@Reptile_Gecko

@@animalsareloveandhappiness4505 its been done, I've seen plenty of dogs do it with just 2 back legs sometimes they'll work with a wheelchair and sometimes they just prefer to it done it by themselves, ofc it's unideal in bigger animals, I've heard of animals being put down just because of one leg being in a bad condition, because having even 1 less leg would not work for them because of their sheer size, like a Great Dane might struggle 🤷‍♀️ I personally haven't heard of one, but if it's a thing I'd love to hear about it.. tho I do hope the male and female are never paired again or even better neither bred at all again people would do this with more minor faults with a litter.. but something so severe as all of the litter, but one dying and the final one needing a surgery because of a leg is definitely something that should never imo be tried again.. and ofc the female shouldn't have been left in labour for 1 day let alone 3.. a vet should have been called for a home visit, or at least take the female to the vet.. for a better chance to save the puppies and remove as much risk and stress on the female as possible..

@@anndam__ ye if the animal can still have a good quality if life without it.. then I'm all for it.. but there are some things that wouldn't like bigger mammals as their body wieght may just be too great and losing even 1 leg can be too much.. I have heard if people putting reinforcements ok bigger animals tho.. like an elephant who had a leg that wasn't necessarily bad off, but was making it harder for it to walk so they got a prosthetic person (sorry can't remember the actual job term) and they belt something that could go around the leg to reinforce it to give the elephant a good few more years and still keep its quality up.. but if it was a different situation and teh leg was far worse and not savable then most likely the elephant wouldn't have been savable.. I do really want to see if soke bigger dog breeds have any good cases of losing a leg and still getting a good quality if life cause sometimes Great Danes in general can have bad genetics with their bine structure which is why it's good when they can find individuals who done, but they can't inbreed that too much as it just ruins it at some point, yk? Sort of rambled sorry.. 👉👈

Anyone else think that the Akita puppy may have been apart of a puppy mill? All but one puppy died, and the survivor was born with a deformity If the mom was in labor for three days, she probably didn't feel safe or secure in the environment she was in.
@marysueeasteregg
@marysueeasteregg 3 жыл бұрын
Could be. I was thinking a smaller operation, e.g., an especially irresponsible backyard breeder. I suspect a puppy mill operator would simply get such a deformed dog euthanized. Or, shudder, kill it themselves. But you certainly could be right. *Definitely* not a responsible breeder, letting the dam be in labor for three days (!). And not having the money for treatment. At least they surrended her.

@marysueeasteregg
@marysueeasteregg 3 жыл бұрын
@@karindickinson7993 Make money or make a profit? Puppy mills -- operations which mass produce dogs in poor conditions -- can be legislated against pretty easily. Banning pet stores from buying puppies to sell, or requiring them to offer only rescue dogs, are wonderful ideas. Unfortunately, I don't see how the law is ever going to be able to differentiate between backyard breeders and responsible hobby breeders; and to me, there's a significant difference between the two. I'm a supporter of the latter; breeders who do genetic and health testing on their breeding stock, who plan their matings carefully, who (often) show in the conformation ring, or participate in performance sports, or use their dogs in the field for hunting, herding or such. Such breeders have a right to charge for their puppies -- and prices can be pretty hefty -- though I doubt many make an actual profit, given the costs of keeping dogs and raising a litter. Plus it is ill-advised, at least in the U.S., to give away puppies for free. Free puppies/dogs are at risk of a bad fate, they can end up bait dogs or destined for laboratories. : ( So charging at least a small purchase price is safer for young (or older) dogs when they change hands.

I was saddened that the breeders (probably back street breeders) let the poor mother be in labour for 3 days and didn't get professional help. No doubt they wouldn't spend the money and because Anneka has a genetic deformity, seems they were inbreeding as well. I hope Anneka has found a good, loving home by now as she is/was a gorgeous puppy. I would have liked to have seen a follow up on how she was doing.

@@Pythonaria Such is sadly the problem with backyard breeders. They only care for the money, not for the potential life they are bringing into the world nor for the harm they are doing to the dog parents. Akita's are a gorgeous and expensive breed of dog. With that, people will backyard breed them for profit given the chance to, even if it means inbreeding and health problems.

