I've only just noted that you draw the way that I used to, with a clenched hand. I was 'persuaded' out of it. I tried doing that again - over fifty years later - and found that I couldn't. You use the grip you're comfortable with and produce beautiful work. I've developed an essential tremor during the past few years, robbing me of the sheer enjoyment of drawing. This has led me to having to experiment around, yet I still have lost the control I once had. It just shows. Some teachers are pedantic in following hard and fast rules, as if you don't follow exactly the rules, there is an unforgivable breach of decorum.

My fave's the last one! I've recently just got onto (I'm assuming for now) the right track on my artistic journey. I've always been distracted with different media to express my thoughts (i.e., one moment I'd think creating a comic would be great for my story, then I'll think I'll create a game then after that, just write a novel afterall) but now I've realized that what I actually wanted, what made me love art, was to simply illustrate stories. It doesn't have to be in comic form, in novel, or whatsoever. I want to be an artist good enough to tell a story from one image. Right now, I'm reforming my perspective in art and just practice the hell out of me, observe and absorb as much as I could from other artists while creating my own. I hope that one day I get every vision I have into my canvas. As simple as that but I've spent a lot of time learning new crafts that are different from what I initially wanted. Ending with subpar quality illustrations. I feel like I neglected the important part for too long, and I somehow regret it. Although, don't get me wrong, learning them wasn't a waste, I'm also glad I've experienced doing them. Thanks for this video! This makes me glad that I'm not alone in this kind of situation and that there's a lot of time left for me to be doing better.

I love the girl with glasses! :) I actually kinda like clowns, because similar to you, my mother had a lot of glass doll clowns on her shelves and as a kid they always looked so cute!!! I had just finished a circus piece a few weeks ago, but your clown stickers are so adorable that it makes me want to do more circus characters and more with the environment now! ^.^

Personally, I'm not a big fan of heavily made-up clowns because I feel if I can't see someone's face and true emotions, I can't trust them. For the same reason, I also am very wary of mascots, amusement park characters, and people in masks XD My friends and family tease me about it all the time, lol. But I love _your_ clowns! They have really cute trustworthy faces! I loved that you spoke on this topic, as I feel it is something all artists have to ponder often. I personally think that if as an artist you do what you love to do really well and keep on your personal track, then the right opportunities will pop up. Knowing what opportunities are worth taking in order to stay on that path is the hardest thing. Especially when lots of them aren't necessarily bad things to do, they just aren't building blocks for what you ultimately desire. I always love to see the pieces that an artist has made of their personal compulsion. I'm a sucker for sincerity, even though the other stuff is fun too :) You're doing amazing work, Chris!

Man. So much of this speaks to me. I’m also an artist and KZbinr and my channel is one of my highest priorities but I keep taking on more and more and more than I can actually handle and I’ve worn myself so far down that I’m physically and mentally able to do so much less. I’ve done cons and whatnot IN ADDITION to my normal schedule, rather than making healthy room around my schedule for it. I’ve started making classes on Skillshare IN ADDITION to my normal uploads and it’s making sitting at my computer to edit feel more and more intimidating and stressful. I’m not taking enough time to not only rest and refill my tank, but also to make healthy time and schedules for the things that I really want and *need* to do. For me, your video really came at the exact right time because I’m struggling with a really big depression right now in addition to loading on the stress of meeting my upload deadlines this week. I’ve been debating taking a super small break this week and maybe next week to actually work on just Skillshare (that’s my bread and butter so it needs to be the non-negotiable) and.....I kind of feel like you’ve given me that final little sliver of..... approval. Saying it’s okay to prioritize and maybe take a step back if you’re taking too many steps all at once. Thank you. Hope your con goes well and is worth all the ridiculous amounts of con prep stress cuz gosh....the con prep problems are REAL. =>.

My earliest memory is when I was 5. I also REALLY loved pinocchio and clowns. My very very first dream in life was to be a clown. My mother when she was younger had been a rhythmic gymnastic pre-olympics but she trained me to do cool tricks with yo-yos inspired by her training and she took me to the circus in town almost every day that whole summer. I remember on my birthday the main clown/host let me ride and play with his favorite elephant as part of the performance and it was the most magical summer of my life. I thought of owning my own circus or being a contortionist and one of those pyromaniac performers but I ended up getting too into drawing to follow along with that...and I don't even draw clowns habitually...Ah well! ^u^ Your artwork makes me so happy I just used an emoji I havent used since I was a preteen! I can't wait to be able to buy merch from you.

Oh my gosh these are fantastic, I love the third one myself. I struggled with this for 20 years doing weekly craft fairs so when I retired I promised myself a couple of years to discover who I was now and where I wanted to go with my art. At 71 I’m just having FUN. I am doing a small market in Dec but sharing a table with a friend so I don’t end up with all that stress again. Maybe that’s the answer for a lot of you. Gilly x

i see u with your fancy magic transition between stickers. But yes, TOTALLY relateable. Hearing you talk about these dumb brain struggles too makes me feel less like a crazy person. I had a similar Art Crisis this past week about retrying to figure out my goals and also the things and ways i like to draw. It's so easy to look at other peoples art that have a following already and go "should i be doing that?" for you, people are following you because we like your art work already so you should do what you like to do , because we're already here for that.

Not a fan of clowns as an adult, but I do love your set. Very fun and colorful. I think I watched the movie Poltergeist and IT (both from the 80's) at a young age, and since then slowly hated clowns. Wow the topic for this video is extremely relatable right now. I'm actually currently prepping for a con and feel so overwhelmed and anxious since I want to make new merch like zipper pouches, new buttons or stickers and maybe even some tote bags. I'm also trying to think of what new items or charms I can make to possibly get more customers. I find that this pressure that I place on myself gets to a point where I'm like "No, I'm not doing this anymore" or I get extremely nervous in thinking "Oh my, what happens if none of this even sells!" I want to try to figure out what my true artistic goals are now, especially after listening to this. I feel like I lost track on what my goals really are; especially when I have to sometimes always think "Okay, what is the new thing to make." I wish you luck on achieving your goals and at the convention too~! Btw I like the second to last one, its extremely cute.

I love the ponytail one too and the first one! I have this same problem, and I self-sabotage myself at every level. I remember when I was learning/studying I would draw in straight lines where everyone else was using curves and I wanted to be like them. I wanted to do certain fan art or do topics because they were popular and they never lined up with my art goal so it was a struggle. I still fight with myself over the straight/planar lines when studying or just drawing in general but I'm slowly learning to just focus on what I want. (My self sabotage goes so deep as to second guessing marks I'm making...) It's hard when all the popular artists are doing enamel pins/stationary/stickers and you want to join in and it's just so hard. I'm going to try to just be a hermit for a moment and not look at how other artists do things and focus on me and then come back.
