Maserati had no choice but to make sedans and SUVs. Almost nothing else sells, and as good as the MC20 is, that won't guarantee the brand's survival. The Levante and the Grecale will. I'm looking forward to the new GT, but again, that model won't pay the rent. The market is what it is, and the good old days of Grand Touring cars are gone.
@jaquevius2 жыл бұрын
I agree. I have a Maserati sedan and love it. Would I like an MC20? Of course, but in the price range I feel there are better options. It may be a flagship, but I hardly feel it will sustain the finances for the company. Yes, it's good for the brand name, but at the end of the day you have to supply what the consumer wants.

I'm old enough to remember that around 2018-2019 the "MC20" was rumored to be a new Alfa Romeo supercar, a successor to the 8C. Then it was moved to Maserati, because it probably fit better from a marketing perspective. It's was Alfa's time to give back I guess, since everything about the 8C was taken from Maserati (including the GranTurismo skeleton).

It’s not that the 4C couldn’t have double wishbones at the back it’s that it’s the front half of a Giulietta QV turned 180° and shoved in the back. The Giulietta has macpherson struts, so the 4C also gets them. Plus the MC20 isn’t a transverse 4 cylinder so it has more space. The MC20 was meant to be a prototype 6C, with the Giulia V6 and the Giulia’s double wishbones. But they obviously decided that Maserati as a brand was likely to sell more cars than Alfa.

The Nettuno engine is entirely new. I visited the Modena factory in early 2020 and went round their engine development area. It was made clear that it was an entirely new design and their first non Ferrari designed engine for 20 years. I went again in Sept 2021 and saw the MC20 being built and the engines being hand built in the engine centre, where they had been designed. Also, the original 4200 Spyder had a serious flex problem but Ferrari solved that in the 2005 model year by adding some massive underbody stiffening. This was done alongside the GranSport Spyder development and they used it on both cars. For a GT, the 2005-2007 cars are astonishing on a track!

The company Chris Harris is associated with - I wouldn’t buy anything off collecting cars without viewing the car in person before bidding. The description of the car I bought an Alpina B3, was total fabrication and Collecting Cars took no responsibility for the false description they published on their website. The car in question was 50 bhp down on power, had a cracked spring, door seals hanging off, throttle pedal needing a new cable, air con not working, one electric window not working and in total it needed £4k of mechanical servicing work, a torque converter/gearbox rebuild £3k and was missing its spare wheel and service history which it stated it had in the write up. Do not part with your money before seeing the physical car and getting it checked by a specialist. Their write ups on vehicles are very, very grey at best !

Aston is tied to a Spy and being British, expect for the times it's a BMW or a Jag in a 00 film or has a biTurbo AMG drive train. In regards to Maserati, the Qu-bang (the sound it makes when the warrantee goes out) as Clarskon put it back when it was a concept, basically ended up being an expensive FCA product. Kinda like how the Alfa ended up with a California T to power the Gulia but as a V6. The summary is, car companies will do whatever it takes to stay afloat. Sales figures etc will drive them. In regard to the MC20, has the air of Marussia B1 in looks, just like the B2 looks like a Lykan.

@@mrbig1022 Not in terms of ponies or speed but still a supercar, back in the early 70's park a Maserati 4 seat coupe and an E Type coupe behind each other and the E Type would get the crowd around it. The Maserati was about 2 grand more than the E Type but I know which I would have taken on a European tour, the Maserati, more space for her luggage and more comfort for us both. The company was over 50 years old before it built its first road car and it built that legendary 16 cylinder double V8 engine, two V8's sharing a single crankshaft. 4 banks of 4 cylinders to fit their race car chassis.

Also i think there have been recorded cylinder peak pressures of like 100 bar/1450psi during studies. So let´s hope they used a proper high-strength alloy. 😅
