The reason why Ado got so emotional during her live performance with Hatsune Miku is because she's been a big fan of Miku for an extremely long time, she even started with covers of various Vocaloid (the technology behind Miku) songs. Not only is she on a big stage in front of thousands of people, she's living her dream here, and that was enough to break her, causing that weeping voice to come through. Truly beautiful.

Since it appears that this is your first encounter with Vocaloids, the TLDR is that Vocaloids have played a huge part in improving the Japanese music industry over the past decade. Yoasobi's Ayase, Giga (who co-wrote Odo and Show) and Kitani Tatsuya are just a small handful of music producers who started as Vocaloid producers, aka VocaloP. What's unique about Vocaloids is that these producers can stretch the "singer" beyond human limits because they have infinite vocal range, they don't have to breathe and they will never have issues with annunciation. This started a cat and mouse game with the Utaite, singers who sing Vocaloid songs, including Ado. They take these virtually impossible songs and try to successfully sing them. Now you have this pool of ridiculously skilled singers that train through Vocaloids. Ado has a deep love and respect for Vocaloids and VocaloPs and not only are a lot of her covers Vocaloid songs, but a lot of her original songs are written and produced by VocaloPs.

The entire video I was thinking that he would have understood the sentiment more and see how much this song means to Ado. She was actually crying while singing the song live. She mentioned in a video that she had prepared for this for 4 years, to be on stage with her inspirations to do music. That why the song talks about time traveling, because she has dreamed of doing this since she was young. It's about seeing someone that you admire and see as a stars, worked steps after steps hoping one day you would have worked hard enough to be with all the people you looked up to. And she did it, works with people she respect deeply herself and perform with her idol.
Yep! And the vocaloid tuner on this song, Mitchie M is also an insanely talented tuner/music producer. Especially their song like FREELY TOMORROW and Ai dee. They tries to tune Miku's voice bank to be as accurate as a human being as possible. The first time I heard their music, it absolutely made me shocked at how good it was. They even made the singing have breathing sounds!

Calling the blend of Ado and Miku "Big sister and Little sister" is a sentiment that I feel would make Ado unbelievably happy to hear. Before her music career she composed songs in the earlier vocaloid software with Mikus voice so in a way Miku is the big sister that may have inspired Ado to be who she is today.
@SinceroOdio2 ай бұрын
It is even reflected in the covers for her new single, where one version of the single has Ado as a child, and the other version has her as a grown-up, next to Miku.

Pretty sure that it wasn't one of the goals she set for herself, but I would assume that it's still a dream come true to perform a song with Miku, who played a huge part in making her love music and set her on that career path, in front of such a big crowd. Definitely adds another layer of emotions. Not only did she sound like she was crying a bit at different points in the performance, there were also times where she sounded like she had a bit of a lump in her throat, but she worked around that pretty neatly imo.

Just before this song, she talked about how negative and passive she used to be, but how she got her dream and became a singer by listening to vocaloids and singers using a small video game console. Sadly, after the song, she had a conversation during the MC session in which she expressed her feelings of being hurt by the vitriol directed at her from those who did not care for her. She has been severely slandered many times in Japan. She has continued to do so because she wants to give back to Vocaloid, and because she hopes that even just one person in this venue will be like her when she was a little girl. She is still young , I support her 100 percent.

I'm commenting twice to just say that I really appreciate how open you were to the concept of a vocaloid as a vocal coach/singer. Many people who react to vocaloids tend to really bash on them because it lack the 'human' part of the music in vocals. The fanbase for vocaloid (including mysel) can be protective over the genre due to the claim that it isn't 'real music'. People often forget that humans still make everything else and that it's very much a multi-media artistic pursuit. The intersection between music, art, cover, animation, etc all come together with the genre. It's one of the only genres where full creative stories have been told through song series as well. So thank you for being so enthusiastic and interested in it! I'd love to see how you interpret voice banks in the future
@NovaShards_Scarlett2 ай бұрын
Also, humans are the ones tuning the voicebanks, and the voicebanks themselves are voiced by real people (who were paid for it)! It’s almost like lending someone a voice when they can’t use their own in a way they’re not able to to share their stories and creations and stretch the limit on human capability

I'm really happy you discovered Miku ! A massive star in Japan (you saw the crowd in the live^^)..... When I was in Japan, in april 2024, I saw posters for her 17th birthday even she doesn't exist physically..... Japan is strange sometimes but beautiful ! One of the best duo Japan can give to us.... Sakura Biyori & Time Machine is one of my top 10 ado songs now !... The live was very emotional (we saw this in the public, tears all around the place). Ado was almost in tears too during the live (I think that because of what I hear in her voice in stage)..... That's because the young ado, when she was unknown in Japan at 15-16 years old, she was inspired by Hatsune Miku (and others vocaloid). Being grateful to a virtual singer when you are a massive faceless star in your country..... Only Japan can give us this legendary duo..... That's why I was very emotional when I saw the live 3 days ago..... By the way ado will do another world tour, the hibana one, between april and august 2025.... She will be in 33 cities for 22 countries.... And she will be in my country, in France the 25th June.... I hope I can get ticket !!

