Interesting thing about this cover was that PTX originally recorded the version with lyrics about the Christmas story that were written by a Christian music group. However, when they were reviewing the album tracks before signing off on them, they decided to go with the original Leonard Cohen lyrics instead. Problem was that they were on tour in Asia at the time and had to scramble to find a studio in Taipei, Taiwan to record in on their day off. Kevin was delighted to be the lead communicator with the Taiwanese engineers in the studio, since he was able to use his fluent Mandarin along with his musical knowledge in one of his favorite professional days ever.

Listen to the live performance on their special! It’s the superior version! The killer here is the last chord where Avi sings that contra bass Bb 3rd ledger-space bass clef! It brings down a flood of overtones. Gorgeous! Oh, and in the live performances there is no doubling of vocal lines!

Well, look at it this way, Chris...the video crew at least can be wearing shorts and T-shirts! I've been in video and TV production for more than 30 years, so I know this first-hand. And I'm from South Texas, so I've done plenty of shoots on 100+ degree days!! I think this was indeed mixed by Ed. It's probably a good thing the drone crew was running late. That last shot with the sunset is one of the most spectacular shots I've ever seen...LITERALLY the money shot!!

Momma sings bass! It's a WHOLE heck of a lot easier with a microphone, that the one aspect I can attest to. Geoff Castelluci of Voiceplay has a really good series talking about lowering full voice range, sub harmonics (fry with chest) and full fry (think Avi Kaplan or Tim Foust blowing out the subwoofer systems at some venues), only something that can be done with a mic for performing. You might want to take a look at that, at least until Chris comes out with his. Some of the Russian Oktavists out there are absolutely amazing if you haven't ever heard a REALLY deep chest voice bass (not frying). A few of them sing full voice notes that don't sound human, and can be heard across a room...THAT requires the right genes and a lot of practice and learning, I expect. Hey Chris, there's another cool collab if you could ever get him...you'd feel like you were back singing beside Tim. :-)

Gonna be honest with you here, Chris (always am, but just to highlight) putting people at physical risk or even extreme discomfort, like wearing a turtleneck and coat in extreme heat to make a Christmas album, doesn't seem to be a the best of choices. I realize nobody, in this case, was probably in any physical danger, but working at Disney as a 'kid' I saw many people, and not all of them older, that required emergency medical attention for so called 'heat exhaustion' or 'heat stroke'. And by required medical attention I mean a few of them were non coherent and some barely responsive. The first sign anyone else knew about it was when they hit the pavement in a few cases. The extreme version is idiots literally killing themselves while making a stupid (in many cases) YT video. You guys are obviously way to bright to risk anything like that, but just something to keep in mind. In 'Pentatonix in the desert in multiple heavy layers' case, the real issue was hydrate, and if you start feeling anything abnormal, abort, assess, and address. Yeah, probably overboard, but just something to keep in mind if sketchy situations arise. Obviously people can get injured in normal risk activities (like one of your dancers, say) and that's not what I'm talking about. I'm just saying sometimes people don't adequately think about the risks involved, exactly like in the case of turtlenecks and coats in basically a desert environment. Just something not always foremost in mind that should be in there accessible at least somewhere. Hopefully they were drinking and taking breaks out of all that 'gear' occasionally, and would have sense enough to stay hydrated. I know Disney was very careful about it. One obvious example was the heavily fully costumed characters standing and walking around like Pooh, Pluto, Baloo, etc. They, as I remember, did 20 minute sets, and then spent significant time hydrating, resting, and enjoying air conditioning to get core temps back down in between 'on set' times. And when you saw them just out of costume on a good hot summer day, they were absolutely DRENCHED in sweat. It's actually a pretty demanding job. And then there are the few crappy behaved kids that like to come up and kick them in the shins...sometimes ya gotta wonder. There is a PERSON in there, and they would never walk up and do that to an adult normally. I even saw a few of the characters take some minor retribution, and didn't blame them, but the corporation sure as heck would have. If you notice they always (at least did) have a handler with them to keep them safe.

Great observation/insight. When my son served in the Marines, they had training in the desert near Cali which was of course was very hot and of course they had to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. However, he did mention it was pretty cold in the early mornings and at night which I guess actually surprised me (guess I assumed desert environment are always hot regardless of time of day, but I guess I was wrong lol) enough where they did wear layers.

Wont you get heat exhaustion or the more severe heat/It gets easier to get it with less time spent in the heat. Because I'd had it so many times, because My tolerance for heat drops I literally cannot even do errands If it's hot out. I, will really anybody, can get it in a swimming pool because of the glare that comes off the water. When I lived in Arkansas 1 year from the middle of may to the middle of September I was inside the house for 23 1⁄2 hours a day Because I would drop that fast. Now I'm in San Diego so it's not hot But I live in a Trailer that just hold on to heat that I've gotten heat exhaustion inside my trailer. Fortunately I know how to handle this since I've Get it so often and because I worked in sports medicine and we had to really monitor the football players during Double days
