Nice little upgrade! I realize now that the Joystick ports are using the standard mod, and not using the Pi at all. Great device! Now if I could only find a raspberry pi... I guess the video slot connection does not really do anything except mount the board inside
@ChrisEdwardsRestoration2 жыл бұрын
It has some chips on it and holds the switches, ribbons and the pi stuff too
@10MARC2 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration I was thinking along the lines of the actual connection to the CDTV video slot. It does not grab any signals from there does it? I think the slot just uses it to hold the whole thing in place.
@ChrisEdwardsRestoration2 жыл бұрын
It gets power from the connector to the motherboard and i think thats all. The ribbons do all the magic to the internal chips

The DB9 ports are technically separate to the RGBtoHDMI functionality. The DB9 ports are just hosted on this board and connects to a separate mouse/joystick adapter.

Hey Chris.. haha so fun, I was thinking of installing my RGB2HDMI Solarmon v2 for my CDTV this morning, but I didn't have the headers installed on any of my RPI Zeros so I skipped it as I didn't felt like soldering today, doing it for work tomorrow or so, so can just as well do it then. So fun! 😂 But really awesome to see your video, see the result and well your talk as always, love it! ❤

The CDTV remote control you have is a 252594-01 with joy/mouse button and power button with top bottom plastic for accidental turning it off. I also have a 2nd revision 252594-02 which the mouse/joy is a switch which swaps the power button to the left so no more accidental powering off the CDTV

Great vid as always Chris 👍🏻 Nice to see what is possible with the CDTV 😉 So you now have a mouse solution. I take it the next thing on the to do list is a Keyboard solution? I take it you didn’t want to source an original CDTV mouse and keyboard for your setup? I don’t recall the Mouse/joy button having any effect using the original wired mouse back in the day 🤔

So that's why my mouse is flaky and works intermittently. I didn't know you had to use the remote to switch it either. I just got lucky with the cdtv enabling it if I changed my kickstart and ram switches!

That’s a slick module. My A2000 RGB2HDMI has the 3 buttons too. Labeled the same. Only one of the buttons on mine works. And it’s just single button operation. Click, short press, long press. :/

You probably need to change the config to tell it to be in 3-button mode.

I have bought another CDTV. Had one back in 1994/5 and I sold it! regretted doing so ever since. Now I have another one, I am going all out and upgrading everything. Got the RGB2HDMI, Pi Zero, Kick 3.1, custom CDTV roms and a TF536 CDTV edition. I am currently debating whether to buy a Brickette adaptor at the moment! I would rather the mouse just works off the bat instead of having to faff around. I had a brickette back in 1994 but cannot remember if I had to faff around with the remote or not?

Trying to track one down now. Maker is still considering making more. Fingers crossed. Did that UK CDTV power supply have a switch for 115/230? Or is it automatic?

The really strange thing is that the RGB output monitor seems to be one frame SLOWER than the HDMI one. It must be an issue with the monitors as you'd think the analog RGB signal would add zero latency vs. the RGB conversion.
@ChrisEdwardsRestoration2 жыл бұрын
i think its due to the right monitor not being in the proper frame type, the left is in proper 4x3 whereas the right is in a 16x9

There so crazy expensive now (I only paid £100 for my one (bargain), and it came with Everything. Cheeky question I admit it, but the prices they are now I can never justify buying one.

No audio over HDMI?
@ChrisEdwardsRestoration2 жыл бұрын
No, any rgb2hdmi is just that rgb over hdmi, audio is a seperate circuit.
@MonidethPen2 жыл бұрын
A separate HDMI audio injector is required if you want audio in the HDMI stream. The RGBtoHDMI CDTV v2 board has headers for the L and R audio, but is not used for anything.