Vocaloids came out around 2010 as a kind of singing voice synthetizer based on someone else who would put their singing voice in the voice bank. It was an alternative for producers and bands that didn't have a vocalist yet or couldn't afford one. Many different "voices", called vocaloids, have been released since. But Miku is by far the most famous and popular one. In japan it created a community of producers (who are called VolcaoidP) that used vocaloids for their songs. There are some pretty famous and epic Miku concerts that feature other famous vocaloids by the same company. They basically use holograms for the presentations, live music, and a pretty impressive light show, just like you saw now. Ado started off as a singer thanks to Miku. She started covering vocaloid songs before launching her professional career. So this is literally a dream came true for her and extremely meaningful. You could hear her crying throughout the entire song, her voice breaking here and there, and yet she kept it professional and continue flawlessly. It even makes it all more exciting imo.

For 23:32 ... I'm just guessing here, but I don't think that she actually ran out of breath. In the studio version Ado and Miku alternate between having solo parts, "true duet" parts, where both of their vocals are equal in volume and next to each other from a layer perspective, parts where Miku does a backing vocals role for Ado and parts where Ado does a backing vocals role for Miku. The moment where you said she got quieter and maybe ran out of breath is just slightly before the switch happens, where Ado becomes the backing vocal for Miko again and I assume that she paddled back her volume to dial in on where she needs to be volume-wise to let Miku be on top of her voice. Also still hoping you might want to make a video of her cover of Annoyance. I actually left a comment on your video covering Shoka, because I thought it would be fitting as she wrote the lyrics for Shoka when she was 16/17 years old and around that time she did the cover for Annoyance, but I guess my comment was auto-deleted, because I put the video link in it since the video is a bit harder to find on her channel. That cover is from 5 years ago and it blows my mind how expressive and free she already was back then. Instead of putting the link, I will leave the video title this time in case you want to have a look at it. 【オリジナルMV】邪魔 歌いました【Ado】 On a last note, I congratulated you to 500k subscribers on that deleted comment, so I will just do it here again.

And vocaloid is a software, so they have no limit in making crazy music, composers were not afraid of breaking rules, making crazy arrangements…which I think it is why Jpop is always so astonishing and amazing. The most famous one for you guys might be Kenshi Yonezu, namely Hachi as a super famous Vocaloid composer before he debuting as a soloist. If you never heard about him, he is the top male soloist in Jpop these years. If you would like to check out Hachi, what Kenshi’s style looks like when he was 20, I hugely suggest you to listen to Matryoshka. Which you can already see very strong kenshi style and crazy skills

This also why people growing up with Jpop and the Japanese have such emotional attachment with Miku, the most widely known Vocaloid idol, because this is where Jpop had blossomed with all these wonderful music. I believe Ado is also one of the kids growing up with Miku, and other Vocaloid music☺️ ps. Miku is introduced in 2007, and isn’t even the 1st Vocaloid idol, so it is barely a new trend🤣

I literally saw Miku live in London last Saturday 😅 It's a very surreal experience. In a way, Vocaloids are basically the tech implementation of vocals as literal instruments. However, the fascinating part is that it didn't lead to a loss of humanity in the music. I know music producers who started using vocaloids as I guess a crutch when unable to provide vocals themselves or getting a vocalist to their song. Now, they produce songs for vocal talents ( like Ado ) Or are confident to sing themselves. On the vocal side you had fans covering songs that used vocaloids. Now they sing for those producers in place of Vocaloids. Literally human replacing tech. Reol for example. In the past used vocaloids. Didn't show her face or sing herself. Gradually she she went from that to now going all out doing everything AND still regularly collaborating with music producers from the past

There are many sides to this. There are many performers, songwriters who, due to age or health, cannot perform themselves, Vocaloid gives them the opportunity to continue their creativity

I think I can attest the reason as to why Ado is on another level is because she grew up singing vocaloid songs where the composers had the vocals doing humanly impossible things. She had to match up and she did.

as others have said, Hatsune Miku is a computer software, that was made by sampling a singers voice, and tuning it digital. Producers make Miku sing by plugging in words, and adjusting/placing the pitch and tone that you want her to make, kinda similar to how you make sounds with virtual instruments. You can kind of think of it as the beginnings of AI voiceover. She was HUGE back in the mid to late 2000s all the way up til now, and she let a bunch of indie music producers give a voice to their songs. ADO started her musical career by covering a lot of Miku songs back in the day, and that's why she was so emotional on stage. without Miku, its possible that ADO would've never even become a singer in the first place.

You should do a vocal analysis of tokyo cannibalism! Her voice in that song is just a rollercoaster of pure craziness, definitely will be a great video

so... you didnt knew vocaloid yet? its a software that make the computer sing, you tell what syllables you want it to sing and in what musical note, then you do aditional tuning to make it sound more like what you want, and mix it with an song. hatsune miku database of samples of voice (also know as voicebank) is based on saki fujita voice. Ryo from supercell was one of the first to master hatsune, making incredible songs back in the days that we didnt had too much stuff that sound good (even when the music were good, they sounded muffed), he helped her explode in popularity. this music was tuned by mitchieM, he is make great musics, but in this case he didnt made the music, but the tuning(adjustments) of miku voice , he is great at making she sound more like an human being, sounding more realistic, i love mitchieM tunning but i also love when miku sound robotic. miku had a lot of relases changing her voice over time, many people like the new versions but many preffer the old ones who sound more artificial. another thing that a few artists do (including mitchieM ) is adding breathing to miku, making her "pull air" to sing, despite being an robot who dont need that, this help her sound more alive.

Another great Ado reaction, I love her music so much! Please keep doing these! I'll just leave this here in case you are curious about her song titles. Japanese pronunciation is super easy and the vowels never* change no matter the word! A as in br(a) I as in fr(ee) U similar to f(oo)d E as in (e)cho O as in Camb(o)dia *they sometimes are shortened or removed but don't worry about it :)
