Nice video you’d made. In fact, we don’t like English using people almost called every our food with dumpling this or dumpling that. The history of “rice dumpling” itself is over 2000 year and it is still very popular that is why you guys should call it “粽子“ more often it deserve been called it’s real name from everyone like “小籠包“。 So I do appreciate your girl friend’d called it “粽子” while she ate it in the park. Keep sharing more nice food video to everyone. 👍

Hi Sabrina , good job for research the story of chungzi ( rice dumpling ). I have been told from my school teacher almost the same story but not fish, is dragon. That how the dragon boat festival came and eating chungzi. your chungzi look amazing. yes many different sty and different ingredients. I make the malaysian sty. Ymmmmm. well done lady, 2 thumps up
@chopsticktravel6 жыл бұрын
Very cool story! What is the malaysian style like?
@jacintawong36396 жыл бұрын
Malaysian sty are packed of many ingredients. we used Chinese dried mushroom, pork , peanuts ( cured ), Chinese sausage, chestnuts, dried shrimp, duck egg yolk, garlic, red onion, salt, white pepper, five spice and sticky rice. we don't use mung bean.Everyone got their own cooking method of making zhongzi. They all delicious because a lot of work for wrapped and cook for 3.5 hrs in a big pot of boiling water. At the end the hard work pay off and it so delicious.

Flying Solo by Sabrina ❤️ it! Question:Did your learn Mandarin or Taiwanese or a little of both? I heard Luke speak some Mandarin in other videos so I was just wondering what you learned.
@chopsticktravel6 жыл бұрын
Hahaha yup, solo food mission! I can speak just enough mandarin to get by, but my listening is a little better than my tones. For Taiwanese, all I know is hello and delicious hahaha!
@不放人不改名6 жыл бұрын
Taiwanese is just called MinnanChinese accent
@sptoo1236 жыл бұрын
Rice dumplings will taste better if you dip some sweet soy sauce or sweet chili sauce. Also there might be some different cooking method of making a rice dumpling in Northern Taiwan and Southern Taiwan. In Southern Taiwan, as your video, people put raw material into bamboo leaf and sink the rice dumpling in hot water for hours to cook, but in Northern Taiwan, people will fried the materials with some ginger and soy sauce to highlight the aroma, also the rice will be cooked and well seasoned before putting into bamboo leaf.
@chopsticktravel6 жыл бұрын
I will definitely have to try some in the north and compare the flavors. I brought some home and added spicy chili sauce which was fantastic!
@sptoo1236 жыл бұрын
Hey, I just found "I'm Jonas" Channel has put a new video which he went to TWO rice dumpling stores in Taipei and both stores have variety kinds of rice dumpling more than just Northern/Southern kind. That may be a good place to go next time you go to Taipei and wanna have some good rice dumpling.
@sptoo1236 жыл бұрын
Also I recommend that you try some Hakka style ban-zong (ban pronounce like Banqiao's Ban, zong is rice dumpling in Chinese). It's quite different from all kind of rice dumpling because its more like salty mochi with lots of Hakka dried radish inside. And don' forget to try some 冰粽 bing-zong. 冰粽 can be found in some bakery and it's kind of sweet dessert version of rice dumpling.
@sptoo1236 жыл бұрын
It's me again, Haha. I wanna tell you that you can come visit Neiwan in Hsinchu and have some 野薑花粽 which is Wild ginger flower rice dumpling. This is a famous local food in Neiwan. Neiwan is famous for fireflies sightseeing. Every year people come to Neiwan between spring and summer for the beautiful fireflies here.

The story I heard was that there was a dragon in a river that demanded the head of a traveller to eat when boats went by the part of the river he was in. A poet? Was going to travel down this river so in order not to be eaten had these super tasty dumplings created so they could be thrown from the boat to the hungry dragon who liked them and would eat them instead of peoples heads. :)
@Theliturgist6 жыл бұрын
My wife's from Kaohsiung and she told me the exact same story about the sticky rice dumplings. Her 81 year old father is racing this year in a dragonboat team there.

Luke Martin RAW Do you guys live in Kaoshiung? If you do, the next time we are there we'd hope to run into you two. We can't visit there very often however but we go to many of the night markets. One we visited we had snake soup and from the stall next over we had eel noodles! Delicious! Plus we've had many of the offerings of street food, too many to mention here.
