Of course, you're right. And to make it even better than you describe....this was at the famed FOX Theatre! It's a beautiful, opulent theatre; as if stuck in another time. I once drove from Des Moines, Iowa to The FOX in Detroit, to see the White Stripes. The place is truly beautiful and intimate. And the acoustics are some of the finest-engineered of any venue in the business. There truly isn't a bad seat in the house. I treasure this show. Of course, with today's news of "fresh track marks", etc...yeah, our guy is for real. He meant every word he said. True fans knew this innately. That kind of real darkness cannot be faked. That's why he never felt fake. At all. Ever. He always came across completely for real; the realest motherfucker in the room.

Depression is very confusing, and it makes you want to kill yourself. You think about it hundreds of times a day! I know because I am clinically depressed with PTSD and panic disorder. I'm not sure what it's from either, I've been in multiple serious car accidents. But I know exactly what it's like but this case has some extenuating circumstances that don't add up the guy who found him changed his story and waited to call 911 until after he called Chris's wife, that doesn't add up. Even the police report said the scene looked like he couldn't have put the exercise strap over the door and closed it by himself. I'm not saying I think he was "suicided," but his wife 2 weeks prior to his death donated 400k to a fund for missing and exploited children. That's 3 suspicious things associated with his death. There's even more like the autopsy that in itself is a story all on its own. Benzos make you feel good, but if you take them for a long time, they start to make you feel even more depressed and suicidal. Either way, "get off my wave" Rock in Peace Brother, you changed my life. I can't wait to jam with you in the " great big gig in the sky."

I think he was drugged. He is struggling to play and sing. He did not kill himself. He was a devout Christian and a family man and he was snuffed out like a bright candle. He left a superb legacy and his song The Promise is exceptional. Gone too soon. He knew the truth of a dark and sinister organisation that to this day still operates as a family restaurant. He is missed. 😢

He was the G.O.A.T. His voice sounds like a new element, a form of massive energy, he could still hit notes from 30 years ago, volume, expansion, range and techniques. Cornell was unbeatable as a vocalist, not even Plant or Mercury could have mastered his voice so well. God of music.

he was unbeatable, but he wasn't in his best here, not even close.. he seems tired, under the influence of something.. like humming in your home, but you cant hit high notes due to the neighbours.. he wasn't well and Soundgarden songs are nothing short of stressful to your voice... but no one kills himself after asking for a laptop assistance... I wonder what that last call for his wife contained..

I'll be honest. I cannot bring myself to watch one second of his last performance (including this video clip). I can't even believe he is no longer with us. The sadness I feel at times when I think about it is completely unnatural for someone I've never known...But after 30 years of listening to his lyrics literally thousands of times, my soul is connected to his and that is his gift to all of us. Sometimes when I speak to people about Chris Cornell who don't really know his music and the impact he had on so many people, I feel sad for them. Too busy listening to crap like Bruno Mars and Miley Cyrus and missing out on life-altering music. It's truly sad.

I'm 43 and there are actually some millennials ive actually come across who actually don't just listen to whats current and they do their homework and dig into music history . And I am always very impressed . I cant get Chris out of my head since he passed away. Not one day has gone by that I don't think of him .makes no sense but it actually does because he was brilliant in his craft that he did touch our hearts through his music. All musicians should be able to .That's really their job. And he never lied in his music. He sang about his life that most people wouldn't dare tell other people. Ive been to hell on earth mentally. Some of his songs sing to me. And I play them over and over. Sorry just in a babbling mood on here tonight. And so I am still trying to get over his death and when I read the news about Chester Bennington and how close he was to Chris so much so that he was one of Chris' children's godfather . Ever since David Bowie died we have lost too many more in the music industry. Way too much loss. Ive lost a big part of my childhood.

Edward Rossiello Edward Rossiello if you still haven’t listened to it, I wouldn’t recommend it, because seeing the shape he is in during this show is almost as heartbreaking as what happened after it was over. And the fact that so many witnessed the condition he was in, yet he ended up in that hotel room alone, absolutely rips my heart out bc it ALMOST makes it easy to understand why the night ended so tragically.

I was too young to be a Nirvana fan when Kurt died, but this one fucking rocked me. I knew this gig was happening cos I saw Chris had posted about it on Twitter. Later that night I was told by a colleague that Chris Cornell was dead. I work in news, and was working in New Zealand at the time, so we were seeing some unconfirmed reports before we reported it. I couldn't be a part of it, and I just didn't believe it. How does someone go from eagerly posting about a massive gig they're playing to killing themselves? I walked home around 10.30pm that night, and I've had many sad walks home in my time, but that was the worst. I was just numb, and I felt like the world was off-balance. It's taken me until now to watch this...

Lucky for us he still lives on in his music that I listen to every day obsessively. Lately my looping playlist has been No Such Thing, Ghosts, Poison Eye, Scar on the Sky, and Silence the Voices. This playlist has carried me through many tough times, and joyful times, and the balance and depth of his music seems to accommodate any moment. CC is immortal and he makes us feel immortal when we listen to his music. His depth is astounding.

Funny thing about rock stars: even when they are blatantly depressed, noboby will care enough to offer him some help. They just want the 'show to go on', whatever it may cost. They just want the 'thrill of it' and to listen to them classics one more time. How many people looked at the man on that stage and thought to themselves: "He's not okay"? Now, I admit that this was a nice way of saying goodbye, albeit heart-wrenching.

