Me and a couple other kids from the area waited for him to come out of his trailer and when he did I said "I know you don't need to hear this from me but keep being creative". And he replied "well its gud ta hea it fruhm you" with that southern Georgia drawl. I'll never forget that moment. Being a skater in Memphis in the 90s in the hoods during the crack era. Going to schools getting jumped, fighting, seeing many of my friends have their lives taken- never fitting in.. I made music, I drew, painted, rapped, tried heavy metal, punk, and all this was in Memphis during the 90s & up.. never truly fitting in.. we used to live in key west, going to school growing up there to my parents divorcing and living in Memphis.. I don’t think ppl can understand how much of a culture shock that was. But, I wish I was strong, and brave, as Andre.. I gave in, I spiraled.. sold dope, went to jail, got shot three different times, smoked, popped pills, soft, and drank.. became a shell of myself.. mannnn now I’m older with kids, a beautiful wife, and still feeling like I never really got to do what I wanted with my life.. but I’m blessed.. daaamn man I’m in fxcking tears, this documentary man this documentary man Oh god.. Andre 3k is the only rapper who can be in the Goat conversation without even having solo rap album, which tells you how talented he is, but his social anxiety, fear of public judgment and writer's block made him retire early and now he justify it by saying he's too old(50) to rap, like the killer mike, nas, el-p, black thought, royce don't exist and do rap at an excellent level.

One of the best documentaries on Dre 3000, and done at a good time given his decision to return on his own terms. Big Boi deserves his own take as well and for being so much of a brother to Dre and never taking the bait from the press or others who would've like him to say something negative about 3 Stacks. Kudos, great content.

Great documentary, my only critique would be to add the lyrics of the example songs you use. It was hard to follow along with some of the lyrics. But that’s it! This was a great watch, and well put together!

I was there, I absolutely loved it!! Wasn't what I expected and loads of people kind of left when they realised it will just be his band and flute, so I managed to slowly get closer to the stage and almost front row. I was genuinely blown away, when I let the "judgement" of 'oh it's just the flute' go, I started to actually immerse myself in the music they were making on the spot and the feelings they were creating and it was one of the most intimate, touching and beautiful live music performances I saw. What him and his band performed was a different type of genious, it was pure raw music that touches the soul with no words, and made me realise what a musical legend he is. They did not just create music, they created a whole wave of vibrations and serenity

I miss Andre as much as everyone else, but I can't help but relate to him and his lyrics. I am simply unable to form meaningful relationships, while being constantly haunted by failed ones, heartbreaks and regrets. That makes me self destruct and just give up on things, suddenly change priorities, stop pursuing goals, while not being able to fully live in the moment, because passage of time is such a blur. A lot of it has to do with ADHD.
@poindextertunes5 ай бұрын
I’m pretty sure thats what Andre had. Let me guess, you have a hard time focusing on a task or a subject unless it really peaks your interest? then you super focus on it and nothing else matters for the time being… Thats what my ADHD is like anyways. Keep chillin man. Running everyday really helped me. Didn’t know I was ADHD until I was 30, finally saw a psychiatrist who diagnosed me, got on the correct medication and I’m now engaged to the most beautiful, smartest woman I’ve ever met and I work at our local comedy club so I’m surrounded by like minds haha 😅

Seeing this allows for more insight on why he is the way he is. Me being younger I never really put the expressions together. But I've always respected him even when he said he was done with music I understood back then and even more now. You have to listen to your soul and sometimes the melody changes in your life.

Andre was asked to play the character of Jimi Hendrix in a film shot in Ireland. I had the incredible job of movement coach for Andre We spentdays together rehearsing the vibe, mannerisms and stage presence of Hendrix. Andre was such a gentleman, charismatic, charming and he rocked those Jimi colourful flamboyant bell bottoms and suede jackets like no other!! thinking Hendrix would have been very glad that it was Andre 3k who was chosen to play him in a movie......he totally nailed it! 🤟🍀

Imagine a world where Outcast never happened. Oh man, that would be a HUGE piece missing from the very soul of human expression. Andre, I was a teen in the 90's, and your music meant SO much to me. Thank God you brought the music and expression to the world like you did. If you have times when you feel inauthentic, times where the music feels fake, or like you've spent all the good rhymes, lyrics, or ideas you'll ever make, just lock it down to the present. It's how you feel now, and that's that. It can change in an instant, so don't let it be more than that. Don't think of the past or the future when you feel like this, just lock it down to now and know that it could change in an instant. Godspeed, brothah man.

I'll never forget the infamous 95 Source Awards. I was just about to turn 16. Andre 3000 said with his southern swagg "The South got something to say" Back then it was foreign to me. Being an Indiana Native...The South??? Boy did they prove the East/West Coast wrg...cuz They indeed had MORE than something to say. When u started this video out with THAT Timeline, I knew it was gonna be DOPE.

I’m from KC,MO graduated in ‘04 and all we listened to was southern rap(ATL,Memphis,Louisiana), the bay area(mac dre/E40) and local rappers who would usually try to imitate one of those styles. Its weird tho bcuz back then local rappers weren’t really getting the love they should have from KC. A lot of jealousy. I think KC had an inferiority complex back then as far as rap goes. the rest of the rap scene just considered us country. then Nelly dropped which was cool but he didn’t sound anything like the gang shxt coming outta KC. Tech N9ne’s early stuff was very good, super dark but then he linked up with travis and focused on syphoning the hardcore underground fanbase from ICPs juggalo crowd. Anghellic was the last underground sounding album he did before going semi-pop. Now they’re the highest grossing underground label
