Chris Cornell describes his feelings at his friend Layne Staley's funeral.
In this video i look at the sad passing of Layne Staley and his friend Chris Cornell and how he felt at Layne's funeral. I also talk about an old story Cornell had shared online some time ago about a meeting he and Layne once had.

@@reemclaughlin4260 yer preachin to the choir bro. After Anthony Bourdains "fishy" conspiratorial death, I've come to look at his and CC's in new light. Personally, I'd LIKE to believe that if A.B did off himself, something that seemed so unlike him, but when weighing in he had recently traveled to Africa and was administered hardcore malaria drugs THAT HAVE A POWERFUL MEDICINAL INTERACTION WITH ALCOHOL, known to amplify the depressant factors of drinking when mixed with booze, was also purportedly said to even temporarily (markedly) change ones personality. With a history of relationship problems out in the open, coupled with a turbulent film crew which seems to have been fractured upon the upheaval or ousting of some mainstay assistant directors +/or producers, seemingly for the most nepotistic reasons by instating his activist/auteur/filmmaker/actress/girlfriend in their place without warning (and without, it's been said, the proper experience producing episodic documentaries for television. I.e. rising tensions amidst a tight-knit crew who all grew close like friends, at least those who remained- NOW with shattered trust, after the disintegrating stability of decades-long working relationships... ) Could also all be exacerbated by rumors of unpaid loans to some VERY powerful, prominent lenders. Another tight-knit... Shall we say 'family' of investors, known to have control and a historically firm grip on riverfront property in the city of new york. That of which, when all rumors are set aside, did remain true that Bourdain HAD heavily invested in a new venture of a combination market and restaurant contained within an upscale mall in development along the Chelsea piers waterfront, albeit with a wide and wild estimation of figures, but undoubtedly reaching into high millions.... Now possible problematic projections doubled or however much more increase of said substantial amount to make an already nervous drunk even more anxious and depressed!? Seems plausible to me THAT someone in those (I'm very mind this is all that was it public, how many high-profile individuals do we know of that have their dirty laundry kept out of the limelight from family secrets to shame afflictions and addictions and poor choices that business deals and shady politics oh my!) Circumstances might consider offing oneself by hanging themselves from the neck until dead! That all being said and taken into consideration, and what I'm about to say now I've never seen in a documentary which is to say something about his wife strikes me is counterfeit and shady and it makes my skin crawl on I can't bear to listen to her or watch her speak about him. And she seemed to be behind or at least featured in the most masterminded efforts to criminalize the pharmaceutical industry for his untimely demise. Though I do remember TMZ reporting originally that as he exited the hotel in a body bag there were track marks in his arms! Something I'd never seen or heard again, though to be fair I never actively looked for it, except after I repeated it and then went to TMZ to link and call it up for a friend only to find that it was possibly retracted as all prior reports indicating such had been scrubbed or deleted. and the statement from his bodyguard insisting he had given him more Ativan and he wanted to and that he knew something was off Also led me to believe foul Play and a cover-up was afoot Even Kim in the band said that Chris who is normally a notably a very precise performer and singer, I too, personally, had seen Soundgarden perform live recently on that tour... And having watched that very last performance on KZbin not only was I able to see a large chunk of his hair missing from the side of his head and a very unusual spot almost as if someone had grabbed it and ripped it out in a struggle or altercation- But also the fact that they said Chris Cornell either hadn't shown for soundtrack or that if he did he was late or that he was very late too or that he showed up late to the show but something about his behavior being delinquent was very out of character for him again trying to seemingly paint a picture that he could have been using Which again would be precisely what conspiratorial agent would need to produce a successful cover-up story. Why would such a fucking talented, sound, sober person abandon their love and lives of their family!? Especially when taking into consideration that he had his (eleven even???) twelve or thirteen-year-old daughter too at the Time... The real is singing was off perhaps he was drugged or drunk or overcompensating I'm not saying that someone injected him I'm just saying I don't know and there's so many discrepancies cuz fishy statements from band members and staff and his wife... And something that I had seen on TMZ with my own two eyes only to be removed later... Not so much as even being announced as having misled us or having been retracted... And the crusade his wife went on trying to sue pharmaceutical companies with the statements that as bodyguard or security had administered extra Ativan to him at all just sounds like a massive cover-up to me That with the cringe-inducing skin crawling appearance of my apprehension towards his wife... Something I can't explain Though I do consider myself an empath and have very strong feelings about certain individuals and I do feel a very gut-wrenching visceral reaction whenever I see her or hear her speak. Again I don't know her to tell you that I know she's lying and I cannot pinpoint it or put my finger down on what or why is so but it is so that I have a very knee jerk reaction to dislike this woman. Something very unlike me, I never even claim to hate my enemies is hate is a very strong word and I do believe not to hold an iota of hate in my heart Lastly, taking everything I've said already about Anthony Bourdain and Chris Cornell, two very different individuals with different family situations and different circumstantial evidence leading to that of their independently suspicious "suicide" deaths It just brings me back to the question of motivation who was to gain the most And I hate to say it but I do wonder what kind of life insurance policy if any, were issued to those closest to Bourdain, and also including, most obviously, Cornell's spouse . Again. Hate to say it Seems like I'm pointing the finger and I swear I'm not pointing any fingers but how can one say such a thing ..... without... Pointing... 💩 Any M.... M...... Fingers 👆 💩 💉 🦟 🍷 🍻 🥃💊

