One reason is that traditional music development no longer exists. These artists used to get proper training 1. by their labels when signed as youngsters, and 2. by schools or the church before they were signed. So most of these new artists can not SING SING because they weren’t trained. And they also have no stage command for that same reason. There’s also no performance platforms with the decline of awards shows. Artists are coming up from SoundCloud and KZbin and then getting signed from there because they were already popular. The 2000’s had tons of great artists, Usher, Mario, Ginuwine, NeYo, Chris Brown and on and on. But those were all the last of these classicly developed artists. And you have Bieber, Weeknd, and Frank kind of bridging the gap between the generations of artists. Now the labels have primarily pushed hip hop artists as that’s the dominant genre.
@nagarjuna0125 ай бұрын

I understand your point of view Don but you missed a couple of big points The reason why r&b has been down for some time is because by 2008 onwards hip hop over took r&b so much to the point where hip hop infused itself with r&b elements such as artists like drake etc 2nd reason because of hip hop becoming so big and taking r&b elements into their own, r&b had to change from love making to rap/singing or creating dark toxic love artists like Chris brown and early weeknd r&b mixtape days had to pioneered their own respective styles 3rd reason is a lot of r&b artists are not unique enough with a mixture of lyrical savvy enough or couldn’t adapt to the 2010’s artists like august jermiah Alicia keys usher later fell off r kelly later fell off Now in the 2020’s there’s a lot more promise into r&b because hip hop is losing its commercial value due to female rap doing poor and most male rappers are doing poor Apart from the big four. And r&b acts like summer SZA Brent to an extent and newcomers like Tommy richman. Fridayy kali uchis muni long victoria are rising the genre up due to their unique sounds for r&b so in this decade there is more of a chance

Perhaps if he remained on the straight path, he could have helped boosted the up-and-coming singers in the next generation, but he helped paved the way for them being trash because all they had to do was be mediocre, cling to cliche bad industry habits, and make bland music that can't even stick or have a bit of buzz but is tossed aside quickly.

Ngl, I blame Drake and infused music. Im not saying that you have to be in one genre, but these r&b artists want to be rappers, gansta, so bad the aesthetics don't mix. I think Chris Brown actually has so much potential to make good music and great-sounding songs, but they all sound the same. The topic-beat, production, et cetera-is a reflection of his not being able to grow, and it reflects his (no shade) boring life. I think that’s why a lot of his fans say he makes better music when he’s “sober” and in love, but still, it’s not like he doesn’t have the chops to do more. I’ve heard a lot of his creative songs, and they are not bad at all. They don’t have presence because they are boring and do nothing for r&b.

R&B _was_ Pop music in 90’s & 00’s but after the 00’s Pop stopped looking to R&B for inspiration, and started looking to EDM and Hiphop instead. During the EDM wave in the early 10’s commercial R&B collapsed and during Hip-Hop’s reign in the late 10’s commercial R&B became swallowed by trap beats, lost its identity, and became indistinguishable from melodic rap to audiences and the others retreated into alternative singer/songwriter territory after losing the mainstream. The gap in the market for Male R&B and male R&B groups has been filled by the Koreans. Hence why Usher is doing duets singing & dancing with Jungkook. There’s just no-one else to pass the torch to.

My thing is this. Like Chris Brown including many of these artist "r&b" song's are not r&b. They push any black artists music and place them in r&b. Name one black pop artists that wasn't categorized into urban r&b orher than beyonce and Michael Jackson? Chris Brown, Usher, Normani, Victoria monet, and etc have been forced into r&b despite making pop songs. Goggle their name with an award show and see what pops up. Pop/r&b Soul/r&b

Today's, so-called R&b sucks! I always stick to listening to the 80s,90s, and early 2000 R&B. Back then, music had soul and more relatable content, unlike today's music.

As a kpop fan since I was 9 years old and now in my mid 20s, I’m actually tired of them copying the western music. It’s just the same. If I want to listen to R&B I’ll listen to the 90s and 2000s R&B

I (a male singer toying w/ the idea of singing again) have never been so sad at the level of accuracy in this subject matter…I can make the music, but don’t look to make an impact unless you do it outside of music first…pretty much…and be DOPE at creating a vibe/experience….BET!

unpopular opinion but you don’t need to be the best singer to be a good artist. the problem imo is when you aren’t the best singer and are also lacking in creativity, writing, and aura/persona

Good afternoon: I wouldn't say they destroyed R&B. Cuz R&B isn't dead. Personally Male R&B has gotten so weak, phony, deceitful, suck & more. They just lack so much. I honestly think R&B is at a hault. Or stand still & is on a ventilator trying to holds it's own. But it only can last for so long..!! But definitely not dead. I personally don't have 1 fave singer/rapper. I have favorite things that I dislike/like about each of them. Nowadays why these wannabe artists & newbies feel soooo closed in. Like something's gonna happen if they step ouuta their comfort zone..?? Maybe that something is what they need. They should go see Kanye. They seem scared. Newbies or wannabe artists lack- determination, love & ambition. And strength. Just by their music, it shows they don't love & aren't trying to hard enough. If this is the future, then I wonder what the future has in store for us. I was always told it's better to be Uncommon. Maybe I was told wrong. Was I..?? They do need to step it up & really quick. And every minute counts. Early 00's & 90's will always be the best era & no one can change my mind. Great video & Have a great day...!!
