In Jericho’s book (the one that starts from 1999, his second one I think - Undisputed) he details their dialogue in the weeks leading up to his death. He had a missed call from Benoit a week or so before it happened and wondered what he wanted to talk about. He gives a lot of details about his attempts to contact Benoit by text and by phone and how he didn’t get responses (weeks before the incident), and Benoit didn’t show up when Jericho and his son had arranged to meet him etc. It’s an interesting read. He also talks about the Chyna stuff and all the politics he faced.

I think the tragic loss of Eddie Guerrero was the catalyst that really led to the mental breakdown of Chris. Eddie was not only a close friend but also an integral part of Chris' life, and his sudden death left a profound impact on Chris. This, coupled with Chris' history of severe concussions, steroid use, and grueling schedules with little time for rest or grieving, likely contributed to his rapid mental deterioration. It is clear that the combination of these factors had a devastating effect on Chris' mental health, ultimately leading to the tragic events that unfolded.

Excellent way to explain what happened! Notice how you didn’t bash the wrestler or the human being he is. Nobody excuses what he did! Great job! Like Jericho said we truly til this day, don’t know what happened or why. Appreciate what the man gave you in the ring and in life as a person up until that point!

Great way to put it. I hate how WWE puts all the blame on the wrestlers who do things against their image but in the end WWE should be held accountable as well. Their talent are hired as independent contractors so they don't have to pay out additional money. This puts pressure on the talent to do anything to stay on top so they don't lose their income. The company pushed steroid use, dangerous stunts and many other shady practices. Benoit had no premeditation as he was planning a trip with his first son before the incident. Something just happened and no one will know. These are human beings being used to make profit and nothing more to the WWE.

Apparently he lost 3 big people at once. Eddie was important, but there was another one who was his and Nancy's confident and best friend who got them through shit before. So this time, he had lost 3 close friends, including his best friend, and his relationship was a mess without the bestie to help them again. Horrible tragedy, and it was a combo of brain damage, issues with his wife, and losing everyone he could count on within a few weeks

One thing I've always questioned is if he was so mentally unstable he actually thought he was "saving" them from something worse than being strangled to death. He wrote numerous assumptions in his diary that he thought people were following him, and coming to get him and his family. He even started taking different routes to the gym and on the way home in the weeks leading up to his death.

@@rusevisgod4586 yeah. It's absolutely insane what CTE does to people. The Benoit tragedy is just one of many of these types of incidents caused by the condition. Athletes in other contact sports have committed familicide as well due to CTE. Some have been even worse than what Chris did. If this didn't happen to Benoit, it was only a matter of time before it happened with someone else in the wrestling world. However one thing that is worth noting is that there were reports of Chris being an abusive husband at times long before this unfortunately. I would like to think this was caused by early stages of CTE, and that's not who he actually was

We know why. Just look up CTE victims and CTE symptoms. A lot of football players wives have said their husbands have threatened to murder them and look like they were going to do it then shortly after they can’t even remember it. Also the heat map on the Benoit home showed that he was alive for hours after his wife and son were murdered. So it was almost certainly a CTE induced rage moment that he probably snapped out of shortly after and was left with the realisation that his wife and kid had been murdered by his hand. Something he probably didn’t even remember doing. Then he did what I think most of us would have done and killed himself. You don’t get points for saying this but the man and his family were all victims of a profession knowingly causing this disease and covering it up.

perfectly explained. I think CTE mixed with the illegal drugs these wrestlers were able to get prescribed from WWF/Es medical staff is really what caused him to have all these demons and on top of all that his best friend died. I think Vince has some blood on his hands when we talk about the Benoit tragedy. There was no wellness policy, med staff didn’t give a crap. Sad to see great performers be used to make money and not caring about their well being and then erasing him from history for actions that was caused by the sport itself

