I actually wrote a musical based around this song. While Patricia is the main character, much of the story centres around a newspaper vendor called Simon, who has a troublesome brother called Dennis and a sister named Maude. Simon goes out with a woman named Patricia and it turns out that he knows Patricia is a burlesque queen. The story is set in 1924 and is set in either London, Dublin, Paris or Berlin, depending on which way the viewer sees it.

I was a preteen at boarding school in South Africa when this song was all the rage... I had NO IDEA what a stripper was then, but loved de Burghs voice and enthusiasm. This song, the Spanish Train, and Pink Floyd's We Don't Need No Education were banned here, but we still got to hear them and sing them when teachers weren't around...

David Breden Lady in Red was written when he was living in Gozo Our Sister Island, Our Flag is red and White, the song is dedicated to all Maltese and Gozitan Girls.... we simply love wearing Red !

This song's a great idea, but it doesn't quite get there. It would have worked better with a more defined construction at each chorus, it fails to rise when it should, resulting in two lines on the same notes / melody, and loses the chance of greater impact. I long realised it can be adapted to achieve this though.
