Very useful and I loved the intro. Another thing that would be useful to hear, is how to deal with different types of sand. The bunker you were in looked like nice dry fluffy sand, but many courses where I play the sand is more packed and almost a bit damp. How should we manage different types of sand? Thanks Chris!

Watched your video and followed your technique last week after ending up in a green-side trap! Had been struggling with bunkers taking too much sand in my weekly League. Made sure face open ~ 45 deg. prior to entering the trap, aligning myself to the flag and it came out easily within 10 feet of the flag! Had been using a more open stance with club sliding across the sand with mixed results. Focused on the visual of throwing a club face of sand onto the green, which helped greatly! Thanks Chris!!!

Thanks for the excellent video! Would you consider making a video on how to get out of bunkers with no loose sand in? The bunkers at my local club are virtually hard pan, so usual bunker technique is of limited use if one doesn't want fractured wrists. I'm talking particularly about green-side bunkers, so because of the lip there's no chance to pick it off and a proper bunker shot is essential.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ These videos are of the very highest quality Chris. We'll done. I think the humour is great and the use of "that wasn't me Chris" is fantastic as a visual aid. I find many pros explain what golfers do wrong and then provide solutions to correct this however your videos are showing us in advance the shots we often play and then showing us the solutions. Visual this will help alot of golfers massively. We need to see more of the average golfer Chris in future videos before Chris the pro steps in to provide solutions for golfers faults. Great video, educational, to the point and great humour between Chris and his golfing alter ego. 👏

Now seriously Chris. If I ever success in golf at any level, I can still say I am self taught. But if someone asks me who is your coach. I will if anything say Mr. Chris Ryan. I can barely afford playing on the course once a month. I don't only wish I could be a member and train every day. I'd also invest in your lessons day in and day out. Having you as a free coach is an utmost privilege to me. Let me pay you back somehow if you ever come to the Canary Islands, by taking care of you as much as I can. Muchas gracias. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

My bunker play (maybe the worst ever for a 13 hdcp) is easily responsible for 5-6 strokes a round. I'll be watching this video 3-4 times a day until I get it right.

Thank you for addressing so much of what can go wrong with bunker play. I would add one more thing to work on, which is practice making sand swings without the ball, with the goal being to consistently move the sand to the green. That will teach you the length of swing and speed you need to be successful, without worrying about skulling the ball or burying the club.

What about situations where the sand is hard-packed, like after a good rainstorm? You can hardly even see where you walked on it, and it is almost like hitting off of hardpan. Any difference in the technique?

Hi Chris Great video but I have a "bone" to pick with you as my mother would say to me on common mistake number one. I completely agree that one must open the club face to strike the ball with the sole of the club or the bounce. That is a key point to glide the club face through the sand and not dig in with the leading edge that your look alike was so adept at doing. BUT you do not lower the leading edge- not possible. What you do do is open the club face that raises the leading edge. The trailing edge remains where it was so the effect is that the trailing edge is lower than the leading edge. A key insight for the conceptualization of the bunker shot that has eluded (or deluded me) for many years. You raise the leading edge by opening the club face. The trailing edge remains where it was as you open the club face and raise the leading edge.

i was absolutely terrible out of the sand before practicing the tips in this video. after a couple of practice sessions i was not having any problems getting out of the bunker. i had to keep the club face square because i was making poor contact and it worked the best for me. even hit a great soft shot off the flag once. thank you for this video!

Thanks Chris. My problems begin when the sand is wet or there is not a lot of sand in the bunker. The club bottoms out on the hard ground under the sand and the club skips into the ball. Over the green it goes..

Instead of having to open the clubface excessively for bunker shots, why don’t manufacturers just make ‘sand ‘ irons for bunkers specifically already opened to the necessary degree .?
@ChrisRyanGolf Жыл бұрын
They do Patrick, not sure all of them do but TaylorMade made the Big foot wedge which works like this. The disadvantage is that it can be tricky to use from anywhere else other than the sand, but worth looking into

Ryan, I agree with all that you said. However, the bunkers at my home course are very hard, with heavy course sand. I open the club face and it literally bounces off the sand into the ball, sending it racing across the green. IF it comes out at all. Your thoughts?

Very nice. Really complete. I too learned to align far left until the club face was pointing at the target. Now if you could follow this up with playing different types of lies, that would be great.
@randyeaddy23733 жыл бұрын
Per usual, your explanations are insightful and spot on. 👏🏾👍🏾. Could you also address one threshold conceptual error I have had, which is about the bounce of the sand wedge. I worried that the bounce would prevent the club face from entering the sand at all, and would cause the club to slide along the top of the sand and blade the ball. And thoughts on how to dispel that erroneous fear of the bounce?

Excellent video Chris that has cleared up many of the issues I have with bunkers. It would be great if you could do a video on distances out of a bunker as this is an area I’m sure many golfers cannot get their head around. Or is it just me!!!!

Thanks Iain, distance control can be tricky, generally I just tend to use speed as the variable, you can also use entry point abs loft, but I find those a little harder to control
