I live just north of you in NW Ontario. One thing that always blows me away is seeing large pike in small channels and ponds in the U.K. Over here in Canada any river or pond that small has no fish really. Our winters are too brutal to allow fish to live there, never mind big fish. Cheers.

I love these kinds of videos. These conditions are mostly what fishing is available to me. Heavy brush, bad weather, lots of trees. Great to see the perseverance and that it's often worth it! Back in the brush those fish are often not pressured and more responsive to a natural presentation. Great video!

Growing up, I had two small lakes on my doorstep, which my dad and I used to fish. Both had Roach, Rudd, Perch, Tench, Eels, Crucian Carp and of course, Pike. This was when you could still use live bait, so you’d catch half a dozen small Roach and then see if you could tempt one of the many pike, which ran up to around 20lbs. Great place to spend a childhood.

Brings back fond memories of my youth, when my friends and I would go fishing for pike in a beaver pond close to my home. They were never this big, but they were abundant. Mom never let us bring them home. They were not that good eating; boney and tasted like mud. But we enjoyed our selves, and it was a Damm site better than being glued to some silly video game.

Nice big pike Ginger. I'll ask you the same question that I've asked a couple of other YT anglers and didn't get reply's. What happens to all the lost plastic lures and bits ( like the tail of your blue shad ) when you don't get them back? Hmm?? Did that lovely Pike eat it and what is it going to do to the fish's body? We, as fishermen and conservationists want to keep our waterways cleaner and more productive than before and what are you all still doing?? Deliberately throwing plastic into the water?? 🤔 I don't own any plastic lures and refuse to use them. I've only ever used natural bait, polished metal spoons, wooden minnows ( I even worry about the paint flakes coming off them ) and carbon steel hooks. Hand carved wooden lures with no paint still catch good fish if they are presented well and have natural action. And forget about turbid water being no good for lures. Fish have lateral lines so they can 'see and feel' vibrations in the water. Cheers from downunda. :)

That's BEAUTIFUL Pike!!!! I'm 63 and I've only ever caught one on Lake Ontario in Canada when I was about 13 years old. Caught it. Cleaned it. Cooked it. And, of course, ATE IT!!!! The story behind it is CRAZY!!! I hadn't had any experience fishing before this catch. Was in the foster care system. The guardians took us (I was the only kid of color and the other guys were just young, dumb BIGOTS) camping at one of those KOA camp grounds. Woke up early in the morning; took the boat and went to the lake. It was early dawn and there was thick fog over the lake. I had set my rod between my legs and started rowing. Next thing I know my rod seems like it's gonna fly out. In my panic and fear I'd accidentally thrown one of the oars to grab my rod. When I regained my composure (as a first-time experience) I thought OUT LOUD that I was going to "drown" this fish for scaring me so bad. So I used the motor thinking I would drag this fish to death. Obviously, THAT didn't happen. I'll tell you the other part AFTER I finish watch your video.

No, you're not useless. As Dick Walker would say, in order to catch big fish you must fish where there are big fish. This Chris is very lucky finding two ponds that seemingly no one else knows about and they have some nice pike in them. You keep trying with different baits, fast and slow retrieve, up and down the water column, stick at it and you never know! I think he's very lucky indeed especially with the little streams.

FYI . When walking in the woods,I started carrying my rods (1 or 2 pieces)backwards.years ago. Doesn’t get hung on as many bushes ect. Carry all of them butt end forward now. Even when surf fishing on a beach with no bushes and trees. The barometric pressure drops when T’s raining, takes pressure off of fish swim bladders, turns on their appetite. That’s what I was told a long time ago anyway. Rain seems to turn them on for whatever reason. Imagine it knocks a lot of bugs down in the water too. Hey from NC. USA

I can't even describe how much I envy you, just simply catching fish instead of performing one futile attempt after another. In part of Poland where I live, we have a funny situation, since big fish are almost all either: - caught by so called meaters (they eat everything they can and there are enough of those to basically remove all the fish from every water near populated area) - caught by poachers (a true plague in less populated areas and due to almost 0 Fishing Guard presence throughout the country - the risk is minimal). As a result, a guy I know who caught 12 pikes (in the entire season and BTW that is considered a good result around my city) hasn't caught even 1 that would meet the "minimum length criteria" (you can basically take anything above the minimum length) of 50cm around the place I live. Why? All above 50cm when caught are eaten (the meaters are KINDA law abiding). And since we have a daily limit of 4 pike OR zander or trout or eel or asp or barbel, basically a few retired meaters who have nothing else to do can basically remove all predators above limit from a really big body of water. And we basically have no limit for perch, so perch is basically extremely difficult to catch too. There's plenty of non-predator fish (that are mostly considered not-so-tasty), so predators have a lot to eat, unfortunately, predators are mostly considered a delicacy. So we have some of the most barrren waters in Europe. Great success, high five.
