In the chicken world, there are people who are VERY adamant about knowing everything and their way being the only "right" way. In my experience, people like that always have an agenda. I know I don't know everything. I'm still learning and I haven't had chickens my whole life. I'm just trying to get good info out there. In my opinion, the best information comes from farmers who have been in the game a long time, so that's usually the first place I go.

Right Chris, and a cow can jump over a fence too. People told me that couldn't happen too. But I've watched them do it. Dairy cows and beef and as easy as you please too. Once they know they can you can't keep them in.

Sorry my friend, I just don't see this as a "rant". Too much good information in there! You have to have a hide as thick as that boar when you put out good, honest information on YT. Ok...? Tho i havent watched all videos yet...why can you not eat that boar you are talking about and why can he only be worth $20? Sorry but i havent seen Any pig meat that is total $20 of a 600 lb. Pig. I know they prob. Will only weigh in at 450 after hung clean but wow. I get you want him for breeding purposes so prob. Worth more than eating him would be but is it you dont WANT to eat him or CAN'T eat him? I have heard bout the adrenaline changing meat taste but also told if you shoot it or stick it straight to brain in a fast hurry you resolve that issue no matter how big they get unless they are a feral boar.
@HomesteadingtheHardWay

Old folks would eat them but its pretty nasty pork really not fit to eat it's the testosterone . I had people tell me the same thing but they didn't take the boar when I offered lol . Honestly they won't bring 20.00 most of the time had a couple bring less than 5.00 dog food and the hide is all they're used for

I hope you keep going. I also get mad at stupid vidjas unless they're funny. I know you're real as it gets. What you say is all tried and true stuff from way back. It seems in this world common sense went out the window. Living off the land is hard, hard work. Listen to the old timers and it might go easier for you. This is the way 90 percent of people had to do 100 yrs ago. It's more independent but not easy.

My wife says we're in a time warp , folks lived the old way here until the 90s and then it changed fast new people moved in and the younger folks moved to town . The old ways are disappearing and when knowledge is lost it's hard to find again !

Chris, I'd love to hear a list of the non sense crap information you're talking about so I don't get led down the wrong path. You definitely can't believe everything you hear on KZbin. I've seen in one of your videos where you talk about non GMOs and how there is a lot of misinformation out there about it. I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially on non GMO feed and is it worth it. Thanks for all you do!
@HomesteadingtheHardWay
@HomesteadingtheHardWay 4 жыл бұрын
I might do a video on just that , GMOs are not the devil they are made out to be and are probably honestly the answer to world hunger but there's some corporate greed mixed in that causes real problems for some farmers in poor countries and a short answer is non GMO feed triples the cost of feeding livestock with no real benefits, people eat them every day just don't realize it

I've heard that if you castrate a full grown boar and wait 6 months - the "Taint" is gone. Do you have any experience with that?
@HomesteadingtheHardWay

That's true but its rough to do , half the time they die during. The meat is still kinda low quality . That's what we used to do and still would if times were bad !

@@FITZIEBLUE it's a battle for sure ! Veterinarians around here won't do it anymore . Me and Big Mike cut one last year for him , all that trouble and danger and it died the next day

I learned that lesson the hard way. 2 weeks ago I paid a vet to come out and tranquilize the 8 month old boar and we castrated him. He died the next morning. I'll never make that mistake again. Either I'll cut them no later than 6 weeks old or I'll sell them for breeding.
@HomesteadingtheHardWay
@HomesteadingtheHardWay 4 жыл бұрын
@@booneliscious if definitely not worth the trouble to cut a grown boar honestly 75lbs is the absolute biggest they can be , I cut ours at 4 week unless I'm keeping some intact and need to see what they look like a little bigger .

I don’t get the lack of value for the boar. Why couldn’t you sell the semen for artificial insemination?
@HomesteadingtheHardWay
@HomesteadingtheHardWay 6 ай бұрын
It would be way more trouble than it's worth . It's not as simple as collecting semen and selling it the storage equipment alone is several thousand dollars. Last one I sold brought 11.00 at 806 lbs they're only used for the hide and pet food , lol people claim you can eat them but when I've offered to give them one they always have an excuse