Honest to God he was transitioning into quality folk music seamlessly. He was a extremely great lyricist who could of written in every decade. Cornell had a greater ability than most of his pairs especially in his writing. It's isolating when you are a go above a beyond personality who clearly comes to a crossroad and sees the lack of reciprocation.Suicide has layers it is never one thing but Job always is at the top of its list. Fatigue is another big one. This includes nutrient defiencies, lack of sleep. Then there are issues with facing past trauma and lack of cohesion with the ones you love. What was the bean that spilled the pot that night? Who knows? Probably all of them. Cornell, Prince, Robin Williams and Anthony Bourdain. They all blew my mind because of how much they could see of the world. I just have to believe they were really tired. Good shepherds who truly needed the rest. God rest their souls.

We have seen Chris and Sound Garden about 30 times over the last 30 yrs. Ive seen him in multi states. Even Carnagie Hall in NYC which I dont think he liked too much. He said they put notes on the tables and piano about putting a glass and leaving a ring. He didnt like that. We recently went to his grave in Hollywood, which made us feel better. But this video shows me there is something going on here. He looks so High ! Im watching the way he moves and his face . He looks sloppy but he is pulling it off. He could probably do this in his sleep ! It looks to me he is not in a good way here and I wish SOMEONE did something , if they could . This is so sad .

All you have to do is go watch other performances, and you can tell, he was not right here. His voice was always spot on, and beautiful, he is screetchy and unfocused throughout this whole performance. He is just not acting like his usual self. I even feel like when they hone in on the rest of the band, that they KNOW he is off, just watch their faces. 3 yrs later, and Im still not able to process this loss.

God I hate all the conspiracy surrounding his death. “He was acting different, something wasn’t right” you don’t fucking say? He probably knew this would be his last show. He had spent his whole goddamn life talking about his depression-Day I Tried to Live, Outshined, Blow Up The Outside World-but never ended up getting the help he needed. Then he goes and kills himself and no, it can’t be because of his depression, it must have been murder. Be ashamed of yourselves.

My angle on this is, that he wasnt spot on as usual, but much more in tune emotionally than ever, as tho he knew exactly what he was going to do that night and that he wanted his last show to be full of energy, its not as fluent as all of his other performances, most probably cause he was high off of benzos, but it still strikes me deep into my core watching this live performance

It is still painful for me to listen to Chris Cornell, or Prince for that matter, since their deaths. Both still hard to believe. This is the first time I have seen any of this footage and it is profoundly sad. This is a man who was suffering. You can see it in his eyes, hear it in his voice, and it’s clear in his body language as well. You can see how terribly he was struggling just to get through this. And I think back now to how many comments I read when this first happened of people who said nothing seemed off and he seemed fine at the show. Obviously that was not the case. Tragedy is a very big word to be applied to one person, but to me this was an absolute tragedy. How sad.

You think he's acting like this because he was depressed? This show is not like any of the others they did immediately before it. Chris is either drunk as hell here, which I doubt or he is drugged. Leaning on the Mike, slurring speech, out of time. Even during bad shows, he never did that like here. Someone in the band should have said something.

I saw Soundgarden live six or seven times. First time in '92 or so, opening for, and completely annihilating, Guns n' Roses. Saw them a few years later at Lollapalooza and it was much like this Detroit show. Chris was drunk, obviously not wanting to be there. Hung up his guitar midway during the show, complaining of technical issues. Saw him again in Sweden during the accoustic tour and it was fire; complete beauty and raw passion. Saw SG again in 2012 and he rocked the house as usual. But if I were to have seen this show I would have realized something was very, very wrong. He wasn't even this bad when he was drunk at Lollapalooza.

@Marvin Harrision Smith , I agree with you on most of your post. Except for the portion where you say he is drunk. There could be many factors as to why he was clearly not in his true form. Which, he wasn't. I have watched this and other videos of his last performance and I can honestly say that something else was bad here. There were things being said right after his death that there was a head wound. So, this morning, I watched this and I jotted down 18 frames of there possibly being truth to those claims. Although I never saw an actual incision or blood, I did see obvious frames of intense hair matting, hair standing straight up in the same area. I cut my head open as a kid, so I know first hand that head wounds make the hair part, matted and the blood acts as a glue(for lack of a better word) as it dries. There were many examples of this, as noted. I only watched this through 43:51. Head wounds (as most people know) make you dizzy, lethargic, tired etc.... Could it perhaps be from this? We will never know. RIP Chris :(

it was barbiturates which accumulate in the body and are notorious for provoking or aggravating depression. when I saw some years earlier in Luxembourg in 2014, there already was a similiar sound: they rarely were tight, and Chris didn‘t really seem to belong to the music at all. so the problem might have been there for quite some time.

Compared to his other concerts his energy level is much lower. I only wish he would have told someone the way and what he was feeling. I don't know but maybe it would have made a difference in how thing's turned out after this concert. Miss you Chris.

I think Chris destroyed his voice during this show. I think what happened did because of that. The amount of straining he did to perform these songs, particularly the old ones, could very well have blown his vocalcords. By all accounts and what his wife said, he was rambling about having done so because and speaking about bad in-ear audio from the gig... I can't imagine the amount of dispaire he could have felt, a famous musician hurting his singing voice again... His last album was very indicative of a changed approach in singing out of necessity. I absolutely love A Higher Truth, but the album is tinged with a sorrow that his worn voice absolutely brought to life... Even years on, I haven't accepted the way you left us. You gave all of your grace in living and spared none upon yourself. Thank you so much for everything you gave.

Well, I'm glad someone in the comments can see/hear the shredded vocal chords. I sang metal before sg was popular and had so many issues with my voice. It was so scary. I couldn't speak during the day mostly but was able to somehow get it out at night. 3 45 min sets were grueling. Can't imagine being as famous as him and struggling to carry on with his tour with damaged chords, again, as you said. And for cc, this, and feeling unloved by the one he loved the most - what happened doesn't seem so hard to believe now...
