How bout this, layups dunks and any points in the paint are 1 point except putbacks which are worth 2 Add deflections as a stat Add forced pick ups (stopping opponents dribble) Add shot alters (jumpshots) Add those as stats Add a separate category for empty stats (stats accumulated in a game that's already lost i.e down by 18+ in the 4th with 5 minutes left) Add a stat for complexity of a shot (difficult for shots with heavy defensive coverage medium for shots with decent space and easy for wide open or lightly to barely defended shots) If fouled on a shot and it doesn't go in, still count it as a miss.

The allstar game needs to be replaced with the in season tournament championship. Can keep the 3 point contest and dunk contest and some other gimmicks before the tournament championship. The incentive is the trophy, a ring, a mili per player, and automatic home court advantage throughout playoffs if they make it regardless of seating. I guarantee that game will be fantastic. No more allstars. Still get the break during the season. In season tournament needs to be longer and more stretched out. That would give it some real weight behind winning the tournament. I think this is why individuals who grew up in the 80s and 90s enjoyed the NBA at the peak of sports entertainment. Seeing the reactions from the ASG told me that me stopping watching the sport I haven't missed anything. I got bored with the NBA years ago. Used to love that sport. Fans realize that having a condition where you have to have a 65 game minimum or seeing ASG that isn't even competitive is an absolute joke. To fully experience true nature of competition you would need defense in those contests. That's what sells the product. Yet, the corporation only feels they would be satisfied best with offensive showcases. Like the baseball analogy chicks dig the long ball. To me, that doesn't work with basketball. It's a reason why fans like myself who would tune in to games would only be likely the last part of the year with Conference Finals or the Finals. Football, same thing. It's clear it's supposed to be a grandiose display of all of the leagues best. But, without an equal appreciation for the other side of possession, why should anyone care who wins?

The NBA Defensive rules must be updated for todays current game. The current rules makes the game unwatchable. You can't play help defense and you can't sit in the lane with the floor spacing being the most it's ever been. Get rid of the defensive 3 sec rule.

All 3 major sports all star games has gotten progresively worse. MLb all star for long time was considered best of all 3. NBA was close behind and it was great with slam dunk comp in MJ era and all that. The all star game and the season itself with load mgnt and all that is just so bad now. Its crazy. Exhibition games in general have very little place in the modern pro sports landscape. Why would the athletes in question give it their all in a meaningless contest when there's regular season and playoffs to be ready for? None of it passes even a basic risk-reward.

Born in 1987 and started watching the NBA around '91/92, growing up the All Star game was my absolute favorite event of the year, right up there with the Finals, I cherished every year and every game always ranged from 'very good' to 'great'......it's so sad what it has become. It has reached the point where people don't even think the game is intended to be good, or actual competition. I miss the good days when all the guys took it very seriously and acted like their pride was on the line