No one to cry to lyric hits hard after hearing this. So heartbreaking that not one friend comforted him as he was sobbing at Andrew's funeral. Then it took almost 2 weeks for anyone to notice he had died.. I think it was his accountant that noticed no banking activity. Rest in peace, I hope Layne knows how much he was loved by his fans ❤

There has been so many senseless loss which most you can contribute to mental health issues and addiction although we've lost legends like Dimebag and Lennon senselessly as well but by madmen just as Skynard and Coby died in accidents. My point I guess is that the madmen holding the guns suffered from some kind of mental incapacity that escapes human understanding . To me death comes to us all, some have a chance to say goodbye, for example people with cancer. 😢However the pain it's just as deep as if they overdosed , committed suicide, victims of violence or flying into a mountain. The one thing that does bother me is the signs that are all around, and all the warnings falling on deaf ears. THAT IS WHAT angers me. Even I a person many moons from their existence can hear the pain in the lyrics, or see the pain when they perform . Too many yes men and too many people afraid to confront whatever particular person because they fear being thrown out of the rich man's club. It sounds crazy but it must be a lonely existence at the top. R.I.P to all you stars for you shall always shine on.

I turn 60 on Monday. I've been on and off drugs since i was 13. I ruined a good portion of my life, alienated family and friends, and generally made a complete ass of myself. Two marriages, two divorces, multiple children..... nothing or nobody could change me. I've been clean for two years and I've tried everything to make a comeback and make it right with the people I hurt. Its too late. People dont forget things so easily. Im pretty much alone now and miserable. It sucks to be an addict, but it's almost as bad to be a recovering addict. If youre struggling with addiction, you have to reach out for help. Nobody except for you can make that choice. Do it before it's too late.

I know im a stranger but Im proud of you for 2 years clean. Dont give up - sometimes people come around when they see that the person trying to make things right is continuing to stay clean - but dont exhaust yourself trying either. Focus on the current day and being the best version of yourself. Find small things that bring you joy. You survived a rough road and every night you should feel proud for making it another day. I totally get the wanting to make it right and not feeling like you can. I am in the midst of battling an addiction (though since it in not as well known or illegal I have a hard time finding support that believes its a problem). Hearing about people who have experienced long term addiciton gives me hope.

Hey brother - that “what’s the use” feeling, the sinking feeling that it’s all a foregone conclusion anyway & that your life has been a waste, is so much more common in early recovery than a lot of us are willing to admit. And it’s also worth noting that “early” recovery can last a long time, sometimes on a time scale of years if you’ve got a few decades of using under your belt. After enough time spent chasing our drugs of choice, the stark lack of color that’s left once we decide it’s time to stop living in the chaos can seem more unbearable than the hell we repeatedly put ourselves & our loved ones through. But it doesn’t hang around forever, & your perseverance will be rewarded in ways that our brains literally aren’t wired to comprehend when put through the first shockwaves of sobriety . It’s never too late, especially not if you’re making the change for your own sake & not for anyone else’s joy but your own. Peace be with you my friend.