other examples are Jimmy Snuka, Grand Master Sexy, Crash Holly, the 2 von erichs. 3 of the Von Erichs committed suicide but Kerry was forced to retire and disabled after having his foot amputated because of a motorcycle accident so i wouldn’t consider Kerrys to be wrestling related. I grew up a MASSIVE Chris Benoit fan & I put him in my top 5 or top 10 favorite wrestlers growing up. Tbh, I still think that way to this day. I'm not honoring his actions by all means. But I still believe to this day that Chris Jericho said it best that Eddie Guerrero's death was the last straw for Chris Benoit. If Eddie was still alive in '07, there's just almost no way the Benoit incident would've happened. That's just facts right there. CTE would have been a massive contributor. But I think we all know the general parts of the story if not the specifics: ruined brain, losing his three best friends in a year or so, and marital problems again which his bestie fixed in the past. After the accident he was reclusive, struggled in school and unable to control his emotions. When I was growing up, I always knew him to have an explosive, violent temper but I didn't know his history. He was not a bad person, he was just damaged and struggling; and being a man, he was too proud to ask for help with his demons. Although WWE has tried to distance itself from Chris Benoit over the years, he was once a huge part of the sport. Plus, his passing helped educate the world about the effects that contact sports can have on someone’s health. Chris had an impressive wrestling career for 22 years and took home several titles in that time. Even on the night of his passing, Chris was expected to win his third world championship at a WWE event. That moment never came as Chris was found to have taken his own life in June 2007. This came after he took the life of his son and wife. Further research has shown several concussions and damage led Chris to suffer from behavioral issues and dementia.

I think he didn’t realize what he did until he did it. Brain damage and CTE work in crazy ways and I don’t think he knew what he was doing when he was doing it. It was a manic episode where he wasn’t himself and he wasn’t in his right mind. He needed professional help and unfortunately wasn’t able to get it. It’s so tragic but if there’s a takeaway from this it’s the research that was done on CTE and brain damage and how it affects people in sports obviously it’s still an issue today but there’s a lot more precautions in place to protect everyone and more wellness and safety checks, it’s just unfortunate something as terrible as that had to happen before it was taken seriously.

