Very helpful. I had been moving weight too much until seeing and understanding the pressure shift and slight heel lift trigger (both trail and lead foot). Worked on building the movements for a week, including two short range sessions. Played nine holes yesterday and experienced a real improvement in consistency of contact and dispersion. Thanks for the video.

For someone who’s overdone everything, this is fine tuning the zone of shift. I’ve done it all, but this explanation is so Good! Thank you so much! Do you have anything with long irons?
@alanunikel1414Ай бұрын
This may be the best single golf videoo EVER! It not only provides an excellent description of the mechanics of the set up, backswing, transition and downswing, but it provides a fantastic explanation of a major differences between irons and driver, the locations of center of mass, shaft angle at address and direction of force created by pushing off the lead foot into and through impact. And the explanation of the proper lifting and dropping of the lead foot is PURE GOLD! I have previously tried lifting and lowering my lead foot to get a bigger shoulder turn, but I now realize where and when to do it--lift it when you get to lead arm parallel in the backswing and drop it back to lead arm parallel in the transition. Once I started doing this, it made the sequencing of my swing extremely easy to do properly . Thank you, Chris Ryan, for a GEM of a video!🏌🏼✌️

Chris, I saw a video where Xander Schauffele was saying that the pressure increase should only be on the INSIDE edge of the back foot, because if it leaks to the outside you risk swaying and losing the torque build up. Do you agree?
@ChrisRyanGolf2 ай бұрын
Yeah I’d agree with that, usually this hip is inside of the foot so if that pressure shift to the outside it would suggest too much of a slide or sway

Chris I'm new to your channel and golf as a whole, i'm soaking up as much as I can. So the question is with driver as to the final push off does that lead to loss of distance or club speed moving back? People on the course always say to move forward in the finish. Just a newbie trying to figure this out. Thanks

That left foot coming off the ground just after impact reminds me of long drive champ Kyle Berkshire, who has ridiculous speed, obviously in his case he'd rip and tear numerous tendons, muscles in his left knee, ankle, foot, if that lead foot stayed planted to the ground. Yikes! AMG teaches this "recentering" of weight or pressure religiously. ..Nothing but good stuff here! Thanks.

The golf swing IS a shift of weight - from address to at least 80% of your weight on your right foot at the top of your backswing to at least 90% of your weight on your left foot at the finish of your swing. If you don't transfer any weight you're using only upper body which creates a LOT of torque, stress, and tension on your hips, knees, shoulders, and back. Who wants that for their student?
@ChrisRyanGolfАй бұрын
Hey Ron, not sure this is garbage, you do not move 80% of your weight to your trail side in the golf swing, you certainly could, but not what happens in the best swings. They see an increase of pressure under the trial side but that is very different to weight
@portaloocyprus2 ай бұрын
Easy, given tour level flexibility! I try to get to level arm position and it stops halfway...This fixes the feet AND the head, so the swing depends entirely on core flexibility, which most do not have...

If you are moving more pressure on to one side you are putting more weight on it at least on earth, but I get what you are saying though
@ChrisRyanGolf3 ай бұрын
Yeah it’s a different concept for sure, but you can have more pressure under one leg and your weight more over another, which I think is where some can get out of sync,

Yes good golfers move early and Fast but putting pressure down causes lateral and rotation but happens in milliseconds Sequencing is the secret But 99% of all great golfers learnt as weak kids! they had to do this!Most of us learnt as strong adults we use strong arms First in sequence other Terms that ruin most golf swings, ie all those over 7hcp 1 Dont Flip 2 Turn 3 Straight Left Arm 4 Lag 5 Connection

Well, weight transference should be of no consideration in the golf swing. And, the idea of recentering has to be one of the worst swing theories in the modern game. At the top of the backswing the upper part of the left leg should be at the same angle as the right leg. You will see this in Jones and Hogan's swing. The key to this is the rotation of the right leg in the backswing. The left side of the right leg pushes the body around just as it would if we were to turn to our right. The arc of this movement moves the weight around to the left side, at the top of the backswing, naturally. When the upper part of the left leg moves into a vertictal position, in the first part of the backswing, force is directed onto the left foot. This then will move the left knee further round to the right; and, form the angle of the upper part of the left leg. As a drill just simply hang your arms by your side and then push your body around with the left side of your right leg; and you will feel how the weight moves around naturally. But, also, as an additional drill, push back with with the lower left side of your neck, whilst your arms are hanging by your side; and, you will discover that this, also, turns your body all the way round.

Great! IF you like torsion and stress on your shoulders, back, hips and knees. Know anyone over 65 who can keep both feet flat on the ground and use only upper body to make a golf swing - comfortably? Want to swing with pain? Do this.
@ChrisRyanGolf2 ай бұрын
Hey Ron, I’m not sure that it’s possible to swing a club around your body without creating stress through those areas, it’s a sport and the nature of sports is that it will cause some amount of stress, not sure there is any technique that will eliminate that. I agree with regards to the feet, but not sure where in this video I suggested that you keep both on the ground?
@ronowens5042 ай бұрын
@@ChrisRyanGolf If you want to eliminate weight shift your feet stay on the ground. If your left heel comes off the ground as it did for Bobby Jones, Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Lee Trevino, etc. their is weight shift to the right foot on the backswing and back to the front foot on the forward swing. The golf swing is a weight shift - as exemplified by those mentioned above.
@ChrisRyanGolf2 ай бұрын
@ that’s not weight shift Ron, I’m pretty sure I can keep both feet planted and move my weight around, that’s easy to do. I can also keep me weight pretty centred and lift up a foot, that will cause my weight to move but it wasn’t the weight shift causing that. This is the whole point of the video, those golfers were shifting pressure but their body weight was staying fairly centred, the reasons for this video was because so many confuse the two.
@ronaldstark83422 ай бұрын
Yes, I raise my left foot a bit, but still do not sway. It just frees up my hip turn. I am 70 and cannot turn enough with my left foot kept on the ground. I get the pressure back to the inside of my right foot. No sway.

@@ChrisRyanGolfI just fear that so many golfers will see that and not get any transfer of weight/pressure and finish on there back foot instead of transferring weight / pressure onto lead side to a great turn and balanced finish on the posted left leg hips chest head facing the target. It is extremely misguiding Chris.
