In about 1985, at the age of ten, I wrote to Porsche in Germany to ask them for more info about the 959, which I knew back then was a very significant and special car. A few weeks later, I received a thin rigid cardboard envelope from Germany with beautiful silver fold out brochure entirely in German. I had no way of knowing what it all meant, but it had the same timeless, die-cast, serious, immaculate quality of the car itself.

Ours was clocked in Weisach 203.1 mph = 327 kmh with 525hps. While we do like and enjoy your videos Chris, I must say that the wheels were magnesium and if one had a scratch you had to bring it to the factory at Weisach's special department. They are the only ones who have the knowldege and tools required to deal with that car. We had our share of experiences... The problem is that Bridgestone only makes those tires when they get an order for like 48 tires. That makes it problematic - they are hard to find. When the second turbo kicks and you push it at 5000 / 5500 revs it is like a bull - you have to grip the wheel tight and tell it where to go. It follows the depper tracks of the road and you need to show it who the master is. Balance and handling are fantastic, what a car Porsche built, for eternity.
@uberseehandel5 сағат бұрын
Possibly clocked "near" Weisach. Weisach's track is a test of handling not speed. The cars were serviced at Tor 1 Zuffenhausen, where most of the 959S lived.

I think the qualities we appreciate from CHOC totally work in these home videos. You articulate your experience like no other - and the mix of live commentary and voice over are so enjoyable. Keep up the good work. I'm so glad you brought this format back.

You should all check out the 959's Bruce Canepa is building, he is rebuilding 50 of them, yep 50 even bought a delivery mileage one that came out of a office in a Japanese skyscraper and is rebuilding that, why? Because the engine was built to handle over 800hp so he is upgrading ignition systems, turbos, suspension, even got 50 sets of hollow magnesium wheels made to look identical but if i remember correctly the are 1 inch bigger, there is about 4000 hours build time put into each car 0-60mph 2.6 seconds and 230mph top speed, yet drives like a Golf in normal use. Pretty mad to think someone is buying some of the rarest cars on the planet at about $2million a pop and then pumping 4000 hours labour into them and then all the money in parts. I have no idea what he charges for them but must be pushing $4 million

What a car. Used to flip a coin on which I liked more as a kid, this or the F40. I think the F40 still has me smitten. Ultimately if I could have only a 2 car garage and had an endless budget for it, I’d have both. 959 for the daily and the F40 for the weekend.

Was lucky enough to bump into one of these sat on an MOT ramp while delivering parts one afternoon a few years ago. It’s not a sight I was expecting, nor likely to forget any time soon. An excellent video again 👏🏻

The 959 Alpine edition was my favorite hotwheel growing up in the late 80s and early 90s. It had Goodyear tires that you could remove. I loved that hotwheel more than anything

The Porsche 959 went way over budget and cost over $500,000 to build, but the company refused to cut corners and delivered each new car to it's owner for $225,000 as promised...

Still my favourite Porsche, bar none. I was a teenager when this thing happened and it changed my world. The advances that Porsche made with this are used in cars today, so it changed the automotive world, too. Thanks for this video, Chris.

Awesome video Chris, I remember reading about this car as a kid because people had issues with getting them in the U.S., thanks again great job! Also, just wanted to say that I really enjoyed listening to you on JRE, it was a real eye opener for who you are as a person and the trouble you had to endure on TG. This video is proof that Joe is right you can do this on your own!

An absolute stunner and a thing of beauty. I had the little die cast and plastic kit you had to put together yourself, when I was a kid. Just can’t get over how good it looks today, just as it did back then.

What a "simple" yet perfect video. No fuss just a car being driven. Porsche would be proud

I saw one at a local gas station here in Orange County, it was glorious seeing it in person, truly an automotive icon. The example I saw a the gas station is currently for sale at Bring a Trailer.

The 959 takes me back to my teenage Commodore Amiga days when I used to play the 2D 'Test Drive 2" game endlessly!! The weekend started with your podcast on Friday and has ended with this.. What a treat on a Sunday evening!

In July 1988, CAR Magazine ran an amazing feature with the 959 and F40. I was lucky to get my hands on a copy of this issue as a 14 year old living in Los Angeles (CAR wasn’t sold here), but my uncle left his copy at our house while he was visiting. It was about as thrilling and exotic as those first Playboys I saw at around the same age. I still have it.