@@Lyrule_OW I'm in the UK. Looking through dogs for sale the other day believe it or not someone was charging £12,500 ($17,255) for a Poodle puppy. I hope it was a misprint but apart from that, there were only a few under £2000 ($2760) so back street breeders have been making a HUGE profit. Also, dog stealing here is rife at the moment. Some of the "rescues" have got greedy too. One local dog rescue is charging £350 for an adult dog and £400 for a puppy. For someone getting a puppy that does not include neutering. This same rescue keeps moaning they can't find homes for their dogs. Maybe they should lower their prices considerably. My last dog, a GSD was adopted from a rescue. I lost him to old age just over a year ago so I'm almost ready to get another dog but as I'm getting on in years myself, it'll be a much smaller dog.

@@Pythonaria I've seen a few videos of animal shelters in the States having special adoption days, when they clear out the whole shelter by making the animals free, or especially cheap for a day or weekend. The cut the vessel and usually cauterize or let it clot to stop the bleeding

The vessels are either cauterized or tied off, depending on the vessel's size. Smaller vessels are cauterized. (Jan Griffiths).

Dog breeders suck, all they care about is making money! 1K per a dog (US dollars) presumably and they cannot afford veterinary care for one of their puppies, are you kidding?! They pawn of veterinary costs to a non-profit rescue, ridiculous!

I love Chris and all that he does… he’s amazing with animals and i’m glad he was so thorough with Annika. But I feel like he made it sounds like if they amputate it’ll mean the dog can’t live a happy life on three legs. Coming from someone who owns a dog with three legs I know that is not the case. I almost feel like he’s scared the foster mom, When he really should’ve been talking up how much better her life is going to be without the leg. just my opinion, Again I’m so happy that there are vets like Chris in the world! Really wish I would’ve had someone like Chris when I was going through all my surgeries with my dog.

No reputable breeder would let a dog labor for 3 days. Horrible.
@fettersofdromi
@fettersofdromi 3 жыл бұрын
To me, it seems like the breeders kept the dog in labor to try and get all the puppies to hopefully sell them? And surrendered her because she would lose them money. I'm hoping this isn't the case but you can never be too sure.
@douglasgriffiths3534

The rest of the litter died. Once a dog goes into labor, the placentas detach from the uterus, and the puppies need to be delivered ASAP. Annika's mom was in labor for 3 days. That's definitely not normal, and I bet the rest of the litter had birth defects as well. (Jan Griffiths).

YES! I noticed that too and was hoping they eventually got that checked out as well. If her other eye issues were caused by a medical condition, I think it's safe to assume that her other eye (or other organs like the brain) could be at risk for having issues as well.
@Lexzah
@Lexzah 2 жыл бұрын
@@Panda72021 I'm sure they did check but found that there was no cause for concern and left it they just wouldn't have shown it on Camera. I'm sure they give all the animals a general health check up off camera when the animals are brought in. You can't show everything after all cause it'd take too long and get boring, they have to chose the most exciting parts to go on T.V.

People just stroll into the surgical suite? No gowns, no booties, no hats, no gloves or masks? What kind of doctors are they? This is a shock. That surgical suite is so contaminated. UGH!! I would NEVER bring an animal there for surgery as they would come home with nosocomial infections.

We had a cat born with three legs. I'm pretty sure he only has a scapula. Maybe 1/4 of his humorous. He throws his nub like Annika did, and walks and runs just the same. He was 1 in a litter of 6. All lived. It was a very fast labor too. The amazing part is he is the fastest cat in our house. But he has a fear of feet. We called him Stumpy as a joke then it stuck.

Anyone else notice the nystagmus in that cat’s supposedly healthy eye? It’s especially noticeable around 28:00 and 32:00. I know this show they don’t show the full range of vet care provided, but it still bothers me that they didn’t address that on camera prior to surgery. It seems kind of important. [Edit: Nystagmus = involuntary eye movement. Can be caused by dozens of different things, none of which would make her a good candidate for surgery until after they got under control. I’m not a vet, but I’ve worked in animal care for a long time, and a quick search of Pet MD confirmed what I already knew. But, to any vets reading this, if I got anything wrong please correct me! I love learning new things. ❤️]
