Thank you for this thoughtful review . I find it disappointing that the sponsored influencers ALL found it acceptable that LMNT behaved in this way. That statement about 3rd party testing was there long before they disclosed the maltodextrin info, so either they lied about testing or results. I've unfollowed them all for choosing sponsorship over integrity and will happily stick with water that only carries the salt, magnesium, and potassium I put in it. I'm over companies "failing" in this way and continuously being excused for those failings.

I agree it seems to be a repeated issue. I think many people are under a contractual obligation to say good things, and I don’t blame them for paying their bills at all. I know me unfollowing them probably means nothing to them, though. im just a simple Aussie girl with no influence. It is disappointing to hear those who are sponsored by this company actively go into damage control to diminish and dismiss concerns of people who have experienced issues or spikes with LMNT. Some even told people that if they disagree with them on this, then they should not be following their channels - so disrespectful! My immediate thought when I heard all of this was that they have industrial recipes that dictate, by weight, now much 'natural flavoring' goes into each batch of electrolyte powder. They knew the 'by stick' measurement of maltodextrin in their 'natural flavoring' far exceeded 4mg long ago and chose not to disclose. I appreciate you pointing out how many times they repeat how much testing they have done and continuously do on their product. To claim ignorance at this point is quite a stretch, in my opinion. I have issues, in general, with FDA and certifications for manufacturing. The FDA is not about transparency or health. Labels have been misleading since their inception. Natural flavors should never be a term used for ingredients as sugar is a natural ingredient. I think things should change for industry standards as to what is acceptable (apparently small amounts of arsenic can be ok at times). I also don't think you should call something sugar-free or zero sugar if you are using a substitute that most likely turns to sugar in your system- stevia. There will always be margins of error when it comes to mass distribution of any product. It is disappointing that this happened, but it will be telling how they address this and what all they do as a company to remedy this.

I hate it when manufacturers hide behind semantics to make their products appear to be something they’re not. “Flavor carrier” versus ingredient? The FDA allows a 20% margin of error in reporting information on ingredients, calorie counts, etc. So you know those calories are being fudged. What if instead of maltodextrin it contained a similar amount of arsenic? Transparency dude.

Today, knowingly I avoid anything that has "natural flavors" as that term in itself is sketchy. For example, Phillip Morris & all the cigarette manufacturers have in large part turned towards the food manufacturing industry to hire people to appeal to the consumer addictions now of food as opposed to tobacco. That Sir is a rabbit hole to deep to dig here😳 Soon....yes SOON...we all will witness a shift in making America & the rest of the WORLD healthy again!

Regarding the magnesium malate content listed at 60mg, it would require approximately 499mg of magnesium malate powder to achieve the 60mg stated on the package. When I research magnesium malate powders available for purchase, I see that a typical 2.5g serving provides around 300mg of magnesium malate. If this aligns with what’s used in the product, then the maltodextrin content, potentially up to 550mg, would indeed exceed the amount of magnesium. I haven’t yet reviewed the potassium content, so I’ll need to calculate that separately. This gives a bit of insight into the component amounts and how they contribute to the total 6g packet weight.

