I am a bit older than Chris and can confirm he is absolutely right. I grew up in south London in the 50s and 60s and you didn't see homeless people. I was brought up in two different council houses. The rent was cheap and the quality good. We even had front and back gardens. I also remember the NHS doctor visiting our home when I was sick. Since then there has been a massive transfer or wealth from the poor to the rich. At the very minimum we need a wealth tax. At the maximum we need a socialist revolution.

@annenunney9907 I agree, however, I agree with Chris when he points out how Jeremys refusal to push back on the weaponisation of antisemitism, his continual ceding to this, contributed to not only his own demise but to that of any Palestine supporting members. I recall being incandescent with frustration at his weakness there. It never made any sense whatsoever and was an immense wasted opportunity. Criminal even, because had he pushed back and shown the weaponisation and zionism for what it was the lives in Gaza today destroyed and ended by this blatant zionist genocide would not have occurred. I'll never comprehend Jeremy's behaviour on that; I value him, I value him dearly, but on that, on allowing zionists to win, on that I am forever dismayed.

1:16:14 I went to a rally in Hastings when I was supporting Labour under Corbyn, I was the last person that got to speak to him before he got rushed off to get the last train similar to what Chris Williamson describes here. He was more concerned about listening and speaking to people than focusing on the train time, it was one of his staff that kept trying to rush him otherwise he was missing that train. Man of the people. Let's hope Jeremy listens to Galloways call to unite forces!

I'm an ex Royal Navy Falklands war veteran and was raised in N Ireland during the 60s and 70s. I voted for the 1st time ever at GE2017 aged 56 after I'd joined Labour when Jeremy became leader. I'm just one example of what Chris is describing about inspiring non-voters. Yet the people in control when I joined still insisted it was a 'waste of time' trying to get non voters to vote and in my case i joined the party and campaigned like it was my full time job. I used to say to them ' so don't you want my vote and should I leave the party?' It sounds like madness..... but it's actually a ruse. They don't want the non voters and the mentality they bring. Because those people would expect honesty, democracy and accountability - in my opinion the very reason they didn't vote before because there was none of that. So the incumbents preferred easily led and exploitable sycophants. And so the line was parrotted ' don't waste energy on the non voters cos they don't care that's why they don't vote' even while we were sat there in front of them! Voting Labour😂 It's called 'gaslighting' I believe. A familiar trait of the devious, inadequate and weak narcissists who typically head up political organisations. I helped organise Chris coming to Plymouth for his Democracy Roadshow. It was magnificent. The right wing in Plymouth tried all they could to scupper it. Unfortunately, for them, they are so far up their own backsides that they judge people by their own standards and so they underestimate the experience and ability of others who don't look and sound like them

Excellent podcast. Great discussion about potential ways forward. I believe the Muslims can align with the political left to create a “justice” or anti-oppression, anti-war front which defends the right of ALL people. When it comes to LGBT, people should keep their sexual orientation preference to their private spaces. No one should be allowed to force their preference on others. Let us make the public space safe for all.
@dec3142

I think it is unhelpful and inaccurate to state muslims want to "punish Labour" or "teach Labour a lesson." It is surely more accurate to state muslims, and all humane minded voters, want to "vote for humane minded candidates where that humanity extends not only to our home nations but to the broader international acts in the name of peace, justice and equality."

It's only really the "religious" section towards the end of this video, and its implications, that I take issue with. Religions are frequently WRONG about so many things, that they think they are RIGHT about! (Evolution being just one out of many examples. 😏) And as a neopagan, I would respectfully remark that MONOTHEISTIC religions tend to be totalitarian belief systems, largely BECAUSE they only believe in ONE god (no room for others!) And that ONE god is always right! According to them. 😏 As I am also a socialist, I don't believe in the kind of "identity politics" which trumps class politics, or is a substitute for class politics. That IS a problem for the modern left! However, NB: I, as a lifelong leftist, do not believe that RELIGION, or religious prejudices against groups with certain lifestyles, are an answer to ANYTHING. 😏

I agree with the concept of both a grassroots party/protest movement, and the Workers’ Party. However, I cannot reconcile my support for the plight of Palestinian self-determination with George Galloway’s shameful views on the Russia and Ukraine conflict. Deeply unsettling, and tantamount to being an apologist for Putin. The Western powers and de facto military force, NATO, have in part contributed to the nightmare in Ukraine, but that is not the same as bending one’s resolve and principles to become a sop for Putin’s Russia. One has to take a balanced socialist view based on all oppressors being called out, not supported or condoned.

(In Marxist theory) a transitional social state between smashing Capitalism and the realization of Socialism. You can have Socialism without necessarily becoming a Communist State, not that there is anything wrong with Communism if implemented correctly. China is a good example. Chinas' economy is more massive than the G7. Russia is really, now, a Socialist State, on the right side of History (doing what is morally correct). Z "socialism is the first stage of the worldwide transition"

you know, IF ALL of the anti war, socially minded LITTLE parties coalesced into one party for THIS coming election, we would have a GREAT chance of having quite a lot of seats in parliament. now THAT WOULD be something worth joining forces for. it would be not unlike a 'proportional representation' kind of arrangement as ALL would have a say, but more importantly, ALL would be against these CONSTANT wars and CONSTANT upward moving of our nations wealth into the hands of the rich and greedy.
