The man does well playing with a band, and can hold a steady beat. He's done more than I ever will with his drumming, and I respect that... with that said, he can't solo any better than I can. That was hard to watch!

I didn't even say I was never a fan of his. I'm a drummer who learned to play his stuff when I was younger. I'm 50 now and have played for 35 years and have literally heard thousands of drummers, so me knowing what to watch and listen for am more inclined to know what I'm seeing and hearing than people who aren't drummers or musicians. I understand losing ability as I've lost some myself. I respect the fact that he's done as much as he has with his ability. He's done more than me for sure.

Look every musician has there own style and ability.I've seen unbelievable street performers play music and most were self taught.I think it's all about timing,if you go back thru rock history most musos will tell you they were at the right place at the right time..I couldn't see Dave Weckl playing for ACDC,not saying that he couldn't it's just a different style of music. If most musicians had the opportunity to play with a famous band they'd sieze the opportunity.Goodluck to him.

I've read that Chris Slade is back in the fold with AC/DC. Well at least for the Grammy gig anyway. And after that, we'll just have to wait and see. The one thing about being the drummer in AC/DC is that you're not allowed to let loose and exhibit your skills while doing a concert gig. Nope, that space is left open for Angus and his guitar. But then again, if you're chosen to be in the greatest band in the world, which drummer would care anyway?

Chris Slade blows Phil Rudd away... Not just in terms of skill, but his experience with other bands. As for the critics out there... in 2010, Chris would've been 63... See how well you play when you're that age (if you even play at all).
@freepressright10 жыл бұрын
That's a very general statement. Blowing Phil away in what respect? Phil is a master of groove. His complexity is in his simplicity. Try to accurately cover a wide array of Rudd's material. While the beats are basic, the style is anything but. It requires great attention to detail. While he didn't play complex fill rolls, he's a timing machine who has NEVER, EVER had to play in the studio to a click track. While I recognize Slade's skill and respect it, his timing was awful during AC/DC Live at Donington. He was all over the place and everything was rushed. I liked some of his work, but he was totally the wrong feel for that band.

Slade is too stiff for ACDC and cant play in the right time to save his life. Rudd has the loose groove that gives them their sound and his timing is spot on every time. Sorry but Rudd blows Slade away in ACDC.

@nazzare79 You DO NOT have the "seat time" that Chris Slade has. How dare you compare yourself to him! Where you in Manfred Mann's earth band? ...Where you in Bad Company?....... ARE YOU GOOD ENOUGH TO DRUM FOR AC/DC? I don't think so. just because his solo sounds simple does not mean he is. He is one of the BEST time keepers in the biz! so is Mick Fleetwood! Please do your homework, and learn how to keep time before you pass judgement on a drummers solo!

By the way, what does 63 have to do with it? As a drummer you can see that he hasn't the faintest clue as to what rudiments are, timing, groove, etc. This was a single stroke disaster at any age. Not sure why fans gets so defensive. I was only stating truth. I actually take my hat off to the guy for making the most of his life with the limited talent he has. I don't hate the man personally, but someone has to be better and someone has to be worse. He's not great for a pro, fact.

Sure took you long enough. I was expecting fans to come rushing the mound way quicker. There's a difference between being a fan of someone and that someone being talented. In relative terms this guy sucks. But I can't be upset with his fans. Hell when I first started playing drums as a kid I thought Peter Criss was Buddy Rich. Of course now I realize he's below average in terms of pro drummers. Watch Donati, Coleman, Suchermann, Harrison. Do you even drum? I hope not with that response.
