I’m a physician, this story is important as a lesson in capitalism and honesty. Making excuses is just making excuses. For those involved in medicine you will every day have to deal with honesty vs making money and dishonesty. I don’t need to worry about the grams of carbs in an Oreo, but if something has a sugar in it in small quantities that is promised as not, then that is a major issue. We as doctors decide every day how much and what to disclose to patients. We hopefully make that decision differently for each patient depending on the situation and the relevance for that person. If a label on a medicine, or a product doesn’t have the basic information, yet it is known by the manufacturer, we consider that extremely problematic and dishonest. It is not the manufacturer that should decide relevance, and making excuses for the company is not a good look!

I only bought the raw version. I believe this doesn’t have any maltodextrin (per the Rob Wolf letter). Those mentioning suing, I believe is ridiculous. If you used the product and had negative health outcomes, I would imagine you would stop using it. Unless you had dramatic health problems that you never suspected to be from these electrolytes🤔. Our society has become so litigious that that becomes our go to. The impact for most was negligible. The issue is the honesty, like Nick said. If this situation breached your trust, then don’t buy the product anymore. But if the apology was something you determined to be heart felt, and the product is still cleaner for you than other electrolyte products then you may want to continue to support this company. No doubt that it was a breach of trust.

I honestly had no idea that anything was going on with LMNT. That being said, I’ve been having a severe reaction to the product. I started using it in the beginning of May and all seemed fine. I did a full elimination of all foods except eggs, beef, chicken and seafood for 30 days. Keto began after the 30 days and I was feeling great. I slowly added one food at a time (all keto) and I started to develop awful sores in my mouth. It got to the point where I could barely breathe, my throat was closing and I honestly thought I was going to die. Once again I started to strip away all foods I had slowly incorporated but the problem persisted. As someone with celiac disease I avoid many foods anyway but this was entirely different from anything I had experienced before. After a few days of not using LMNT I decided to give it another try. Immediately my mouth started itching and then the sores came, I couldn’t breathe and it felt like a giant splinter was in my throat. I called the company, explained my situation and asked if they could send me an exhaustive list of their ingredients so I could figure out what was going on. They told me that they couldn’t do that because they have “secret ingredients” and don’t want anyone copying their recipe. That was a bit disappointing because I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on their products. They did however offer to send me 4 boxes of the plain packets and that was that. Now I’m left still not knowing what my issue was. The woman on the phone suggested that I could be allergic to stevia. I just read today about someone who is allergic to maltodextrin!
@christinelamb11672 ай бұрын
It could be the maltodextrin causing your symptoms, but it might be the citric acid. I finally figured out what was causing my gums to burn, swell up and turn red. It's citric acid! I've tried multiple brands of electrolytes, hoping to find one that didn't cause a reaction. I figured out it was always the flavored ones. I then tried plain electrolytes without flavoring, and I got no reaction, yay! Looking at the ingredients, I realized plain versions don't contain citric acid. I went back and tried flavored versions, and immediately my gums started hurting! I stay away from citric acid now in anything.
@MrWiseinheart2 ай бұрын
@christinelamb1167 so this was news to me not all citric acid is the same and most of it is made from corn or even worse GMO corn 😳 and it goes thru a mold process, look it up it's crazy. If it was legit real citric acid made from lemon or other acidic things it would be a different story.
@maidenminnesota12 ай бұрын
First of all, it's not "L.M.N.T." It's "LMNT = Element". I don't think the reaction is over the top enough. What brought all this to light was when a person, who was aware of a maltodextrin allergy, had a severe allergic reaction to the maltodextrin in LMNT, but didn't know where it came from because it wasn't listed on the packaging. That person could have been spared a potentially dangerous medical emergency if the company hadn't been hiding the ingredient from consumers. They're just lucky that the worst case scenario didn't happen to their victim, and yes, that person was a victim. Every ingredient, no matter how small the quantity, needs to be listed on ingredient lists PERIOD!

I used LMNT(element) for over two years. Loved the flavored packs but also started to notice I had achey joints and felt puffy. Could have been too much sodium, Maltodextrin or stevia? Idk? Stopped the electrolytes…the aches, pains and “swelling” went away. My advice is to just use the unflavored packets. That’s what I will keep on hand when I feel like I need a boost!

When it comes to a health issue, with all the diseases people have, no company that makes food or flavoring should be able to hide ingredients by proprietary labels. Every ingredient should have to be declared.
@Alice-xw7qu2 ай бұрын
All processed foods or health products that are meant to be consumed in any form, should have a complete label of ALL ingredients. This is for the person who may have a severe allergy reaction to a certain ingredient, those who are insulin resistant, as well as pre diabetic, diabetic or any other condition that could be affected by consuming even the smallest amount of an ingredient. People who need to lose weight are usually insulin resistant to any kind and form of sugars; this also applies to those who are pre diabetic or have diabetes. Consuming any kind of sugar in any form will make it much harder and all but impossible to lose the weight to get healthy. Maltodextrin in LMNT is a sugar; it become glucose once it's in the body. So is Allulose, etc. If it originated as a carbohydrate or is manmade, your body will naturally turn it into a sugar.
@wisdomandy93612 ай бұрын
The problem with this is that it's really hard to find companies that offer niche "health" products as it is that you're forced to not trust any popular product because you probably arent being tood whats actually in the product. Trust with companies is a big issue, especially in our niche community.
@luchiayoung2 ай бұрын
The people that were and are pushing this are just as guilty because I knew, and I was trying to get the word out at the beginning of most pushing this, and I was bullied. You can test for sugar in a drink with a glucose test stick. You can concentrate the drink and test it. Also, copied from web Another way to test for glucose in food is to use Benedict's solution, which is blue in color. If simple carbohydrates, like glucose, are present, the solution will change color. A low amount of simple carbohydrates will cause the solution to turn green or yellow, while a high amount will cause it to turn red. Did any of the professionals or people that were pushing this product with all the people that were complaining and bullied, did any of the professionals test this? They sure were pushing it.

My problem is, it’s a neural exciter, more commonly known as an excitotoxin. It’s a form of MSG. It crosses the brain barrier and it stimulates brain cells. This signals that it “tastes” better than other electrolytes. Thus buy ours over others. This loosely could be a “flavor carrier”. I call bull crap on this. My tongue tastes perfectly. This is extremely “dodgy” as the real purpose was to covertly secure a larger market share by using a form of MSG to excite the appropriate cells into thinking “this is way better stuff”, via influencing the human brain. I can’t believe people fall for that “flavor carrier” line. It was to get a larger share of the market. Not by what is to be believed to be the best ingredients in the human being’s needs. Just now was going to order some tea products with natural flavoring and the company would not answer my question of what was in it. Very disappointed.

The problem is people avoid products with maltodextrin for health reasons. Some have medical conditions such as diabetes and avoid maltodextrin because it increases blood glucose levels. Their omission of maltodextrin in the ingredients list has led to people using their product to the detriment of their health. This IS a big deal. The videos that minimize the maltodextrin content are ridiculous. It is not "just" a trust issue, they have impacted people's health.

I don’t want to unknowingly consume maltodextrin. I will not be repurchasing these. They’re pretty expensive and it’s not worth it, to me. I don’t like the “bad math” excuse. Sorry, my own opinion.

They lied. End of story. I dumped all mine - going with a newly trusted brand of plain electrolytes.
