Kinda hard to say exactly but he’s definitely combining C minor pentatonic and C major pentatonic. If you play along in C Dorian that will get you most of the way there, but he’s also playing the major 3rd occasionally and also the flat fifth (blues note) which are not technically in the Dorian scale and why I would say it’s major + (mostly) minor penta in C 🤷‍♂️

Well, the John Mayer Trio album which features Chick Corea you're reffering to won't be the one that's coming up. His solo album will be, though. Chances are the Trio album won't even see the light of day... That was recorded early 2014. Furthermore: I really agree with you saying Mayer plays with soul and lets his guitar speak. I find him way more interesting than a lot of jazz player. Not to say I don't enjoy jazz players: Michael Landau and John Scofield are rated highly on my list
