⚡ / 🔥 😱 🔥 That was a sixteen year old Su-metal with that killer performance, and her voice has only improved since. The song had it's world debut the previous night at the Budokan Red Night concert. "Rondo" is easily in my top ten BABYMETAL songs. Su performed three solos that night. She did 'No Rain, No Rainbow', followed by 'Akatsuki' earlier in the set. There were also two songs with just Yui and Moa (performing as Black BABYMETAL), 'Onedari Daisakusen' and '4 no Uta'. That Black Night Budokan show from March, 2014 is still one of my favorite concerts of all time.

Great reaction to an epic song. It is a very dark song, especially for Babymetal. It's all about Su being trapped in a nightmare, chased by a monster she can't see, running away and trying to hide from it. The quiet part near the end was her giving up and asking only for it to reveal itself to her before she dies. As others have mentioned, this was one of 4 songs SU sings solo. They include this one, Akatsuki, Amore, and No Rain No Rainbow. The other two girls, Moa and Yui have 4 songs they perform as a duo, which are: 4 no Uta, Onedari Daisakusen, GJ!, and Sis Anger. The latter being, arguably, the heaviest song in the Babymetal catalog. Also, when Moa and Yui perform without Su they're called Black Babymetal.

Great reaction! In this video, Su is just 16 years old performing at the famous Budokan arena in Japan. I believe BABYMETAL are still the youngest band/artists to perform there. The Beatles have performed there too. She has such a commanding presence that you forget that she is a tiny girl on that stage, at just 5ft -1inch (155cm) tall. She may look like a tiny mortal, but she is a metal goddess. I read a recent comment that described the lyrics best: She is singing about "a nightmare running away from a monster she can not see...she is exhausted and hides in a well. And she gives up and just asked the monster to show itself to know what she was running from before she dies.". This is one of their darker songs. Of the 50+ BABYMETAL songs, Su's solo songs have more depth lyrically. The musicians are called the "Kami Band". "Kami" means god in Japanese, and these guys are like gods of music. They are all men and are Japan's best musicians. They are wearing burial gowns and corpse face paint because in the BABYMETAL legend/fantasy/storyline, the "Fox God" raises the musicians from the dead and calls upon them to play the music for the girls for each concert. The 3 girls have been chosen by the "Fox God" to unite the world through metal. BABYMETAL concerts like these, especially the ones in Japan, are about 1.5+ hours long, and because the girls go hard on every song, the other two girls, Moa and Yui, use Su's solo as a chance to take a break. Great reaction! 🦊🤘

You would think the concept of Babymetal is unique enough that it could work with a "good" band behind them and it probably would. I mean they started out without a band, had the instruments on a backing track and it worked. But what the Kamis bring to the table is just incredible, these guys are INSANELY talented musicians. When I saw them for the first time I couldn't believe how good they are. This intro will never get old.

The stage is Nippon Budokan, a venue built for the old Tokyo Olympics martial arts contests and since then used for concerts. It is one probably the venue with biggest reputation in Japan, only artists with invitation get to perform there and Babymetal was the youngest ever to perform in. Only a few years before the girls had said their dream was to be able to perform there some day, they were only 14 and 16 Su at that time. Suzuka has 4 songs where she sings solo, and all of them are awesome. Rondo of Nightmare, Amore, No Rain No Rainbow and Akatsuki. You can watch any of them. They had solo songs so the dancers could rest for a song during live concerts on their early days. Nowadays they don't do soloes anymore and there is no resting time for the girls. Some fans don't like it because Su songs were incredible. Moa and Yui also had their own songs.
@MacTaipan4 жыл бұрын
Rondo is such a perfect song. You are right, the atmosphere is pretty dark by BABYMETAL standards, but it has a fascinating haunting beauty to it. And Su is awesome, too. I love it!

The Budukan is an arena setup because it was originally built to house Judo matches. Since then it's been an invite only venue for top Japanese and international groups. BABYMETAL was the youngest group to perform there. If you like Kami Band solos, the following songs have them, so you should find the versions with the intro if you do any of them (sometimes this means reacting to a compilation): Catch Me if You Can, YAVA!, Awadama Fever, and Kagerou.

Great reaction. I think you already have the explanations for Su's solo songs (and Yui's and Moa's duets), who the Kami Band are and why the costumes and corpse face paint, how the Budokan is a martial arts arena (it was built for the 1964 Olympics and is a very prestigious music venue - think Madison Square Garden prestigious) and how they are the youngest average age female band to headline there (and they sold it out two nights running). Likewise how dark this song is - and yes you don't need to understand what she is saying, Su can express all the emotion to get it across. The designs on the stage are to do with the BABYMETAL lore - nothing Satanic (I think only about 1% or less of the Japanese population is Christian, so Satan really isn't something that would figure unless it was used for some sort of theatrical purpose because 'Metal'). More live performances please - you have many good suggestions and links already ... more will follow as soon as you need them.

