When I was a high school student (almost 40 years ago), I bought his album “crusaders“ and fell in love with it immediately! It was amazingly incredible that a high school student from Taiwan, Republic of China, so far away from Argentina, could have the chance to meet and love his great music. I tried to memorize the lyrics of every song in this album and kept singing “crusaders” at school and home. He is a mentor of music for me. He is the one who showed me how much a song can tell and teach! He should be remembered for “crusader”, I prefer.

„Lady in Red“ is a song I don‘t like… Chris de Burgh definetely has so many great songs worth playing on radio „The Revolution Trilogy“ is only one of them… „The Leader-Trilogy“ is also just epic
@mattjday19802 жыл бұрын
Way more songs better than Lady in Red, this for example, an on albums like Man on the Line, The Getaway, Flying Colours, man the list is endless 👌

The Getaway is one of my favourite albums. Chris has a real skill for storytelling, through his music. The instrumental section at the end always give me goosebumps! Phenomenal performance.

In 1983 I lived in Regina, Saskatchewan Canada and I went with my best friends to this concert tour at the Centre of the Arts. I had just gone through a wretched break-up with my girlfriend and was feeling horrid. I I was totally enthralled with Chris de Burgh's music. During high school, the librarian had purchased "Spanish Train and Other Stories", which was my introduction to his music. I have been an avid fan ever since. Cheers from Canada.

Ever since I heard Spanish Train for the first time and heard him in the flesh at a small gig in Edinburgh, I have likened Chris to one of the old troubadors telling wonderful tales. My favourite has remained The House with Satin Green Shutters, but I just love them all!

If this trilogy of songs doesn't strike an emotional chord......you don't have a pulse and should be 6 feet under. He creates the broad wage emotions......anticipation.....excitement....sadness...... wistful reflection. 9 minutes of intelligent, beautiful music. As he said...he wrote a song writer's version of a movie.

Wake up boys, there's a light at the window, I can hear someone knocking on the door, There are voices in the street, And the sound of running feet, And they whisper the word - "Revolution!" There are men coming down from the valleys, There are tall ships lying off the coast, And they carry the light, In the dark of the night, Like a whisper in the wind - "Revolution!" Bring my gun and a handful of silver, By the sea we will gather for the fight, It's been so many years, so many tears, We have lost once before, Now we'll settle the score, When our cannons will roar - "Revolution!"

It's the age old question, talent, or cash. This, amongst others is a sure sign of the touch of genius CDB had, but it is indeed the Lady in Red that haunts him, as it is what he's remembered for. There's others, you could argue Fleetwood Mac with Buckingham/Nicks, Genesis without Gabriel, but Lady in Red along with Uptown Girl by Billy Joel are the two standouts for me. Oh, and loads by Paul McCartney :-)
