I'd like to be a fraction of a percent as tough as an action hero. I've had multiple broken bones including cracked ribs, both feet have been crushed along with sprains, bruises and bad cuts that required stitches and I can say from experience that even a broken hand would put me out of a fight. That's why I always carry my trusty 45 everywhere I go. If at all possible, a bad guy isn't going to get close enough to me to land a single hit. The older I get the more I feel my past injuries and I don't need any more pain than what I have to live with every day.

I myself suffered the exact anecdote the instructor mentions about boxing gloves and burst eardrums. About 20 years ago I was sparring (without head gear stupidly) and caught a light left hook to the head. Eardrum popped like a blister and required a tympanoplasty surgical procedure to repair. Good tines 😂

My theory as to why Mr. Wick is so resilient and appears to be unaffected by situations in which a normal human would break is because he drank a lot of milk as a kid and has the highest pain threshold in the history of mankind. Ignoring the ending (no spoilers, don't worry), if he were to go to a hospital and the admitting nurse asks him "on a scale of 1 to 10, how much in pain are you?" John would just look at the nurse and say "Two"

True. The first film was supper grounded and the most realistic by comparison. Still.. I do think they did an outstanding job with the fight choreography and cinematography. Like yeah, a blind guy being a master assassin is ridiculous, but the way they shot and choreographed all of his scenes was so good that it almost made it seem kind of plausible despite the inherent absurdity of it. Plus, I think it’s one of those things were if it looks cool enough, your able to suspend your disbelief more, at least for me.

As a martial artist and someone who has been in their fair share of fights. A few things of note 1) adrenaline is a hell of a drug. I've been in a situation where I've taken multiple blows from a hammer to the face and head and not even registered them. Broken jaw, check, eye socket and a sub arachnoid bleed. It wasn't until a good half hour later I even realised the extent of my injuries (I'm trained as a mountain rescue operative unrecognised the signs of an intra cranial bleed) 2) a spinning kick to the jaw doesn't always result in KO, maybe a lost tooth but not KO. It would have to contact at the right angle to knock back into the blood vessels and nerves in the neck to cause a KO or as mentioned the brain contacting the skull. A broken jaw is a possibility, but from personal experience of recieving such a blow, a POd wick is more likely result

I like how you can rationalise every injury as non fatal, I think it's video game mentality that people tend to assume that we're so fragile. I've been doing Japanese Jujutsu for over 20yrs now (I'm getting old 😄) and spar at least once a week with friends that train other techniques and with a little protective gear to avoid pressure fractures and concussions along with a mat I rarely get more than bruises, scrapes or a little blood even with practice weapons 🙂 I thought most of these movies were repetitive and overdone but you're right from a martial perspective they put a lot of research and skill into their choreography and I only noticed that was Scott Adkins when Killa started with the Karate he's really good 😋

Let's not forget the little fact about the cumulative aspect of J.Wick's injuries. Being on a losing end of a fight, after having received multiple professionally executed blows to the body and head from a heavyweight fighter (think being repeatedly hit by a prime shape Mike Tyson), ending up with a spinning back kick (that's a heel in a boot right to the jaw) strong enough to throw a man over a railing into what looks like a 20 ft fall - is guaranteed to render whatever is in that pseudo-superman suit - incapable of any meaningful resistance. Then again, JW movies take place in the magical land of Bolloxia...a special place that the Wizard of Oz kept as a pet project, between playing poker against Rumpelstiltskin and an onstage rivalry with none other than Pinocchio... So, anything goes.

Talking about the throws: ippon is an easy take. On concrete it might suck, been there done that and it sucks super hard, but with no follow up, assuming you know how to take it, you'll probably be fine. And depending on the knot, being dragged by the long bit of your tie is fine. Personally, I would wear a clip on or a velcro tie but to each their own.

Great evaluation. First off, no way anyone can withstand the kind of damage Professor Wick does. However, one thing I would add, is that assuming he's trained in Judo, he would have learned to fall, both forward, flat on your back, and on either side. I studied Judo a long time ago, and when it was determined we were "graduating" from Ukeme (the art of falling), we would ultimately be thrown onto a concrete floor. That being said, no way in hell I would want to try ANY stunt. As for the hamstring, spot on. I have torn, midsubstance, my right hamstring a few years ago, it still is bothersome. Thanks

Ear-clapping... it doesn't have to rupture the eardrum to be effective enough. It's not a fight-winner, but it only needs to disrupt their balance momentarily. If you have a shot at clapping one or both ears, then it should slow the opponent enough to set up something better.
