This song has been stuck in my brain for 40 years. And I still love it.

Mel Collins is a brilliant saxophonist. I really enjoyed his work with King Crimson. Speaking of King Crimson, they had just broken up in 1974, which is why Bill Bruford was free to do other stuff, such as playing on Chris Squire's solo album in 1975 and touring with Genesis in 1976.

Chris Squire loved to sing. He & his friend Andrew Pryce Jackman (who performed on this album) both sang in the St. Andrews Church choir as schoolboys, which imbued Chris with his love of singing. It was Andrew who encouraged Chris to take up the bass as an instrument. While Chris had a rather deep voice, his falsetto sounded really good with Jon Anderson's raspy tenor voice. This album illustrates why Chris never fancied himself to be a lead singer, as he had nothing approaching the "control" of his voice (vibrato) that most lead singers present habitually. But he had a "nice" singing voice & it just seems to have fit in nicely with his other musical inspirations on this solo album.

This is my favourite song on the album, the underlying keyboard rhythm, Bruford drumming and the foreground bass together make a great combination. The title of the song is in reference to the time sig used, which of course was Squire's preference; to use odd and/or changing time signatures.

Chris was musical genius and one of the major reasons YES was so great!🤩

All of us Yes fans loved Chris and miss him. Until his death he was the only player to appear on every album. I consider this as much a Yes album as many of their more recent albums.

It's COOL, feelin' LUCKY, confident, determined & a bit COCKY groove! YEAH ! Chris' vocal tambor is so nice and matches Jon's for harmony like few others. Only family members in a vocal group come close. This is a special album in Prog World so it's sad & unfortunate that Chris never did another LP

Such an incredibly brilliant album. Of all the solo albums done by Yes members when they were still in the band, this is by far my favorite.

I remember a high school friend got this album before I did. He called me excitedly, going on and on about how "It's jazz!" I think it was this song that gave him that vibe, although in reality it's just Chris doing the singer-songwriter thing again on steroids. In some ways this song reminds me of Jaco's first solo album, and I'm sure Chris was listening to that plus Weather Report, etc. which no doubt had an influence. Re: Bill's drumming, he became noted in drum circles in the mid 70's for his use of this particular trash cymbal, which was literally a cracked cymbal that he pulled out of a trash bin. Check out the song "One More Red Nightmare" from KC's 'Red' album for more.

NIce....Liked the sax inclusion. I hear Alan Parson's "Eye In the Sky" keyboard part, so I checked influences...and Yes is one of bands listed.

a long standing mystery ( for me) solved: Me Oh i had an easy question, Is Chris Squier the Squier of the Fender guitars? ChatGPT Chris Squire, the bassist from the band Yes, is not the "Squier" associated with Fender guitars. The Squier brand is actually named after a company founded by Victor Carroll Squier, who started making violins and violin strings in the late 19th century. Fender acquired the Squier brand in 1965 and started using the name for a line of more affordable guitars and basses in the 1980s. So, there's no direct connection between Chris Squire and the Squier brand of guitars. The similarity in the names is just a coincidence. i used to think "some electric guitar virtuoso named Squier had a custom Strat given his name"

Chris' bass work on this album plays a role like no other bass playing I've ever heard. And Bruford is so perfect for this album. I prefer this album over every Yes album without Bill.

What is Bill hitting to make that crashing sound that sounds different than a high hat or any other typical cymbal? Is it the kind of cymbal that has little loose-hanging metal pins or something in it that rattle?
@katskillz

Sounds like the same trash cymbal he used on King Crimson Red. Quite literally a trash cymbal, it was recovered from a trash bin and repurposed for the KC recording.

... a veces se olvida la enorme capacidad de disociación rítmica entre lo que Squire toca y lo que canta, paradójicamente segundas voces muy agudas contra su rickenbacker.