Purely opinion, but Chris obviously had CTE. I can only imagine he had depression, bipolar disorder or some mental condition as well. Chavo Guerrero - a close friend of Benoit- told WWE magazine that he talked to Chris for while on Friday night on his house phone. About 45 minutes into the conversation, Chris told him that there was somebody knocking at his door and he was going to see who it was. Shortly after Chris answered the door, there was a “scuffle” and then his house phone line went dead. Chris could only be reached on his cell phone about 3 hours later. This is very significant. This explains why there was no forced entry. Chris let the killer or killers in. After Chavo reached Chis on his cell phone, he said that Chris sounded very odd, groggy and tired. He also said that Chris told him “I Love You Chavo” which sounded forced. The WWE also said that when Chris called in and told them that Nancy and Daniel were sick he did not sound like himself. He sounded groggy. Chris then said “I Love You” which they say was out of context because he usually didn’t say this. Chris Benoit’s cell phone is missing. The police cannot find his cell phone or the needles they say Chris used to inject himself with steroids shortly before he died. The police have turned his cell phone off. Chris was not hanging from the weight machine, he was laying on the floor underneath the machine. Another officer said that Benoit was “slumped” against the weight machine. There was a white cloth wrapped around Chris’ neck. If he was so suicidal why would he care if his neck was bruised? The medical examiner says that Chris Benoit died on Saturday. The text messages were sent on Sunday. Chris was already dead so who sent the text messages? It is noted that nobody talked to Chris on Sunday. The steroids found in Chris’ house were not in his body. If Chris’ had murdered his family then why did he need to text people? Think about it. Everybody was dead. Nobody would hear him talking so why text? Calling would have been easier. (I believe the killer text Benoit’s address to get somebody to come to the house to find the bodies) Chris sent Chavo a text message telling him his address. Why would he do this? Chavo already knew were Chris lived. He spent the previous weekend with him. Chris’ body was badly de- composed, about the same as Nancy’s. This shows he died sooner than Sunday. Why would he tie up Nancy to kill her? He was a big guy. He could have just hit her one good time and she would have been out. Ray also told me that the world press is reporting the manner of the deaths wrong. He says that Daniel was shot in his head and Nancy was shot in her chest. Chavo said that the Chris Benoit seemed “worried” about something but he could not get Chris to open up and tell him why he was worried. There was no Bible besides Chris’ body. Why would he place a bible beside Nancy and Daniel and not place one beside his own if he knew he was about to take his own life? There were 10 empty beer cans and an empty body of wine besides Chris’ body. He tested negative for alcohol. The toxicology confirmed that Chris had Hydrocodone (pain killer) Xanex (anti-anxiety drug). I have used both of these. These 2 drugs combined will sedate Chris and make him very sleepy. So he could not fight back. The police originally said that Daniel died on Friday because his body was badly de-composing. This supports my belief that all 3 died on Friday night. The police changed the manner of Daniel’s death 3 times. 1st he died from a garbage bag, 2nd he died from a choke hold, 3rd he was smothered by a pillow. Why would they keep changing? The police kept changing the location of where Nancy’s body was found. 1st she was found in the downstairs family room. 2nd she was found in the upstairs bedroom. 3rd she was found in the house office. Chris’ father said that Chris called him on father’s day and told him that he wished he could spend more time with his family but he had to work. One of Nancy’s friend says that Nancy Loved Chris and she had no plans to leave him. Retired Wrestler Bam Bam Bigalow died 1-19-07. Sherry Martel died 6-15-07. The Benoit family died 6-22-07. Since this family died, 2 other wrestlers have died. (Brian Adams and Johnny Crush in July and August 07) Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero and Brian Pillman all died the night before they were set to win title belts. Sherry Martel’s death is even more suspicious to me. Sherry Martel had ties to Nancy Benoit’s ex-husband Kevin Sullivan. The circumstances surrounding her death have not been released. Kevin Sullivan told Chris Benoit that he would kill him. Kevin is currently a high ranking member of a satanic cult. Kevin is also on the WWE Board of Directors. Kevin Sullivan also had motive to kill Daniel Benoit because he was Chris and Nancy’s offspring. Retired wrestler Dusty Roads said that “he danced with the devil” when working with Kevin Sullivan who is known as being Cold-hearted and conniving. The Benoit family was murdered on the 10-year anniversary of Nancy’s divorce from Kevin Sullivan. Nancy Benoit’s death was posted on the internet, 14 hours before her body was found. Weeks before he died, Chris Benoit’s colleagues said that Chris began taking alternate routes to and from work and back to his house. Chris and Nancy believed that somebody was following them. Chris’ friends dismissed his worries as paranoia. The Benoit family was murdered the same week that the WWE had a story line of “Who killed Vince Mc..

I respect Jericho, but it's always weird when people try to ignore the facts. There is a huge history of People that suffered from CTE who killed their Families. It's a horrible thing, and it's sad that these things had to happen until someone finds a solution to discover and treat CTE.

If it's so huge please list 3 other than this incident. Agree that it is a terrible disease and can lead to suicide and even killing but to say it's huge in its occurrence is inaccurate. This case was handled dubiously by police and detectives to say the least. No fingerprints were taken anywhere and with it being inconclusive based on the evidence by their own accounts, this case needs reopening as Chris Benoit was not the definite murderer of his wife and child. If we take the CTE route I imagine scanning the entire WWE roster of that era we would find cases in the majority. This is a far more complex case than the media have made out and there is reason to bring up plausible doubt surrounding the conclusions made so quickly by police, by media and by the public given the 'huge' holes and inconsistencies evidence-wise.

@@narrowpathactivation I'm extremely late to answer this and you might not see it (Phillip Adams Aaron Hernandez Jovan Belcher) These 3 killed people and themselves suicide is actually linked as a major cause of death in CTE sufferers Junior Seau killed himself theres actually quite a few deaths and murders linked to CTE

@Domaupperrank2 weird your list includes no one that murdered their wive and own child. Also aaron hernandez didnt commit suicide because of cte, he did it because he was looking at life in fucking prison and thought killing himself would be easier and that his life insurance would get paid to his partner.

I remember hearing that Nancy's Wikipedia page said she died before news even broke. Which to me is very odd. So many things don't make sense but I can tell you that Benoits last ecw appearance he looked super sad and emotional. If you watch the part where punk and Benoit shake hands Benoit looked like he was almost crying. It's hard to put in to words what he was thinking that night.