As I stated in your other video when you took the SALTT and made it into a YOOHOO drink, I bought it, tried it yesterday and within 15 minuets I was in the bathroom with the worst diarrhea I've ever had. It felt like I had consumed a colon prep drink. I looked up the ingredients and discovered the magnesium chloride they use causes the diarrhea. I had even used more water, 24 ounces and it made no difference. I thought that maybe if I add less of the mix to more water it would make a difference, it didn't. The diarrhea continued on till the next day even after I stopped drinking it early in the day. So I will take the LMNT with a microscopic trace amount of maltodextrin over screaming diarrhea any day of the week. I bought mine from Amazon and it was not returnable but when I spoke to customer service and explained why I wanted to return it they immediately refunded my account and said for me to dispose of the product. I don't use any of these drink additives to get my minerals. I have always chosen to get my minerals in whole form, not just a handful, but all of them. I've been a mineral freak since I was 55yo, and I'm now 70. But, I can tell you that I do not blame LMNT for this, rather the manufacturer, who showed them the COA (Certificate of Analysis). Whether there was a 3rd party or not, when you partner with someone, you assume they are giving you the right information. So, the 3rd party is to blame. I mean, can you imagine having to go behind someone you contracted with to make sure they are telling you the truth? I'm sure this wasn't a fly-by-night testing company. Has anyone thought about equipment malfunctioning? Or humans malfunctioning? Actually, you would be shocked how often this happens. I was with a supplement company a couple years ago, they had the COA. Although some users saw results, many did not. So, the owners decided to take it upon themselves to find another testing facility....and low and behold, nothing was going to dissolve that capsule. YET, the manufacturer had the COA, and it was 3rd party tested. Maybe the testing was originally fine, but maybe along the way, equipment wasn't doing what it was supposed to. There are sooo many scenarios that could have happened. Before anyone nails LMNT to the cross, we all should step back and understand equipment isn't perfect, testing isn't always perfect, humans aren't always perfect.

The SALTT page is linked in the description and it gives full transparency, as I stated. And as the whole point of the video says, the amount has nothing to do with my issue. Right is right regardless of how much maltodextrin that does or doesn’t equate to, no exceptions.
@lindamatyas552613 күн бұрын
But even though the maltodextrin doesn’t raise glucose, it does raise insulin. So if you’re doing any kind of fasting for weight reduction, for instance, this rise in insulin will prevent weight loss for that period of time. If you take the LMNT at mealtimes, then this would not be an issue. Just a thought.

I just started watching and just wanted to share I buy whichever electrolytes I can afford on disability income, & as of late its been LMNT because of finding it on ebay and able to use PayPal pay in 4 plan, yes LMNT might have that one ingredient but sometimes it comes down to other factors for me in choosing, I prefer the Orange flavor in both saltt and LMNT because they don’t seem to cause me problems with heartburn, but keto chow doesn’t use PayPal, I also like body armor iv , but also expensive, could make my own but hard to get exact ratios right. I first heard about this through Dr boz and then carnivore quest addressed it and I'm still not buying LMNT because of the cost. I refuse to spend $45 for a box of electrolytes when I get more magnesium out of my evening pills THEN I do in a packet of salt. I was planning on trying their chocolate line when they came out this year but knowing there's maltodextrin in it and how detrimental that is to me and how that's probably going to make me want to crave I'm not going to do it. I heard the story that they were duped by their supplier whether it's true or not remains to be seen but I'm still not going to buy it

Great video, I think you highlighted some really good points. One thing that I think should be highlighted(even though you say it's probably not important) is the amount of maltodextrin. I take supplements. many of those supplements are 250 mg, 300 mg, 500 mg, per dose. You don't need a massive dose of a supplement to make a change in your body. Anyway, I don't take LMNT, it seemed too expensive for an electrolyte product, in my mind.

From what I saw from another content creator, who is pro-LMNT, LMNT was who found out about the larger amount of maltodextrin by doing 3rd party testing and posted it. In other words this whole controversy came up from them trying to do the right thing when they got more information. Take it with whatever grains of salt you care to (pun intended 😁). For what it's worth, I use SALTT, so I don't have any skin in this game. My only concern is that they're being punished for trying to do the right thing, so what example does that set for other companies?

I cannot figure out what it is…I could NOT finish the large package due to the off-putting flavor I tasted. So I switched back to LMNT. I agree with some of the issues that LMNT needs to update their website…to be better transparent. I wonder if they made a switch in their flavor carrier vendor? And that they tested the earlier vendor’s product when developing their marketing materials and website??? Hoping that time will tell.

