Wow, Chris from one of my all time faves Sloan, talking about my all time fave Rush! Very cool. I never copied Rush lyrics for school, but I showed my dad (a jazz/classical guy with disdain for rock) the lyrics to Xanadu, and he was quite impressed. Gained me a bit of legitimacy in the household.

'Subdivisions' also triggers an emotional response with me for some reason... glad I'm not the only one, Chris! My all-time favourite Rush song. Great interview. Thanks for this.

OMG! I also won a contest in high school with lyrics from Rush! I forgot to do my homework, which was to write a poem, so I hastily wrote down the lyrics to "The Trees." My teacher loved it so much she submitted it to a contest. I won third place in Essex County. (Third?! Idiots.) I heard it on the school announcements and was terrified. I had to tell the teacher, figuring someone would eventually discover who really wrote my masterpiece.

I plagiarized The Spirit of Radio to a poem when crunch time came and I had nothing written. So borrowing Neil's lyrics I hastily wrote, came class had to read it out loud. My classmates didn't get it as they looked with confused and dazed looks after reading it. Quiet, my teacher breaks the awkward silence says that was brilliant. Thankfully no award nominations for it. Lol
