In this video I’m using a vintage connie. I’ve never used a Connie before and I have to say I am impressed. I hung the head on a ‪@WhiskeyRiverTradingCo‬ 28c heritage handle. I absolutely love this combo !! These heritage handles look, feel, and perform amazing !!!
This Connie (Connecticut) pattern axe is a true temper kelly works flint edge.
I profiled the head to 20 degrees convex with a very small micro bevel, as you will see if you haven’t watched yet this axe i a chopping machine !! #axe #vintage #connecticut #pennsylvania #pineforest #bucking #heritage #handle

Thanks for watching man !! Hahah very true, it was only a matter of time !! Oh man I’ve been on the hunt for a good deal on one. It doesn’t seem like they’re ever available for “cheap” I may just have to bit the bullet one day and buy one. Everyone raves about them so I have to see what that’s all about !!

Yeah...they're my two favorite patterns...I have a couple of each. My favorite is my Hytest Craftsman I bought 7-8 years ago. It's virtually unused with factory bevel, no rust, Spotted Gum handle and 80% of the original green paint intact! Best part...I paid $35 plus $40 shipping from Australia. In it's condition I'm sure I could get $300 for it here in the states...though I would never want to sell it!

Can’t beat a Connie. Hands down my favorite pattern. One of my favorite axes I own is a Connecticut pattern Emerson and Stevens from a Maine. It’s on a beautifully curved vintage handle I scored it for 10 bucks. It chops it splits it’s the best. Also it was developed from the Dayton. Wide Dayton is essentially what it is. In the Tom Lamond book Southern New England in the Connecticut section it talks about the creation of the Connie axe.

Absolutely, Connie’s are awesome and they look great too !! Oh hell yeah man Emerson and Steve’s are sweet !!! I don’t really have any Maine axes except the on snow and neally wedge, I’d love to eventually find some more Maine brands !! And wow that’s a killer deal 10 bucks good deal 🤙. Heck yeah thank you for the info I really appreciate it, I’ll have to check that out !! Thanks for watching.

I have 20 something Connie’s but the one that gives me the googoos is an Emerson and stevens Connecticut forged in Oakland Maine. The handle is incredible and head is incredible the company is my favorite and I paid $10 bucks for it. It’s just up and down perfect

I have a Collins Legitimus (Connecticut Patter, I live in CT) from my great-grandfather's farm. I also found that when it has a proper edge you don't have to swing hard. Just focus on accuracy and the axe does the rest, the bonus being that it doesn't stick much with just an even swing. Note: unless the tree has a fairly large diameter, I don't tend to stand on it. The boots need some surface area to cleat on to. That handle that you are using is great! I gotta get on for the other Connie handle that broke on me, it was just too old and remarkably well used (as it ought to be, it's a Connie). That was a fun video to watch.

Thank you so much for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed the video !!! Heck yeah that’s awesome, love a Collins legitimus, I don’t have one yet but I always have my eye out !!! Really cool that you have a Connie and live on Connecticut !!! One of my favorite axes was made in Pennsylvania and I live in PA. I totally agree the tree was a bit small to stand on, but I love to test my balance every once in a while I suppose 😂 !! Oh man I love the whiskey river handles they’re great !!! You are correct sir! Haha the ML racer is definitely my favorite! Few people truly understand the feeling you get when you take your dream axe out and get to put it to work! You look really comfortable swinging that Connie. It’s a good fit! The Connie is a good little pattern. Sharpened right, it will handle about anything you put in front of it.

Thank you so much i really appreciate it !!! Heck yeah those are all awesome axes !! I’m not a big Michigan pattern axe lover but I will say they do have their place and I also reserve a Michigan for winter chopping. I’ve heard that’s why they have a rounded toe and heel and rounded pole to prevent chipping in cold weather chopping. I don’t know how true that is but I’ll run with that theory for now lol !! The CT boys axe is an outstanding axe for sure, I use the heck out of mine. It truly is my most used axe !! Thanks for watching and awesome comment 🤙

What do you think the deal was with the wedge coming out? You think it was a one off? Maybe the Linseed Oil contributed? Has that ever happened to you before?
@940joey2
@940joey2 Жыл бұрын
So I don’t glue my wedges, I only use linseed oil as you know. Normally I let the axe sit a few days after hanging it to let the oil be absorbed by the eye wood and dry out. This particular time I went out immediately after hanging it because I was so excited. So I’m thinking because I gave the oil no cure time it was still very slippery and started working it’s way out.
