Cool thing for us non-Japanese speakers to realize while listening to this song is that she's flipping between sounding like a "pillar of society" and sounding like a delinquent. The song is about being fed up with societal expectations. She's effectively voice acting in her songs to bring out those emotions.

Like Chris said, Ado is rock n roll. She's also punk, she's metal, but interestingly, she didn't grow up on that kind of music. She basically grew up listening to Vocaloid music like Hatsune Miku , listening to other singers doing cover versions of Vocaloid tracks, Disney theme songs, and Japanese rock. She's also a big fan of K-Pop. If you listen to her All Night Nippon radio show, you can tell that the way she sings is an extension of how she speaks. When she gets emotional or upset when she's speaking, her voice flips like the way she sings. Hope you get to see Ado live and maybe even interview her about her technique. Keep the Ado reactions coming!

I have to admit, Chris Liepe became my most favourite reaction channel for Ado songs. His analyses are always on point and hearing his professional opinion and break down of Ado's voice is very entertaining AND educating. I learned alot here which enriched my enjoyment of Ado's songs and her incredible talent. It feels like I didn't really knew why Ado's voice had such an amazing impression and effect on me and now I see the reason behind it. Like as if someone knows why a masterpiece of art is a masterpiece not just because it looks pretty for one but also because one knows the difficulty behind the creation of it and how much talent, technic and work got put into it. I often wonder if Ado's voice and analyzing it had any influence on Chris' job as a vocal coach and if he was able to learn anything new from it which he may use in his lessons. Something like that would be really cool.

One thing I love about ado is that she does know what vocal techniques are, she knows the importance of them, but she literally just don't care when singing live, she wants to express what she is feeling, she wants for you to know what is in her heart and mind through her voice, when she is singing, she is just materializing her emotions through her voice.
@AremZzZ8 ай бұрын
Quick bit of context! The video you just watched doesn't just show how good and unhinged her usseewa performance is, but also demonstrates her progress as an artist over time, as this is a recopilatory video of her performing this song in four different tours over the years, I love this video because it not only shows how much she has improved her voice, but also how much more confident she is as a performer, as well as the venues getting bigger and flashier over time

it's funny how metal music isn't mainstream now in Japan as it used to be back in 1980s~1990s or the early 2000s but her techniques are so influenced by metal-ish vocal cracks and distortions and she's one of the leading singers in the current Japanese music scene.

(preface) this is a live footage from her first to 4th live concerts joint together so you can see the scenes changes 4 times. One thing to observe is from the 1st to the 4th concert you can hear how she just lets it go more especially the 4th one, its crazy. as someone who so far has been to all her concerts, the thing I lost the most about ADO is the fact that when she sings live there's always a twist compared to her recording, sometimes its a different mix, different screams or grits here and there and during her latest live she said she tries to convey different emotions all in her songs, ussewa is described as ”Anger" and she really does show it. Lately she has been so much more free compared to before, more movements, more improvisation and like Chris says, shes not always on pitch but she leans into the off pitch so bravely and freely it creates such a cool sound, I do wonder how her throat or lungs works lmao.

I think i've said this before but I think you'd enjoy readymade by ado (though this might just be bias because its my all time favorite ado song) and also faouzia, who uses vocal techniques that are prevalent in speaking arabic in her singing to create some stunning vocals, and she also has an absolutely WILD vocal range :D anyways another great video, I'll be looking forward to the next one!!

i had goosebumps all over and almost had tears in my eyes on the last part where her voice totally went "unhinged", like "anata ja wakaranai kamo ne. ah tsumaranee, nankai kikaserunda sono memory" actually means "for you, it might make no sence at all(because you're too numb/dumb to understand)). ah it's so lame/boring how many times do you have to make me listen to your memories(by memories meaning all that nonsense you're showering me with)" and the last line "dou datte iize, mondai wa nashi" means "it doesn't matter to me, there's no problem at all(because i don't care less)" and the way she ends the song with that shouts truly gives the sensation of her not caring about singing words clearly but more focused on projecting core feelings or emotions. i think the technique she's using is somewhat similar to how metal singers sing but how she's utilizing it is almost like listening to emo/screamo style vocal.
