@@cgavin1 You make it appear as if he's cheating in some way - that using modern modelling technology is a betrayal (assuming that's what he's actually doing). To me this negates the myriad professional guitarists who get phenomenal sounds from 'chips and diodes'. Perhaps some sort of double-blind test to see if the differences between technologies can be determined might be useful: I believe one or two people might just have attempted it on KZbin.

I have been fortunate enough to be able to purchase some of my dream guitars, in particular a 58 Les Paul that I absolutely love. My favorite go to guitar is my very first electric I owned, a 96 Epiphone Les Paul Standard. I have never picked up a Gibson Les Paul that can compare to the feel of my Epi. I replaced the pickups and pots a couple years ago and love it even more. If the guitar vibes with you, then it is the right one.

I bought a new Les Paul standard in honey burst back in 1991. I chose it out of 6 or 7, it was the best sounding. Others also had tried it saying, it sounds great but I want a burst/black one. At the moment I had paid it a guy came back saying, I take this one despite of the colour. I said, you're too late, it's mine. He even came to one of my concerts and wanted to buy it from me... I changed the pickups to Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio PAF replicas (can't remember the brand, never looked inside again). I have been playing it for 31 years now, it's my guitar, it's got my sound, it's been my voice, I would never trade it in for any other.

Very interesting. You may know it, but LP Goldtops with P-90s made a lot of music history as well, maybe as much as "Bursts." To take a perfectly good, say '54 Goldtop, and do anything at all to it is, IMO, a terrible sin. I think that most vintage P-90s sound better than most vintage HBs anyway. I have both, and I go to my GT far more often than to my 'Burst. No comparison as to current commercial value, of course, but I really don't give a crap about that. I got them both when they were "affordable" to mere mortals. I'm just their custodian and will pass them on someday when I can no longer make music on them. You always sound great, inspiring, whatever you're playing. Thank you for all of that. Oh, and I say "ZEE", too.

@@Ndlanding I am not sure if you are trolling, but the price of an authentic gibson les paul '59 sunburst is in between 300.00$ and 500.000$. The cost is not so much related to the components and overall quality of the guitar, for that sits at about 3000-4000$. What you are really paying for is the history of that instrument, its connection to a very important piece of musical history. With a fake, no matter how good of a fake, you don't get that and therefore if it were priced as an original you would be paying a very large sum of money for something you are not actually getting

I think Chris is an amazing guitarist even tho I’m not in love with allot of what he plays. Which given I like the same type of music as him and given that I like his tone is weird. BUT that being said I take more from him then any other guitarist on KZbin. He’s so melodic which I’m totally not. Allot of times I’ll try to play what he’s playing or at least bits of it as a warmup and really puts me in a different frame of mind then my usual. So when I say that I’m not the hugest fan of some of his stuff I’m also actively trying to play more like him so I guess that makes no sense. What I mean is that if I could flip a switch and be my ideal guitarist it wouldn’t necessarily be him. But what I perceive as his biggest strengths as a guitarist I also see as my biggest weaknesses so I learn so much from him

Interesting, the world of copies and replicas. I have a Tokai Tele, and 2 Tokai strats, all of them as good as or better than any Fender I've played, So I have a lot of faith in Japanese Tokais. Never managed to grab a Burny or Greco, also highly regarded, though fairly rare in the UK. Personally, I'm not bothered about how close to the original it is, but how nice a guitar it is. Like my 1974-vintage CSL 'Les Paul' - Japanese made complete with screw-on neck, it's not much like a real Les Paul - but it ain't half a nice little guitar, and all it cost me was 2 week's wages. Still, as others have said, the magic is in the player's hands, and I'd have a lot of trading up to do to match Mr Buck's.

Tim Shaw was the first to try and replicate the original PAF pickups. He worked for Gibson in the late 70s through 80s (not sure of date he left). They tasked him with developing a PAF style pickup and he largely succeeded, al- though Gibson did not allot enough money to acquire original spec wiring and other materials. But he made do with what he had and today, his pickups from late 70s-mid 80s are worth serious money. I have an ‘82 LP Custom with them and it sounds amazing, the best of four I’ve owned and as good (though different) as the original ‘54 Custom i bought in 1964 for ... ready for this? ... $125.00!!! Sold it in ‘68 for &400.00 to buy an ES 345, which was and still is (wherever she may be) the guitar I always wanted. Such is life ...

Japanese guitars are fantastic, especially the Les Paul ones. I own a few and they are as good or better than alot of Gibsons. The attention to detail is so high and never any flaws. The are priced at a cost we can afford. I do love Gibson guitars but the prices are way to much these days, I think Japanese builders put alot more time and effort into there craft and it shows. Great video Chris nice playing, and that is a super cool guitar.

Just when you think Chris Buck couldn't possibly better last weeks effort, Friday rolls around and he does! As for the guitar, if Chris can make it sound like that - what's to improve? Personally I'd put a Greco sticker over the Gibson to give credit where it's due.
