There is no secret or mystery folks. It just takes time and commitment. There is such a wealth of information now that a trained monkey could do it. Taste and knowing what to leave out is an entirely different matter. And - jazz has lowered the bar over the last @40 years so you no longer need an original voice.

They play the 3rd note of the melody on the beat. It's supposed to be anticipated. As far as I'm concerned, that nullifies his entire solo, and everything he's ever played since. Unforgivable. AND I could beat him in an arm wrestle. At that age I mean. When he was 14 and if I was my present age of 41. In that hypothetical scenario, I might win.

Hello Osian Roberts, haha, stumbled upon your comment browsing KZbin. You've been my sax teacher at Prague Jazz workshop 2003 and I still play! Thanks for your lessons, you taught us Sack of Whoe and some other tunes by ear. Took me 15 more years to figure out that learning by ear is actually REALLY important, so that's what I do now. Being almost 32. I'm 32 soon. And Chris was 14. Oh my god. Im such a looser. Anyways, best regards Hannes from Berlin