That image of Lane, broken down, screaming, crying, frightened, I knew that was something in him before I even saw this video. That was the feeling I hear from him every time he gets to the last line of "Would" IF - I - WOULD - COULD - YOU? That howling growl of a question hanging in the ether...Chills every time I hear it. Knowing that he's singing it on reflection of both Woods' overdose and his own crippling addiction shakes me. Then you put the lyric in the light of how Lane too would die in an overdose, and it is just a wrecking ball to the soul.

Now that I am older, I guess it was a good thing that didn't happen, because if I had the mega dollars of a rock star, I am sure there would be no good outcome because of the way I liked to party. He had purposely secluded himself for several years, starting after Demri passed away in 1996; that's why nobody noticed he was gone for so long (and it was actually his accountant who noticed that something was wrong, because he hadn't withdrawn any money from his account for a few weeks). He wasn't even in contact with his own family anymore. Apparently, some of his band-mates used to go to his house and just knock on the door repeatedly, but he never answered. I believe that Mike was the last one to see him alive, and he begged him not to leave. Mike felt so guilty for leaving that he, too, later passed away from something similar. 😢

These guys were tapping into that magical place inside us that pours out when you're walking along that edge of life and death. It couldnt have been any other way , otherwise it would be. The best poetry comes from the heart that needs to find a reason to stay here. To a large extent they were exploited by a music machine that sought to get rich off their brilliance, but those who found resonance in their words and music know their gift was not in currency.

I'm not sure how I feel anymore. I mourned these guys for many years. And not just Chris and Layne, but I mourned many of the Seattle greats. I grew up listening to, and watching these bands as far back as I can remember, so when one of them left this world, it was not easy. Chris and I would be the same age right now and I kind of feel guilty about moving on with my life. It is hard to see your musical heroes go away with little to no explanation, but it's worse having to reconcile it years later. That's all I gotta say.

I hear ya brother. It was the greatest group of bands to ever come out at one time and we were lucky to have been in the middle of it. Truly changing the landscape of music and they would all still be as popular now as they were back then. I was so lucky to see them all live. Unbelievable shows. To quote Layne, "My Pain, is Self Chosen!". You can't feel guilty when people choose their own paths. Just enjoy what they gave us and make the most of your life!

@@edwardmorrell1732 Well said, my man. And I completely agree, these era of music gave us some of the greatest bands of all time! And yes, these guys all changed music as we knew it. This truly was the best for music in the history of music. It's ironic, I have "My Pain is Self Chosen" tattooed on the inside of my left arm. It's funny that you chose that particular line. But, I also have "Stay Long Enough to Repay All Those Who Caused Strife" on my right arm, so I guess it was a 50/50 shot! Either way, as a song writer and musician myself, these lyrics always cut deep for me. I don't know how you feel about it, but whenever we lost one of these great musicians, it always took something out of me and I retired that band. This is why I am one of those people who believe that no mater how great William Duvall is, the band that we have today is not Alice in Chains. A band can replace a drummer or a bassist and move on, but an iconic front man could never be replaced. In many ways, I also think it's unfair to have a new talent live in the shadow of another person for their entire career. I feel badly for guys like William Duvall and even Zak Wylder, who wasn't a front man, but he replaced an icon in Dimebag. Nirvana knew this fact and I've always had a lot of respect for the remaining members when they chose not to move on without Kurt. Anyone else who stood where Kurt once stood would not have been Nirvana. Mother Love Bone also knew this and they spawned several great bands after Andrew Wood died. I really think that Jerry Cantrell should have followed Nirvana's lead. They could have kept going, but just with a different name. I still love AIC, and their new music is great, but for me, it's just another band entirely. Thanks for the exchange, my friend and sorry for the long musical rant.

