Most NBA players go for STATS in the modern days. They care about the title being selected as an All Star or starter in their career statistic. They care no more how the All Star game has been played. Because modern day players understand people/Google will remember their STATS but not the actual game play especially after retirement.

I miss Kobe in these situations. I think Jalen Rose said that in a NBA charity game where everyone was just chilling in the locker room. Kobe walk in and said " I don't know why y'all mfer are laughing, I'm about to bust all ya mfering @ss." He set the tone and it got competitive. In a exhibition game in China, were he was the only NBA player. After not scoring at all in the 1st half. Kobe flip the switch in the 2nd half. He didn't want to disappoint the fans there, and took the second half as a personal challenge to see how much he can score in 15 minutes. Kobe drop 68pts.

What's really happening is that the top guys are setting the tone by playing soft, conservative, and weak in order to conserve energy, and now everyone else is following suit. All it takes is one guy to play hard, but no one is willing to do so.

Great point brother I think if players don't wanna participate barring injuries they should be replaced by other guys on teams who will give us all they got id rather see thanis antekoumbo than this bs he will at least give you maxiumum effort
Replace the All-Star Game with an All-Star tournament. The starters from each conference form two teams, then you get five players from each division to make six more teams, and you play single elim, game 30. This allows for more players to be highlighted and increase the competitive fervor. You also make it mandatory for the other events during the weekend to be filled ONLY with players who made an all-star/rising star team.

I think even what Stephen A. said about it like "at least compete, ofc not on the level of a regular season game" is part of the problem. Where do you draw the line? Either you compete to win or you don't. If you don't, this is the result. There is no in-between. When players have this "I shouldn't go too hard" in the back of their heads, it's done. It's also this "I don't wanna seem like I care, so when I fail, they can't hang it over my head", I think. Cos not knowing keeps the debate going about who is better, who is worse, and if they're worth the money they're getting paid for. If you're all on the same stage and going all in, favourites are going to eventually show. Bad for business?
@ronaldbryant771011 ай бұрын
The truth of the matter is they really don’t play any defense during the regular season games, the NBA players are better shooters and more athletic, but they over all skill level is not really there. They can’t make free throws, play defense, and rebound. We hear a lot of previous NBA players talking about the 80’ and 90’s, they might not have shot three pointers like they do now, but they played the game correctly. They played defense, offense, pass the ball, set picks, etc.

I agree. AND, I'd like to add that, as versatile and athletic that the players are today, the way the game is played is only two dimensions: High screen and roll and launch a three from fifty feet or high screen and roll, dribble a thousand times, beat one defender and dunk. It's silly. I miss the post-game, the medium range jumpers, the fadaways, defense with some contact, big men contesting shots...now guys are spaced out into the stands and defenders aren't allowed to hand-check. I'm like you. We don't need 70-75 bully ball scores and technical fouls every game, but we do need some sort of manliness, defense, and behaving like they aren't spoiled kids.

Not only does this keep the fans engaged and rooting for their favorite dunkers (because they've been watching the episodes from the beginning), but it also builds a tremendous amount of hype.
