Okefenokee 3 Night Adventure; Floyds, Big Water and Mixons Hammock

Another great trip to my favorite place on earth. If i can help anyone in planning a trip, y'all just holler. This video is dedicated to my big brother, Chuck. I will continue to do the best I can to live the adventure!

Hey man I'm just finding this video and your channel a year after this one was posted. Your brother's advice in your closing was spot-on. In 2021 my brother and I along with a couple of friends did four days and three nights on the Suwannee River. The day after we got home our dad died unexpectedly. The serenity and relaxation we had experienced over those four days went a long way toward helping cope with such a sudden tragedy. I thank God that he gave us such a beautiful planet to enjoy.

This was an absolutely beautiful video. But Iʻm sorry to hear that you lost your brother. His message to you is so true. My dad said something similar when he knew the end was coming, and yes, living without him has been incredibly hard. But I think about him whenever I have an adventure with my sons. Itʻs all we can do.

yes, there are signs with a canoe and the mile on them. the hard part is if you miss one it REALLY messes with your head until you see the next one! i had a round about time it was taking per mile and knew when i should be in the vicinity of one so i was paying better attention.

@@ChrisFunktheFeralOne Yeah, you need to keep time on miles, and use a compass. Avoid paddling off course for an hour.

it is 8 or 9 miles of paddling, but remember, a good portion of it is into a slow current. then the turn into the narrow canal is interesting because depending on water level it is narrow enough that you can't put your paddle fully sideways in a few spots. that part of the paddle is about 1/3rd of the entire trip so be prepared for that. we averaged about 2 miles an hour loaded down, but got seduced by the beauty and catching a few fish so it took us from morning till sunset..... it was our own fault though, when i am taking pictures and catching fish i have a HARD time quitting LOL

Yes, but only to the day use areas and less than 10hp. The overnight chickees are paddle only.

I've been there a couple of times. Did a little fishing without much luck. You seem pretty informed about the swamp. I wonder why there's no bass or big catfish like a flathead or channel cat..etc.. maybe due the water pH or the stained water..I have no idea. Anyway, good luck with your channel..a great way to make memories.. sorry about your brother.

thank you, it has more to do with the PH of the water than anything else from what i understand. on the sill side, i found a pile of channel cats in a deep hole and caught a pile of them on a jigging spoon of all things! in all of our years of fishing there, i have only seen 2 bass caught in the swamp proper, the rest have all been on the sill itself. i can't wait to get back down there!

that is across the island from where i came and left floyds but looking at the layout i am almost positive you would be going with the current, just like if you were gonna head back from floyds and go past minnies big water. that little bit of current is very helpful and so peaceful to float along with!

Probably to mixons hammock! It's an island so you can have a little fire and close enough so you can still fish and explore after setting up camp!

Thank you. A buddy and I are thinking about doing a 3 day 2 night (kingfisher-maul hammock-big water-Stephen foster) but after seeing your video I though I needed a shorter backup plan starting from Stephen foster. Fishing looks great can’t wait to go with my brother there

On closer examination, isn't this shelter just for day use or overnight by scout groups? Normally you aren't allowed to camp there right, or you just mean camp on the island. @@ChrisFunktheFeralOne

@samueltindell8753 no sir, mixons is 2 miles out on the end of billies lake and is one of the normal camp spots. There are only 2 camps that are on islands, and not chikees. I like both though!
