Well, I didn’t think I’d have to explain this one, but there’s a lot of comments so far saying I’m an idiot and could have moved the vent down the hood to avoid cutting the brace. You’re 100% right, but that would make for terrible, inefficient vent placement that ultimately wouldn’t work. I can add a brace to the hood (although it does not need it) and thought plenty about it before cutting into the hood. I’ll take some time in the next episode to discuss the vent placement.
@RogueViirus123 жыл бұрын
Airflow matters the most for cooling efficiency, and you really shouldn't need the bracing anymore since you've replaced the heavy material it was bracing with lighter weight and stronger carbon fiber. That bracing was just there to keep the hood shape under it's own weight when lifted/any air flow during operation anyway. Maybe worst case scenario you might need to weld a small brace near the front of the vent where the edges aren't as supported as the back and sides (since a portion of the forces seen by the vent will be appied there). But that's definitely an "address the issue if it becomes one" sort of deal. Doubt it'll cause any real with that much of a lip distributing the force evenly. Great work as always!

Agree with you. An of course you can place anything when and where you want. Is your build and you F**K it when you want. In my opinion you could have sold that perfect hood and make a completly new one in carbon fiber... like you did with the engine. PD: sorry for my english i´m Spaniard.

Honestly upload whenever you want, Add as much info or as little into each episode as you feel necessary. Its clear you not only have a drive and passion for the car but also for the learning and passing that information on to the next person so you run the show how you want, I know myself and others will watch in full regardless. In conclusion... Work on the car and make episodes at a pace/depth that keeps you motivated and keeps the build quality at a standard you like without given into deadlines or upload dates 👍

Pop-up the headlights about 2-4 inches and use a small light bar instead of a 7" round lamp and bucket. Still have them retractable. An LED turn signal can be added to the outer left and right side of each housing. Eliminating the need for fixed turn signals on the side of the front fender or nose. The buckets can lift and retract separately with the turn signals and together with the headlamps, or not.

Funny anecdote about the "trust me I measured it", in machining I always tell students that a good machinist is a paranoid machinist, and the person you should trust the least is yourself. So measure, measure, measure, then measure again, then right it down, then measure again THEN you can think about cutting, then measure again.

I actually tune in for the explanation of the how and why and feel I learn a ton from it...so keep talking. I thought the Tuesday & Thursday upload schedule was aggressive so I think doing what feels like more manageable is a better path. I like the carbon vent not painted on the hood. Ties it with some of the other black trim pieces of the 308. Maybe leave it as the hood is easy to paint on its own later? Also, having project cars of my own I can relate to the “first I have to do this but I can’t do that until I get this” pace of a project. It will get done, don’t lose your passion for it because you are on a timeline...then it becomes work and you will start resenting it...

Hey Mike I LOVE your project... The perfect mix of efficiency and looks. Its your car of course, and I like your style and all, but... If it was my car, i would maybe: Make the scoop "deeper" to be more effective (like you), but also make it more square to match the bodylines. And I think the 288 lights are to bulky, so I would make "lazy/sleepy eyes" (1/4-pop up) and a hidden LED-bar behind the front-grill/mesh. Maybe make the vents behind the headlights more open/efficient (mesh?), but not make more vents behind them. Have you considered that solution? Btw... Talk all you want... Keep explaining and exploring, testing and trying, failing, learn and succeed... Be cause it will be a WIN-WIN for EVERYONE. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰

Looks awesome, I think people are underestimating the strength added once the carbon's bonded to the hood structure. Excited to see it all come together; the fender vents I think would be sick if they started at the backside of the headlight and went in one continuous piece through the top of the fender. Could be designed to be laser cut and made pretty simply similar to the trackspecmotorsports stuff

You and B is For Build are both benefiting from H&R's decision. They were scrambling to complete their R32 body on an R35 chassis project and not having to be ready for SEMA allows them to work at a more reasonable pace.

Just a thought. maybe get some flush mount front marker lights. those 80's chunky ones are going to be a bit of an eyesore on a very slick car. hiding the headlight is defiantly the coolest option, maybe some ultra bright LEDs hidden behind a tented panel. Don't worry about talking to much. I like hearing the whole thought process.
@5thearth3 жыл бұрын
Rounded corners on the vent hole have another advantage: they don't concentrate stress like a sharp internal corner, so the resulting panel will be significantly more durable. Not really a major concern with a nonstructural metal panel, but would be a really big deal with a brittle material like CF.

Oh my god yessssss! I've been waiting for you to do some hood venting. Track cars with vented hoods are hot. (actually cool, but whatever) EDIT while watching: Don't worry so much about the hood vent area looking small. Typically you only need about 1/3 the area of the rad open in the front bumper, so compare the vent similarly. I think you'd be surprised just how little air actually flow through the radiator. The important part is the low pressure behind it with the vent and high pressure in front of it with ducting.

I'm going to be an outlier here. While I love the look of the carbon fiber on the yellow background, it had to have been a pretty pricey bit of bling. Unless it's making up for some of the lost rigidity from the cut brace, the CF doesn't serve any purpose that good old fiberglass wouldn't also accomplish. It reminds me of offices in the late 1970's and early '80's who sent out their reports and correspondence printed on dot matrix printers instead of typewriters to impress people that they had a real in house computer. And, before you start cutting into the CF, and I'm sure you are aware of this but, it bears repeating that the dust can be really hazardous and a good respirator will be in order. I have been milling some CF lately and can attest to its nastiness if proper precautions aren't taken. Keep up the great work; it's just outstanding and very educational for those of us who aren't up on so much of what you're doing.

I don't know why, but that (camel) yellow/white/black (carbon) colour pattern is getting some 80's vibe remix. As for front lights, there is a ton of ideas from Italian car designers. Abarth, Italdesign, Bertone and other wedge car design masters have a lot to offer. My kind of flavors are Lamborghini Countach lower front lights with design of pop-ups, but inverted into car and Abarth S2000 Scorpio concept, but build in bellow the hood, like Knight rider lights.
