I have been playing drums for 29 yrs, and this has motivated me to stop playing for a while and look for something deeper in the music, his approach is so fresh

I was blessed to play with Chris with Kathy Taylor and with some of the guys from his high school HSPVA in Houston...he's obviously grown and developed but make no mistake, he was that intense and technically astute as a junior and senior in HS. He's also got a really funny sense of humor. Keep going deeper, CD!

I'll remember that! I've never thought that Dave's style could be categorized in this way, but it makes sense. He's fun to listen to.

To Know Chris's amazing play was Robert Glasper came to Japan Osaka about 3years ago before getting Gramy Award. As well, I had experience N'degeocello playing Osaka 3years ago, too. This is unbelibable tune for me because the most rediculas bassiss & drummer than any other musicians played together!! It's amazing!!

No - Dave says he was influenced by Tony Williams, and spanky has more of a gospel thing, but it's not just a gospel thing... if that makes sense. This video is really great man... it's been a while since I've heard it!

I wouldn't say that I am looking to improve. My days of gigging and recording are done, I just play for my personal enjoyment. I am just realizing that being a gigging musician I put myself into a box and remained purely a pocket player, and never ventured far out of it. Made me a lot of money. But now, I am looking for something deeper, studying a lot of drummers, and listening for a while, that's all
@holygroove215 жыл бұрын
You know, I don't know who Spanky's influences would be. The "styles" you refer to are a complex interweaving of jazz, neo-soul, hip hop, and gospel. It's an urban-gritty thing that's very difficult to pin down... I kinda like that it's hard to describe.

@ChrisJefferiesMusic I believe picasso said "good artists imitate, great artists steal." Its not like spanky and chris dave are the first drummers to mess with time. Check out Bill Bruford, Tony Williams, Max Roach... to name a few
