Chris Niccolls ties a Foam Dragonfly

Chris from Bow River Troutfitters has an easy, and fun, extenda-body dragonfly pattern for you. You can tie these in various sizes and colours, using just simple 2mm foam. These flies can be very effective on stillwater ponds, and lakes, as well as some river systems. Blue is an effective colour tied smaller, to mimic damselflies. I had no idea you guys had such a strong youtube presence, Just ordered a Ross reel LTX off you gents, someone was nice enough to call me after and ask if i wanted backing on it - something I didn't think about since I haven't actually fly fished yet. Ill make sure to be using you guys in the future. Hopefully the reel pairs up nicely with the TFO rod I got from you guys at christmas as well, looking forward to giving everything a try. Any recommendations for some of the best flies for targeting brookies on still water and small rivers?

We hope you enjoy the reel! It's one of our favourites. If its Brook trout on our smaller mountain streams here in Alberta, then we love small Stimulator's and Elk Hair Caddis in the summertime. Switch those up for beetles and ants as the season transitions to fall.

If you wrap your segments the opposite way from the inside out it’s much easier
