I'm relatively new to spinning fishing, and was struggling to reach distances I need and even if I was able than my hands got tired quickly. However after applying this technique I was able to overcome my expectation with distance 40-45m(Lateo 9'3, 20g lure)on a bit windy days with incredible ease and I feel that it's not limit 👍 Huge thanks Captain, for sharing your experience! Looking forward to more video on this subject!

Great technique. I developed something similar when I was a kid by watching fly fishermen. I didn't know they were fly fishing, so i figured I'd try whatever it was they were doing. So i started with my rod pointed forward, then I'd whip it back, then forward again (gently of course) releasing on that second forward motion. I'm not sure it's a "correct" technique, but I find I'm able to control my distance and accuracy better. I'm also able to bomb casts completely across the river if that's my goal.

This is also my technique when fishing striped bass from shore with a 7 foot fast action rod. What is happening is we're loading up the rod on the back cast so that that extra power is used on the forward cast. It also makes a big difference when the lure weight is matched to the rod you're using. Too light and you don't get any flex in the rod, too heavy and you lose power.

I never knew this method allowed for spinning rods to cast further. I sometimes cast like this just to look fancy.

The fancy part, I'm with ya. LMAO. Didn't know it'll cause momentum.

Thanks for the video. May I ask you which rod you use?

That rod is a Daiwa Proteus

Do you ever worry about losing your bait (provided you are using live bait)?? I see what you are doing and will practice this in the future.
@CaptChrisMyers7 жыл бұрын
I don't fish with bait but I can see where this technique could cause the hook to rip out of the bait.

I wonder if this would work with a baitcaster? 🤔🎣

Do you recommend a 7’ or 7’6 for tossing artificials? I wade fish about 95% of the time. I like the added casting distance with the 7’6 but I find it less fatiguing and easier to work lures with the 7’ What should I use?

I do not find a ton of difference between the two lengths. Things such as the action of the rod, size of the line, how much you have on the spool and weight of the lure have even more effect. I would use the 7' if that is what you like. Fill the spool with the lightest braid you can use for your application. I think most anglers who lack casting distance have line that is way to heavy and not enough of it on the reel. Be careful as the more line you put on, the easier it is to get knots if you do not keep it tight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6GVi5eJoa6airc

What if your rod doesn't really flex that much, and when you throw hard it kind of just snaps back into place and stops your lure mid air??
@CaptChrisMyers2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you have a very heavy action rod meant for large fish. Usually with those type of rods I would be using large and/or heavy lures which generate enough momentum to sail out on their own. I am not quite sure what you mean about the rod stopping your lure. If the bail is open and you finger not on the line, there is nothing the rod could do to stop the lure once it is on its way.

Does the weight of the rig affect the range?
@CaptChrisMyers3 ай бұрын
All things being the same, a heavier weight can cast farther. However, each rod is different, line size, and type, plus how much line is on the spool all play a big factor in distance.

What’s the cast called

It does not have a specific name that I know of.

you also need th correct rod power, a medium will work better than a heavy
