I enjoyed this interview!! I have a friend who lives by their community and I must say, when I drive by them they always wave hello. I always try to get on the other side of the road if possible. It is so neat to see how they plow their fields and raise their animals.

What an interesting man! I was surprised to see the printer behind him and lights on in the building. They sound way more normal than I was imagining. Lots of people aspire to ditching cars and being that self-sufficient. Great interview!

Keep in mind, this man is being interviewed at his place of business. If the interview took place in his home, the atmosphere would look much different. They make exceptions for modern conveniences if it helps them in the business place.

Great interview, learned more about the Amish from this one man than other traditional media. Seems the world is leaning their way with less materialism and beginning to try and live off the land, community, etc.

Tom, what an awesome interview with Paul!!! Great questions and very educational. I appreciate your thoughts on the girls. It would be a long shot and a lot of planning but the thought is great. He probably will not see this but if you speak with him again please tell him thank you. I would love to talk to the women about cooking.

There are literally HUNDREDS of amish cookbooks available. In Mio u go to the Country Corners Bulk Food on Kittle Rd. and there are some available. And as long as it's not crazy busy most of the amish women r very open and willing to share opinions on recipies and stuff... also would like to note that u go to any church rummage sale and you'll most likely find amish cookbooks available. Doesn't matter the church sect.

Right, wrong, or otherwise..... The Amish people are fascinating and there are many aspects of their lifestyle that were once traditional American lifestyles, we have just allowed liberalism to invade our lifestyles and open the door to "no limits".

I've visited Amish country in Pennsylvania albeit many years ago. They are very hard working people and though I did not live as Amish, it speaks to my upbringing in the country life and self sufficiency. I'm sure they have their community issues but overall appear to live peaceably. I like Paul's energy. You can always tell when someone is at peace with God.

Very interesting and insightful interview. I really can appreciate the family and community involvement and support . Not moving to far away from each other , to maintain the family and community involvement . Their beliefs on radio, television and news media is very interesting . Thanks for sharing

Excellent interview. Outstanding Gentleman. I imagine being a business owner in the community avails him a more open minded perspective to the rest of the world. However I was pleasantly surprised to hear his willingness, and acceptance to the possibility of bringing people in to see a better lifestyle to the point of even suggestion as to proceeding with such a venture. I believe you may have a nice new perspective to another avenue in future treatment. Their quality in craftmanship ie. woodworking, upkeep of land, property, livestock, and community. (perhaps not baking) would be a good focus for recovery. Busy hands, Busy mind.

Self sustainability.. Here in Lenawee we have some Old Order that moved from Hillsdale Co. They are more reserved than this community where you are interviewing and have no electricity or indoor toilets. Lenawee County Health Department has threatened to Demolish their very well built homes if they do not comply and install septic or use solar. The new homes exceed building codes, also the older ones bought from a local farmer, and they have tested their wells, and use propane.. All from a "complaint from a neighbor". Since this group does not "hire lawyers", and they've broken no laws, the ACLU got wind of this and are representing these folks.. It's made me mad that their constitutional rights could be violated so badly. Our local Amish have amazing produce, and such well made buildings; sheds..etc; as well as other services. Independent entrepreneurs who don't bother anyone and do not bog the system with "issues". And they're getting harassed! These are our neighbors at the edge of town..Hardly anyone knows about this, I've brought it up to neighbors and friends.. they have not heard about it, it's not put in the news or just a brief few articles.. I wonder what this man would think.. In this day and age of "sustainability" I really don't think the masses of sheep even know what that means.
Awesome interview it was very informative you asked him good questions, now you and Daisy need to get a ride in the buggy

Nothing wrong with old fashioned values, but also nothing wrong with using common sense and making the most of resources and opportunities vs. just following a book or "your elders". Freedom is there for a reason, and God is the essence of freedom.

Are there any difference in their beliefs of creation, salvation, & end times? Basically how do they interpret God's Word up there & does any beliefs stand out? Also what do they think of people with epilepsy being baptized?
@MD-ef9fl Жыл бұрын
All believe in six day creation out of nothing; they hold historic Anabaptist view of salvation; and most are amillenial regarding end times. Good question regarding epilepsy. Not sure I could answer that question.

Not true Amish, more like Menenites. In Virginia the Amish use no ELECTRICITY. The Menenites look just like Amish but use some modern technology. Great video Tom....👍🏼
@bridgetteschrock10324 жыл бұрын
The belief system between the Amish and Mennonites are similar. But there are differences. And like all faiths, there are differences within each sect. There are different orders of Amish. Old order, swartzendruber, etc. same with the Mennonite faith. There are conservatives Mennonite and more secular Mennonites. In mio they use battery, generators, solar and natural gas to light and power their homes. They do not use electricity in the sense they they don’t have any connection or draw in power from the power lines.
