You make a good point, excess weight, for any animal and humans is never a good thing. I can't tell you the amount of animals I've met where their owners over feed them or give them human food. I let my guinea pig carry a little extra weight, but that's on purpose, and after speaking to my vet. She is prone to malocclusion, so it is a buffer zone in case its needed. Rats are THE best pet... Poor Marcus. Myco FTL. :( He clearly loves him mama though, and she's taking good care of him. I used to nebulise my rats at home when they had chronic lung issues, and at the very least, it helped them be more comfortable, as well as helping get past some really nasty pneumonia. Saline alone is good, we used to use some nebulised antibiotics and mucolytics too, and occasionally Ventolin. A rat washing their face that vigorously after a nebuliser is usually a good sign that at the least their nose is nice and clear! LOL

Unfortunately many people can't take care of a rescue dog because they almost Always have extra needs. If u can, go ahead. Also never buy from pet stores. 99% of per store dogs are from puppy mills. No reputable breeder will sell dogs without a secured home. When we sell our dogs, we state in our contract that you cannot ever give the puppy to a shelter or pound, and if you give it to family or a friend, you must tell us. And if they cannot find a home for the dog, they are legally required to give it back. We also never ship puppies because this is traumatizing for them. We even have a "puppy nanny" that we hire to ride with them on the planes and care for our 6 dogs when we aren't home.

I rescued a cat that had feline aids (FIV) virus. I had him neutered and vaccinated. He was a sweet cat and got along well with my other cats. The only way FIV is past to other cats, is through a bite wound. As there was never any fighting, all the cats lived to past 17 years of age. Vets need to stop putting fear in peoples hearts about FIV. There is plenty of research showing that these cats that have FIV can live perfectly normal lives when kept indoors and properly nourished. This is so weird. I tried to look for dogs to foster in Finland. There were eight in the whole country of 5.5 million people. No stray cats, no stray dogs, basically. Not that I am sure, but I think our kennels have a policy that if you cannot take care of the dog anymore, the kennel will take it back and try to find a new home. I think they always vet the family they will give a dog to to start with. That is, it's the people that are evil.

Puppy mills are the real problem. Once a dog retires from breeding, it's easier to throw it on the street than to give it to a shelter, so they often do, when decent food is not cheap, they underfeed them and give them the cheapest (almost always most unhealthy) food they can find. Clean water too expensive? Give them dirty irrigation water instead. Don't have enough time to properly give each of thousands of dogs one on one attention?, don't! Instead Leave them outside, scared of people, neglected, and eating their own crap to have somewhere to lay instead. The things people do for money.

@@Ghost15431 Yeah, I do not know what it is, but I am 50 years old and I have never seen a homeless cat or dog in my life in Finland. Sure, some loose ones in the 1970s and 1980s, but we always knew who's animals they were. Might have been that people earlier just killed all the 'unnecessary' kittens and puppies until it went to this kennel system. There was probably a law or something. Given in our weather conditions one cannot really have loose kittens and puppies and cats and dogs running around, because they won't survive. They'll be just eaten by the wilder animals. It's probably why we do not have such a rat problem either. Now, given global warming we may get the rat problem. I doubt the cat or dog problem, given it's been in our culture for such a long time already to control the ownership of cats and dogs. The EU, I think, is even starting to get on the case, given the free movement of diseases in the free movement area in the EU/EEA. That is, microchipping is probably going to be made compulsory.

@@samhartford8677 well if it works then it works. And for the better. Animals also should be chipped, especially in places where they get lost, abandoned or stolen so often. I think fixing animals that aren't intended to be used for breeding should be compulsory as well. And breeding animals need a permit to be breed. That'll stop a lot of the animal homelessness in other places around the world.

I used to assist with hip, Knee & shoulder replacement on people. Too bad they can’t do an intra op X-ray on the table that holds a flat plate either under the dog or in a special slot in the table. C-arm is wildly expensive so I understand why they don’t have one of those. Fascinating to see though I wish it wasn’t blurred out, that’s the best part!😷😷😉😉

Having a pet at home is also a kind of animal therapy. In fact, data shows that people who have pets visit the hospital 20% less often per year than those who do not. In Germany, 750 billion yen and in Australia, 300 billion yen in medical costs have been reduced due to the impact of pets. In a study of heart disease patients, there was a significant difference in mortality rates: 3 out of 53 people with pets died after one year, and 11 out of 39 people without pets died after one year. On the other hand, the effects of pets on the elderly and people with disabilities who live in facilities for a long time are highly evaluated, as their conversations and smiles increase and their facial expressions improve when they interact with dogs.🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶😻😻😻😻😻💖💖💖💖💖💋💋💋💋💋

@@Axqu7227: animals are like humans, just nicer. don't comment if you don't know what you're talking about. Animals are a whole lot nicer if you've actually seen them around other species. Be sure to give your Lab a good supplement for bone and joint support. Talk with your Vet and research for the best. It is worrisome. Please kiss your Baby for me.

Ideally the person who bred your dog should've gotten an OFA score on both parents but if not I'd probably ask your vet to check so that if there's a problem you catch it as soon as possible. And keep your lab in good shape, extra weight is bad for the hips and joints.

@@strashnayavedma9674 as a breeder myself, you encounter (and report) many shady people, asking them is not a safe option because they will say they tested everything just to sell the dog. We once bought a puppy and immediately vet checked even thought the breeder said they did before selling them, and the dog had a bad knee and a very obvious heart murmur. They got in trouble with tha law after that for neglect and animal cruelty. Responsible breeders for the win! (Also the dog is as healthy as possible in a good home now)

@@catiku5969 I've been in pet shops, undercover in puppy mills, run rescue for many years, owner handled in Great Danes and bred the same, been a pro trainer to this day and so much more so I'm very familiar with a lot of animal welfare issues like this. People selling dogs do very often lie and that's why you must have proof of testing from the vet. You absolutely can't take them at their word! For me it's no vet proof, no sale, period.
