What a wonderful performance. I loved the tempo - just right for this piece. The only downside is that the Dead March from Saul will be running through my head for days to come. Which in itself is no bad thing, but I do have a good deal of Bruckner to attend to. Still, who hasn't got time to spare for this. Thank you, Mr Fleischer.

A wonderful piece of music - It is in my will that it is played at my funeral - If it was good enough for Admiral Lord Nelson and Sir Winston Churchill and many other fine Masons it is good enough for my passing.

Beautifully and masterfully played. A slightly extended version of Handel's Dead March from the oratorio Saul. Wonderful performance of this solumn and majestic piece of music. Played at the funerals of many notible personages including Admiral Lord Nelson in January, 1806 and more recently Dame Margaret Thatcher.

'Dead March in Saul' mostly used at funerals for reception of dead body into the church or for some silence observation I'm not sure anymore. Masterfully played

Chris, I wonder if Handel, Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Wagner, Beethoven, Chopin and all other great composers had written the theme tunes of the TV game shows we love and enjoy watching today

Just doing some family history and found this was played at an ancestors funeral in 1926, it's not as morbid as the title suggests.More celebratory.

Very good and effective registration used on the organ, however, at the beginning of the music there is written "grave" which means EXTREMELY SLOW. Although everything else is perfect, the fact that this music is played at a faster pace than it is written, makes it miss the point and effect. Otherwise well done.

In my comment I praised the tempo. But I take your point. I think like all great music it can reveal itself from wildly different interpretations.

Can someone help me get the lyrics, pls
@jcolbyt827 ай бұрын
There are no lyrics for the dead March that I am aware of. Saul itself was written for a choir to perform, but the dead March itself was meant to be just that, a march with no singing if I’m not mistaken. I do think that some composers have written lyrics to this tune, but Handel didn’t originally write lyrics for it. Someone else feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Myron Asien many apps now have the music sheets on it so the organist nu longer has to walk around with tons of music sheets. I know the Anglican Pray Book is now on an Android app

What is that thin, wide mirror for?
@chrisfleischer8 жыл бұрын
Sugary Snax That mirror is for the Organist to be able to see the Congregation and/or singers behind while playing and coordinate with them. It's just like a car rear view mirror, but in this case for the Organist.
