I have best results with around 10 to 15 yards between my Garmin and the target. The bow doesn’t actually have to be close for it to function. I have shot over mine with the Garmin at 50 yards and target at 60. It is useful to know my bow speed and KE at different distances. I was thinking of making a video on it , just haven’t had the time. Great video Chris! Love my LIFT and my Garmin!

The garmin works off radar waves rather than light gates like the old one, the waves come through the back plate like an invisible flashlight and, whilst its more like a flashlight with throw rather than like a pinpoint laser beam, having the projectile pass through the centre of the beam will help it to pick up the arrow. Because the beam is projected out the back of the device it needs space to "see" the arrow in flight in order to calculate how fast its moving so having it just off to the side or under where youre shooting with a decent space before the target will help it get the best detection. Most of the firearms guys Ive seen using it have it a meter or 2 off to the side pointed at the target so that it doesnt get caught by the muzzle blast.

I know it's faster on camera to use a handheld scale, but people know they aren't accurate right? It's a "close enough" measurement because the force that you use to pull it back adds to the actual resistance measurement. You should really test draw weight in a draw board with a proper scale (e.g. LCA Bow Scale 3.0) to determine the true draw weight of a bow.

80lb bow just to get ibo speeds lol
@MarkValascun6 ай бұрын
That’s what IBO is tested at tho isn’t it? 80lb and a 400 grain arrow? If you read the comment on the last video an old engineer explained that companies will run no fletching, no peep sight, no string dampers and off a machine a HEAP of times and give their sales team the single highest reading. His setup runs IBO speed consistently with a ‘normal’ arrow? But if a difference.
@josephporfido24335 ай бұрын
@@MarkValascun Ibo is 5 grains per pound of draw weight, 31" draw, bare shaft and no string accessories. His arrows were only 351 grains on an 80lb bow, well under 5 grains per pound. I understand Ibo speeds are somewhat unrealistic but I get 320 fps (10 under Ibo) on my bow with 70lb, 30" draw, and 356 grain arrows. Some bows are much closer to their advertised Ibo speed than others
@MarkValascun5 ай бұрын
Yeah… (i thought IBO is 30” draw?) Chis’s draw length is NOWHERE NEAR IBO, he still has a peep, d loop and string dampeners and he’s reaching IBO speed. If he had a 30” draw and no string accessories I recon he’d be up well above IBO. And as for your situation, go to an arrow speed calculator and put in the 30 or so grains for your peep, loop and string dampers and I bet you get 320 fps. Even before mentioning I’ve seen somewhere that dyed strings are SLIGHTLY heavier than traditional black or white strings. Not sure how true that is but if true, could be a factor in Chris’s situation.
@MarkValascun5 ай бұрын
@@josephporfido2433infact, I just threw in your specs into a speed calculator. 330fps IBO, 30” draw, 356 grain arrow and assumed 25 grains of string accessories puts you at 320.7fps. So you IBO is dead smack right. If you shot barestring and a 6 grain lighter arrow you would LITERALLY GET 330fps. So your bow manufacturer was 100% correct with their IBO rating. Most bow manufacturers are pretty good with their IBO’s.

Left this comment on your last vid hope you can see it on this vid. Need some advice man, I live in the city but Ive always been attracted to hunting and fishing. My parents aren't big in either and they've always told me know to owning a pellet rifle or any firearm, and even bows. There's an archery range right by my house and for years I talk about how sick it would be to get a compound bow and take it to the range. Turned 20 yesterday and I told them if I could finally get a compound bow and surprisingly they said yes. But now that I got the okay, Ive been debating it solely because of city living. Live in socal and there aren't many bow shops near me and I am not to knowledgeable about building my own setup. I feel like I wouldn't get to utilize the bow because of my location. Thoughts?
