Simon is probably top 10-15 tough guys all-time and number 1-2 for a few years. He beat Brown 2x to staple his reputation and Pounded Probert once. Also Tkod Brashear in AHL and Brashear for the most part avoided him in the NHL. Didn’t appear to love fighting later in his career and appeared he did it to stay in NHL and make that check. Don’t forget he could play a bit patterning his game after Probert. Scored career 29 Goals in 2000.

He also had a couple big wins on Domi. He had issues though, alcohol from what I understand. I followed the Avs in their early years, and that fight with Probert, where he pounded Probert, changed the series (it was during the playoffs): the Blackhawks were manhandling the Avalanche up to that point and it went 180 after that fight. He had a few serious stick and skate incidents late in his career and that was the end for him. He was insanely talented and strong as a fighter, and he did have a scoring touch: He would often be put on a line with Sakic, and he would score goals.

It never surprises me that they fall on hard times. These guys beat the absolute piss out of each other.

@@misakiyoshida It has less to do with that then it does in the loss of structure when they stop playing. Hockey is one of the most structured sports there is, even in the youth leagues, and these guys grow up with that as part of their life and then one day it is gone and they are left trying to figure things out on their own for the first time. Not trying to take away personnal responsability in any way, it is just a massive life change that some deal with and some do not. For comparrison, Brendon Shannahan was not an enforcer, but he fought allot and had 95 career fighting Majors compared to Simons 102, but Shannahan had guidence and transitioned from a tough guy on the ice to the director of player safety for the National Hockey League and is now president and alternate governor for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

You’re wrong he was able to put the puck in the net when he needed too he had a season where he almost scored 30 goals in a full season, pretty good for an « enforcer of that era »

@@thepapamercy4534 He was suspended eight times for a total of 65 games. He tried to cut Jarko Ruutu foot with his skate and carved Ryan Hollweg's face with his stick. He could put the puck in the net, I give it to you but there's a lot of players out there who can do just the same without putting other players on the ice in jeopardy. The man suffers from Chronic Trauma Encephalopathy. Even before he joined the NHL, he was an alcoholic who couldn't control his emotion. He earned more than 15 million dollars during his career but now has filed for bankruptcy. Hockey is a beautiful sport of action that doesn't need enforcers. Today's hockey is a much more interesting sport than it was back then. While there is still a few idiots that play the Don Cherry style of goon hockey, the league has successfully gotten rid of most of them by changing the rules and naming a prefect of discipline. If you don't like that, change sport and watch the UFC
