An unforgettable, fantastic legend. May her memory endure forever. 🎾🔥

Chris will always be the GOAT for me. Had she played the AO consistently like today's players did and had she not committed to WTT instead of playing the FO, I've no doubt she would be at about 24 Grand Slam championships. Her consistency over 20 years is untouched. And her total tournament and match wins shows her commitment to the entire tour and not just to major tournaments. And, frankly, without Chris, the women's game over the past 20 years would not be what it is today because without the 2-handed backhand, none of the women today would be playing this game.

Why Chrissy is so underrated? I don't know why people can't put her in the same category of Martina, Steffi, Serena or even Margaret Court in GOAT debate. She had amazing records. Even pre open era legends like Helen Wills & Suzanne Lenglen often rated higher than Chris Evert by many tennis pundits & critics.
@rajusaha855 Жыл бұрын
@Tobiasisback i think for few reasons she is underrated. She didn't have super high peak unlike Martina, Steffi, Serena or even Monica (1991-92), never wins more than 2 slams in a year, 13 consecutive loses against Navratilova despite being world no 2, lost to 8 consecutive times to Steffi when Chrissy was still ranked in the top 3 & the most important reason why she is underrated because of her playing style, if you watch her matches on KZbin now her game looks so slow with hardly any power more like ping pong lol😂😂. Younger generation makes mokery of her tennis skills now.

I am hunk most place her above these names as far as a beloved player. She won 90 percent of all of her matches over 19 years highest of all players . Won at least one slam event for 13 consecutive years . Number one fir 7 yrs number 2 for 5 yrs number 3 for 6 number 4 for 1971 her first year and was ranked number 4 going into her last USOpen .

@tobias. Two points wrong. Chris had very dominant years where she outpaced everyone winning 16 tourneys in one year and close to that another year. She opted out French for several yrs due to support of WT tennis. She also only played Aussie six times and made final every time. Her record against Graf was 6-7, not 6-8 as one was a WO.

While it wasn't a final win, I think Evert's win over Austin in the 1980 Semifinals was Evert's most satisfying and desperately wanted to win of any U.S. Open match she ever played...

1984 final vs Martina, 1st set point. Martina had beaten Chris 12 or 13 times straight to that point, and that 1st set win (in my opinion) turned the tide. Chris didn't win that match but that was the one that showed the true heart of a champion. And it wasn't long after that she beat Martina in Florida and then the classic 85 French. But in my opinion that 84 final set the table for what was to come

You got a few things wrong here. Her kind words about Pam in an acceptance speech is not one of the top moments. What about the win over Seles? That was probably her best played match of them all. What about the win over Austin in the semis?

Footage from her winning her 6 titles on MP should be shown with four spots left. 1. Win over Austin in 1980 Sf 2. Her final walk off match with Zina, 3 winning last point to win the first set vs Martina 1984 Open.4. Footage of fighting off 6 MP vs Eisel in her first open leading to Sf loss to king.

Reason why none of the 1980 match against Austin is shown here cuz it wasn't televised by CBS. The match was taped with no commentary. At one point the entire match was shown here on YT, but was later forcibly taken down

Was too young to even know what to do with a woman, and still dont BTW, but I had the biggest crush on Chris Evert in the 1980s. She was one of the most beautiful women ive ever seen, and even cooler, had the chops as well. Its kind of like the homecoming queen being the most talented girl as well.

I wish they would bring back wooden racquets. Today’s so called power game has ruined the sport. So many of the modern champions would have been only average players in this era.

I don't know if that's quite accurate in my view though I would understand why you feel that way. I think the women didn't hit the ball with the power they do nowadays. There has been improvement with equipment. One of the points shown between Evert and Navratilova was very impressive. In other highlights of Evert I was very impressed with her ball placement.
@eugenedowns2563 Жыл бұрын
@@smurfette1509 Agree! Greater emphasis on ball placement, strategy, constructing a point. It's not better or worse than the power game we see today, just different. And yeah, maybe not as dramatic.

@rajusaha855 Жыл бұрын
Yeah i agree, but the racquet & traning equipment are also different then. I think Martina & Steffi changed women's tennis more than anybody. Martina with her athleticism & Graf with her forehand & power & unbelievable footwork changed the whole scenario of women's tennis.
@Vikinggirl1679 Жыл бұрын
Really? Come on. Look at the persisting in ball placement, the strategy the mental toughness. All laking in today's sorry game. No real talent just boom boom boom. Boring. With the huge graphite racquets today who couldn't hit a ball? Bring back the wooden small racquets and let's see how today's players would do. They wouldn't know what to do if they couldn't just pound the ball.
