Instead of making several jigs, one for each size hole/bit you can simply stick a piece of masking tape over the area you want the hole. Then place the diamond-coated drill bit/hole cutter on a slight angle and begin drilling until you've created a slight half-moon groove in the glass. Then gradually level your angle until you're straight up an down and then continue till you're through. The tape assists in keeping the bit from skipping all over the glass and is less involved than building a jig...really handy when you can't or don't have the time/space to build and store multiple jigs. Anyhew, just a little trick I learned along my way. 😊😉 Thanks for posting your video...I wasn't sure if I could use the same bits for ceramic tile, now I know. There were two things you did which caused the jagged edges and the breakout. 1. Go slow, you don't need to rock, rocking puts the bit at odd angles and causes it to catch and create a non-circular hole. 2. Stop pressing. Let the drill cut. When you are pressing down as you get to the final bit of glass you are not cutting, you are breaking, since you are breaking it out it looks jagged instead of cut. But I love those drill bits. They work well for how cheap they are.

I had the same kind of bits, none of them were "square" to the stem, so they wobbled, I was never able to get them or the pointed glass drills to drill more than one hole in a piece of window glass without it causing a crack or breaking the glass.

@yunthi6 жыл бұрын
was going to say as well, its what professionals do.flip it if you are using hand tools. bigger companies have a machine that drills the hole from both sides at the same time. ofc you cant do this with bottles but it does make it easier on panels.

Neat! I used a similar method and a slightly more expensive bit to drill holes in granite counter-tops for faucet installation back when that was my nine to five. I like the soda bottle trick. We used to just stop and dribble more water in every five seconds or so.

DO NOT DRILL TEMPERED GLASS... this method is only for Glass. Tempered glass is under pressure and it will explode. To cut or drill tempered glass they use a water jet . IF you don't believe me at least do your self a favor and try it on a piece of tempered glass you don't care about first.

Those diamond core bits are called 100 hole bits. You can more easily start a hole if you hold bit at an angle and slowly bring it down till entire bit it in contact with glass. Been doing this for many years.
@davidgraham26735 жыл бұрын
That's exactly how I start my holes in tile for commercial bathroom partitions in gang bathrooms. I keep a small cup of water to dip the bit in every few seconds. The bits last a surprising number of holes if you don't burn them up.
@davidgraham26735 жыл бұрын
@Phil Weatherley , LOL, may I suggest a hammer? It's my go-to frustration fixing tool.
@extraordinaryactsofglass37435 жыл бұрын
@Phil Weatherley CR Laurence sells them which I order. They are the cheapest of diamond core bits. When you order them and tell them 100 hole bits they know you want the cheap ones. I only use 1000 hole bits which are much higher quality. But the technical name is Diamond core.
@extraordinaryactsofglass37435 жыл бұрын
@Phil Weatherley Some even call them screamer bits because they are thin and make a lot of noise. The small ones not so much but as you get into 3" and 4" they get very loud

The lastglassbender: been out of the business for a few years (after 40yrs) and was actually surprise to see this product let alone obtainable from CRL. The old school way with tripod drill and diamond bit (usually 2" for mirror elect.outlet cutouts) took forever and the bits where not cheap. Nice to see an inexpensive and faster improvement made for all the do it youselfers out there. Appreciate the video including the bottle water supplier and thanks for your angle tip to omit making templates for those with enough experience not to be sliding all over their project. Let me know when their is a bit available from CRL that will work on tempered glass lol!