Everyone is an empath (psychic). That is why some people go crazy and become narcissistic, which leads to sociopathy, which leads to psychopathy. No one has perfect thoughts. We all contribute to drama and bullshit. When people understand that empath VS psychopath is absolutely meaningless, then people will lighten up (be more real). All human beings are emotionally sensitive. Some people actually do care about feelings more (mental connections) than others, but there are understandable reasons as to why people snap and go crazy. Everyone judges each other for what they look like. Some people grew up in abusive, bully families. They evolved as bullies for generations. They get judged for looking that way immediately, because the mind never lies. Some people think they are better looking, all that, and have a better vibe because of it. No one really has a better vibe by thinking that way. A person can only stay out of drama, anger, and hate, and then it happens by default. Mellow people are less critical. They don’t see things in terms of “empath” VS “psychopath”. They see things in terms of “psychopath” VS “real”. There’s difference. People labeled empaths are often “more psychic”, “indigo”, and snooty. The entire idea is shallow. We are all telepathic. Some of us are violent. Others refuse to be. That’s really the difference: non-violence VS violence in a personality.
@OOBEJuanKenobi
@OOBEJuanKenobi Жыл бұрын
If people portray themselves as more psychic socially, other people see them as stuck up. No one gets around that one. Telepathy is difficult to face for all of us. It’s profound that it’s real. No one can really handle it well. We can only just be non-violent and as honest as possible.

If someone ever needs love or shows you deep love DO NOT be afraid to return it then and there. I was with my mom visiting my grandfather - her dad - a thousand miles from my home because he was undergoing cancer treatments. I didn't even see him much because of the treatments and him needing rest. It was time for us to go home and I picked up our baggage to leave when he came to me and gave me a hug. A very strong hug. He was not a hugger. I realized he was saying goodbye. I was a little caught off guard, and I thought I would see him again even if he got worse. I didn't put down my bags to return the love he was showing me. I never got another chance and it hurts very badly whenever I think about it 35 years later. I feel like a POS. He loved me very much and was like a father, though I didn't see him that often. Tears are streaming as I write this. The regret and sorrow will never go away.

❤My husband sent me a text that I didn't get because I was doing my nails, and then forgot to check. Two hours later, a sheriff deputy shows up to tell me my husband was killed in a car accident 500 miles away. The text message, that I didn't see until later, said "I don't think I will make it there alive. The power steering went out - please. please pray for me." My husband's tire blew out minutes later, sending him across the median, across two lanes of oncoming traffic, then he hit a culvert and rolled once. This occurred when he was going 95 miles per hour. His face was crushed between 2500 lbs of weight behind him and the steering wheel in front of him. He live another 20 minutes, while they used the Jaws of Life cut him out. He died as they removed him from the vehicle. This happened on a lonely stretch of road in White Lake, South Dakota. His text message is included in the fatality report.

Very nice video. With intense love for someone you have intense grief. It's crazy how sometime the anger comes out enexpectedly. When my husband died suddenly from a massive heart attack, my 2 sons and I were getting ready to go to plan for his funeral. I was in the shower, in shock and trying to process it all. Suddenly I was screaming at him at the top of my lungs and beating the shower walls with my fist! I was SO mad at him for leaving me and our 2 sons! He refused to go to a doctor and neglected his health. We did all we could to try and convince him. But, God was ready for him and I felt ashamed at my reaction, but know that it is normal for some. I felt relieved to at least get the anger out of my system and try to move on.😢Grief is a form of love and it never ends, but softens through time. We have to go through it to get through it.

I don't think I'd have known either what to say to Layne if I was Chris. From experience, many of my (male) friends and I struggle to put into words how we are feeling, especially in front of other men. I never learnt it from my dad, and I doubt my friends did either. I only learnt emotional 'fluency' from my wife. I'm sure some men can and do talk about their feelings with each other, but not many I've met. It's always been 'gay', to use the vernacular of the time (which is a discussion unt in itself). Good luck, men. We can do it. 💪🏻

Btw, the way I'm interpreting this is: Layne was so upset on Andrew's death, but he didn't have to emotional capacity nor language to reach out to anyone to help him, nor was anyone there to help him. And they are now all gone. How that even possible? Wood, Cobain, Staley, and then Cornell, gone and taking grunge with them. Such amazing talents, and seemingly good people too, taken so young. The days rock n roll truly died.

🤘😎🤘 So sad.. Wood, layne, cornell.. They all had demons that overcame them, wish there was something someone would or could have done for each one of them to escape their own personal hells. I hope they all are at rest now. 😢