As someone who (& on a much smaller scale) worked with someone in the vape industry years ago, dealing with flavorings.... LMNT knew all along what their flavor carrier was & how much was used. From day ONE, it's part of the formula workings pre-sale & post manufacturing. ALL that info would be on those testing & COA papers. Imho, someone (at LMNT) either misspoke about the 4mg when being called out about it, OR worse.. hoped to make it seem a much smaller/trace amount. Either way, kinda shady. That said, I do give them huge props for trying to do the right thing & come clean. For some reason, the whole thing still sits wrong with me.

Very good presentation. However, as the final producer of the electrolyte, it is LMNT’s responsibility to know what is in their products. Having worked in industries that have produced items for final consumption I understand that the final producer has the responsibility for its products. The industries that I worked in produced items that had a much larger impact on the end consumer, so maybe we were a bit more careful. But I agree that their clams are certainly ringing false. BTW, I worked in automotive manufacturing, oil refining, and aerospace (think B-2 stealth bomber).

Chris the problem I have with the whole thing now is that they came out with two different "excuses". If you go watch Nick Norwitz video and see the direct response he received from LMNT they told him that they made a "math error". They made it sound like they knew all along the true amount but they made an error when they reported it originally. So basically they're giving two different stories on the one hand blaming it on the natural flavor company and not having full disclosure from them. And on the other hand saying they made the math error. So at this point we have no idea what the truth is. Anyway you look at it it's all shady on their part in my opinion. Personally I have no skin in the game because I don't use their product. I use SALTT and Redmond Relyte.

@ChrisCookingNashville Of course not. I didn't mean to imply that it does. I'm just pointing out to folks that they can make it themselves without any additives and add their own carb free flavors if they are so inclined. A lot of folks are put off by the price anyway, and making your own can cut the serving cost to pennies. I bought LMNT once, but I won't again. Whether LMNT knew or didn’t know there was maltodextrin was in the “natural flavors,” my body doesn’t process it well. I took it daily for 3 1/2 months and now I have a lot of issues related to my liver that I need to deal with. I thought it was due to the stevia, but now that I know there was a LOT of maltodextrin in the product, it could be due to that, or a combination of both. I have to have another blood test this week to see if the anomalies we found 8 weeks ago are coming back to normal. I only purchased LMNT because so many of the health influencers I follow all use it and promote it, and I assumed they had done the research and deemed it safe. Even if they did, they had no way of knowing about the maltodextrin until now. It’s just really disappointing. You think you’re doing something good for your body, only to realize it’s quite the opposite.

The real crime is not the maltodextrin its that they are charging you $1.50 for a packet of salt and flavor. This costs them maybe $0.01 at most. A bit of an excessive markup, don't you think?
@ChrisCookingNashville12 күн бұрын
I agree it’s expensive but for the convenience I’m not surprised. I can’t say what it costs to make between the materials, the packaging, the marketing, the distribution, the legal elements, staffing, and a lot more. It’s usually far more expensive to do this type of business than most people think. I don’t fault them for their price so much as for their marketing that claims diligence I don’t see them doing.
@veronicaheaney346410 күн бұрын
As I have personally been mistaken in reading a decimal place, and I worked in scientific areas for many years, I can see where this could have happened. However, when this “error” became apparent, I agree that they should have been proactive in letting the public know what they have learned. I do use LMNT and like it. I’ve tried others but decided on LMNT because I liked the flavors. I will try SALTT because I’d rather not have maltodextrin if possible, and there are other things with natural flavor added that I use at times that may also contain maltodextrin since it’s probably the most common flavor carrier used, as it’s the least expensive. I would rather not be taking in several grams per day after adding it all up.

Actually, the LMNT product is exhorbitantly expensive when considering its salt, magnesium, and potassium, all of which are easily acquired from reputable sources inexpensively. Most of their flavors were good and they made drinking enough fluid easy and a taste treat. When Dr. Ken Berry said it was a problem except for the unflavored (they sent me a sample of unflavored and it’s not appealing) I called them and canceled. They complied with my request.