Lyrically, this is by far their darkest song to date. The original title for this song was called "Kill The Alice". Inspired by Alice In Wonderland fairytale. Only that in this version, she is being hunted by an unknown creature until she finally had enough. She stopped running and asked the creature to at least reveal itself before it kills her. Accepting her inevitable fate which is death. Suzuka was the sole reason why Babymetal was created in the first place. If her voice didnt match with heavy music then Babymetal would've been a spectacular failure 10 years ago. Cant believe she was only 16 when she performed this.

When Su turned 20 in 2017 (20 is considered coming of age in Japan and is a big deal), she was listed in the Top 20 most anticapted coming of age entertainment stars in Japan (includes actors, singers, dancers, musicans, etc). She is way more than a mere Idol singer...

Nice again & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。I love this song and listen to it at least once a day. Kamis' (=Gods') super plays are excellent enough as a main event, but once the 16-year-old Queen emerges from the underground, she colors everything differently and turns Kamis' plays into a ritual to summon her. (Your questions will be answered by other reviewers in better English than mine.)

At this time, the other two Girls are taking a break. In the next song the two Girls will sing. At that point, the main singer takes a break. They say that singing and dancing is the limit of aerobic exercise and is so exhausting that a break is necessary. Choreographer mikiko testifies to this in an interview.

BOH - King of the 6 string bass. Yeah you didn't mention it but he plays a 6 string bass (trather than the more common 4 string). All the Kami band are some of the most gifted musicans in Japan. Only the best for our queen.

Dancing in the dark two meters above a rotating stage, a sixteen year old Suzuka sings of an unending nightmare of being chasd by a Faceless Terror and begging a Boon that it show her its face just once before she dies. That's Metal. Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!

Queen SU and her Kamis. Budokan is one of the most legendary venues there are in the world. To be able to play there you have to be invited to do it, and BABYMETAL did two nights in a row back in march 2014. Next year they will play there for 10 nights to celebrate their 10th anniversary (if not this damned covid stops it). I think it was supposed to be this year, since they celebrate 10 year anniversary now.

Oh yes a worthy follow on.. make sure you do the Live in Japan version. It is the end song of a live concert and damn you can FEEL the audience buzz reacting to BM. This, more than any other one song, explains WHY every BM fan tells you to react to "live" songs. The girls performances rise to a whole different level - there is a symbiotic loop between audience and the girls that just amps up everyone.. These girls were meant to be seen live.

This gig is at Budokan, a stadium that bands play only when they get an invite to! The Kami Band (The God Band - justly named) are all extremely skilled Metal musicians who explore their own projects when not providing Babymetal's music. For another song where they all have a solo as the intro, try 'Catch Me If You Can', the best Metal song ever about playing Hide and Seek. This version has English subtitles too so you can sing along: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJibhpKgZcyjgqs . Also, as you've done a Su solo, you now have to (yes, it is the law) react to a duet from the other two ninja demon angels, Yui and Moa. The heavyAF 'Sis Anger' is a good place to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIuvi5aljL9-hJI

The Kami Band in order of appearance in this video were Leda Cygnus, Takayoshi Ohmura, BOH, Hideki Aoyama. I heard a few times now from other musicians/guitarists that Ohmura is one of the best Metal guitarists in the music business today (Herman Li and Marty Friedman said it for example), not only in Japan. And I don't think anyone needs to say anything about BOH and his monster 6-string bass or Hideki Aoyama and his technical masterclass on the drums. This was only the second time the Mischief of Gods intro was performed. So you can probably guess it only got better over the 2 years it was on their setlist. The same with the other song intros, which were performed more often. A popular other song with intro on KZbin (and the only other one that isn't a horrible confusing compilation) is Catch Me If You Can from the same show kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJibhpKgZcyjgqs . But it's the same circumstances, it was early on, so it only got better. One of the craziest, in my opinion, is the Mischief of Gods from Yokohama 2015, but you can't react to it on KZbin, even if you wanted to do the same song twice streamable.com/b1xu1 . It's definitely worth a watch in your free time. It's the same lineup as Budokan except for the first solo, which is played by the late Mikio Fujioka instead of Leda. The Tokyo Dome instrumentals are really sick as well, but I don't know if they're uploaded somewhere as single performances. The Budokan is by the way an Arena in the Chiyoda ward of Tokyo and was built for the Martial Arts competitions of the 1964 Olympics. It will host the same competitions in the postponed 2020 Olympics. Because of it's origins (Martial Arts) it always has the stage in the middle of the arena. It's legendary when it comes to concerts because it's allegedly invite only. BABYMETAL will do 10 shows in 2021 at Budokan for their 10th anniversary they couldn't celebrate in October 2020.

@paulbenwell35604 жыл бұрын
Yeah to expand back then the girls were young (14 Yui & Moa / 16 for Su) and an hour at those intense levels was alot of work. So they had the idea of breaks. Su would do a solo and Moa/Yui could rest and then Moa/Yui would perform (they had several songs they sung - and are called Black BABYMETAL). Since they all got older and could do a full hour the solos disappeared and with no Yui (she left at the end of 2017) Black BM ceased to exist as well.
