Very nice piece of equipment! I would raise a word of caution. Please consider a strong (polcarbonate or similar) protection shroud around the inertia wheel. If it for some reason disintegrates or falls off the axle (you never know) at those huge speeds (30k RPM) it can do some nasty damage. Just to be on safe side.

FWIW, I don't know how long I've been using AM32 - I flashed an older BL32 ESC over to well before BL32 supported I think even throttle based variable pwm, so it's a little hard to say where the performance benefits have been. But it has been simply stellar and reliable even for me running on unsupported firmware.

Car people know that it’s all about the “area under the curve” when reading dynos. And AM32 seems to win pretty big vs BLHeli_32 in this regard. Plus I imagine it’s a much smoother delivery of power which means happier gyros with less filtering.
@ChrisRosser
@ChrisRosser Жыл бұрын
AM32 definitely provides a benchmark for how the curve should look. Nice and smooth, no big spike (which could burn something) but lots of torque through the whole rev range. Let's see how other FW compares 😁

Interesting test stand, are you planning to test different motors using this method? I wonder if this test will finally highlight the differences between 2207 and 2306 although I suspect not since its a power test, could be interesting non the less.

i bet that bug won't appear on a smaller load. blheli waits for too long to speed up this huge wheel so it drops the current on the motor for a bit to check if motor spins without current and adds another spike of current to get to the required rpm
@О.Ш-ь1щ
@О.Ш-ь1щ Жыл бұрын
@UCzCG6HrsjDLqJs83a2OO6dQ also I do believe that am32 will have worse performance in 5inch drones sphere because of slower reaction to the signals of changing rpm and will burn all the wires on the motor in a crash or in turtle mode. If you never noticed when the motor is blocked blheli doesn't try to spin it with constant torque, it does it with impulses in such a way: here is your current bro. after a couple milliseconds blheli asks: "are ok bro, do you spin freely?" and doing it over and over again. I do believe that it's a much smarter way than am32: here is your current, pussy! wtf, go fcking spin, here is all the current we have and a slap for your ass.
@ChrisRosser
@ChrisRosser Жыл бұрын
I don't know, a smaller load will accelerate faster but the torque vs RPM curve is meant to be independent of the load or how fast the motor accelerates.
@О.Ш-ь1щ
@О.Ш-ь1щ Жыл бұрын
@@ChrisRosser I do understand, but there is a special propose of the motors and the escs for a small load and high response and you test all this system in absolutely enormous load for such a setup and compares with system for another propose
@ChrisRosser
@ChrisRosser Жыл бұрын
@@О.Ш-ь1щ I do agree that this is a challenging test for the motor and ESC. But the AM32 ESC proves that it is possible to deliver a smooth torque/RPM curve under these conditions. There is no reason to suspect that the torque variability will improve under reduced load, quite the opposite! If the ESC is struggling to apply power smoothly when RPM increases relatively slowly I would expect things to get worse if RPM increases rapidly.

Could even be the reason for mid throttle oscillations
@alkamotors158
@alkamotors158 Жыл бұрын
Not sure if it's low rpm throttle protection related but Am32 low rpm protections are let off gradually and proportional to the kV of the motor. That's why KV is entered into the config tool.

Whatever you're doing it is producing a really lovely looking torque/power curve 😁 Not having those big spikes and dips should really reduce the likelihood of smoking motors/ESCs under heavy loads. 👍👍
@baggszilla

Maybe it has to do with the inertia of the weighted wheel and the rpm telemetry giving specific torque when needed!

Great video! Have you played around the acceleration related parameters (ramp-up power, startup power) to see the effect on both system? They aren't set the same and don't have the same scale on both system so you may have to tweak those around.

I do not think that any ESC doing any of the real current limiting as they do not know what current are drawn on ESC. There are not many ESC that have current sensor on each ESC (FETTEC and KISS and couple of BLHeli_32 like airbot)

Thank you Mr. Rosser for your deepdive to improve performance and safety. I´ve a bunch of dead esc´s too. One of my 7incher with 50amp. bl-heli s is rebooting in midflight , once i´ve seen 0 volts on my dji custom osd , so i´m not confident to fly it now. Can it be that the fettec spikeabsorber or the capacitor is faulty? I´ve flashed it with bluejay and it worked perfect more than 10 flights until this strange rebooting started.
