Chris you’re awesome. My husband and I look forward to your videos. He was diagnosed with grade 4 cancer last Aug. We have a goal to hike the JMT in July. Your videos keep us inspired. That’s super important right now with everything he’s going through. Thanks for all you do.

So sorry to hear what you’re going through. Sending prayers for you and your hubby. I’m glad my crazy hobby has helped you guys. Even if just a little bit. The JMT is a beautiful and healthy place to focus on. I thought about it daily for years before I went and it helped me through the stresses of everyday life. The dreaming and anticipation were a core part of the experience, and I think part of what made it so profound for me. I pray this dreaming helps you and your hubby get through this time. If you haven’t already watch the movie “Mile, Mile and a Half”. It’s on amazon. It’s a feel good movie about the JMT that always cheers me up. -Chris

ChrisIsAwesomeProductions Thank you Chris, the JMT sounds very compelling and you’re absolutely right...the dreaming and anticipation are huge for us. God willing, if we can make this trip, we’re going to film and capture as much as we can and make a video to hopefully inspire others battling cancer. I look to your videos for inspiration as they are fun to watch, super creative, and extremely engaging! Great work! We’re looking forward to the High Sierra documentary. P.S. Yes, Mile Mile and a Half is good. Another good one is John Amorosano’s “Journey Through The Range of Light” and check out Adventure Archive’s Mt. Whitney video. We really do spend a lot of time outdoors, but this winter during my husband’s cancer treatment we’ve been “couch mountaineers” and spent a lot of time watching JMT on the couch. 😊 Hopefully that will change soon!

Suzanne Towry-Pourroy I think a video on that would be very inspiring! The HST documentary will be premiered 5/5 at a live event in Campbell, CA. If it’s too far, or your husband is not well enough to go let me know and I’ll send over a private link so you can do some more couch mountaineering. ;)

ChrisIsAwesomeProductions that would be awesome Chris! :). It would mean a lot as we need the inspiration. My husband said to tell you thank you. We were born and raised in SoCal but now we live in North Carolina (what??) and we miss the Sierras otherwise we’d be there in a heart beat. He served on LASD Search and Rescue for 27 years (I was on for 17 years) and now we are trying to figure out this “new normal” where we have some physical limitations and have to keep those in mind. He’s helped a lot of people during rescue situations in their greatest time of need and now I want to take time to document his life and dream of hiking the JMT. So I will leave you with another question and then I’ll quite bombarding you with messages... knowing what you know now about filming and editing, if you were to hike the JMT again, what filming equipment would you take? I have an iPhone, go pro 5 and Sony A6500. Still trying to figure out what to take with us. Looking into the Manfrotto lightweight tripod.

Suzanne Towry-Pourroy Ping me on FB! Easier that way. If I was going to do the JMT again I’d bring the A6500, 16-70mmF4 lens for daytime use, Sigma 30mmF1.4 for nighttime use, and instead of a full tripod I’d bring a pedco ultrapod grip and plan to use nature tripods instead. (Rocks, tree stumps, etc). For audio, the little Rode videomicro works great as long as you are within 3-4 ft of the mic. Move the camera slower than you think you need to, and capture a variety of angles and don’t forget the closeup details. Shoot 24fps 4k with shutter locked at 1/50. Use only ISO and aperture to control light. ND filters are a must for the day. I like the BW ND .9 MRC filters. Only shoot dialog audio in quiet places away from water and wind noise. Use the furry cover on the rode videomicro. Gopros are great for timelapses, underwater, or on a little gimbal. The EVO SS GoPro gimbal is amazing, small, and light and lets you create smooth cinematic shots with ease. Hope this helps!
