Well this was one of those sessions that didn't quite go to plan. My aim was to hit the stream in the woods with the ultralight setup in search of winter chub, perch and possibly pike. But after exploring the woods where the river breaches during flooding I made a surprising discovery and even managed to catch a new PB!

U.K. is getting more like the Everglades these days, with miles and miles of flooded fields and streams and rivers. Overworked drainage systems aren’t coping and the roads are so dangerous. Thanks for the vid.

Goldfish are such crazy animals, the irrigation pond I fish at has tons of goldfish that used to be peoples pets. The biggest I've caught out of there was a 3 pounder with snow white scales, most are orange but I occasionally catch ones that have the more natural bronze scales like a carp.

Nice rescue Chris. It Is still like a giant lake here, as we have had a lot of rain and snow, to bulge out the river. I have seen some very large Goldfish, and Koi carp up to five pounds. If the very big around 30 pounders, and there are two of them don't get then. The mink and the Otters and cormorants will definitely get them. And we have many of those, being a bird sanctuary. Keep 'Em Coming.

Great Vid fella. Did you know that brown goldfish can be encouraged to go back to Gold? I once had some Browns in my pond and I put them in a cold water tank indoors. After maybe 4-6 months they had gone from brown to more silvery and eventually as gold as the ones you caught there. I put them back in the pond and they stayed gold too!

When I was younger there were goldfish in many ponds and side pools beside the river in Switzerland. I went to catch them. Some I put in my pond, some in fire ponds where there were a few breeded rainbow trouts that were to deformed to be sold. But they still had hunting instinct. One goldfish was snatched by the biggest trout when I threw it in. Once the fish reached the bottom they were not attacked anymore. Some Goldfish I caught were huge. More than twice the size of you pb. The biggest, a snow white one lived happily in my pond for many years until it died of age. Once I was fishing in a tiny manmade pond that was built for ambhibians. So they did not want any fish there. To my shock I hooked a small wels catfish. But I could not get it out. The hook was small and the mouth of the fish to big. I really wonder what some people think dumping a baby wels into a pond made for frogs. Those goldfish are not easy to get rid of in bigger ponds. They even dumped a pike in big ponds hoping to get rid of the goldfish. And after a few years the goldfish were gone. But I bet the pike ate tons of frogs as well.

I used to catch big goldfish in my youth, fishing small farm ponds for carp in Kent - I guess people had put the odd few in there years previously. The better/more interesting ones I'd keep, usually just wrapping them up in wet weed and carrying them home in my net on my bicycle. They were always fine! They breed quite easily in the UK, what I didn't realise is that they start off with carp like dark colouring when young, and turn gold when they get a bit older. Or ours do, anyway!
