JAB5625: You have absolutely no reason to call him a hypocrite. He didn't say he was picketing anyone; he only said he's a vegetarian. In any case, animals eat meat because they don't know any better. Humans can be better than that. Now this is all so extremely obvious and simple that I'm quite sure even you understood it perfectly well before I pointed it out, perfectly well before you posted your asinine comment. So who's the real hypocrite? YOU, pal, you. Check the mirror.

Practically all animals kill other animals for food and we also are animals. What's the difference.
@marianhalcombe33056 жыл бұрын
+PowerTuber 3.0 We're *self-aware* animals. As far as we know, we're the *only* self-aware animals. That's the difference. We have the power to analyze and go against instinct. Other animals (as far as we know) don't have that power. A lot of them don't value lives outside of their own families. They don't have empathy to the degree that we do. Slaughterhouses are awful places in which animals are essentially born to dle.They don't get lives. Most never see the sun. Pigs get their teeth, genitals, and tails ripped off so they don't destroy themselves when they inevitably go insane from months in a cage they can't even turn around in. Chickens are debeaked for the same reason and spend their days stuffed together in a dark, damp, ammonia ridden shed. That's not natural. Hunting is far more natural, but assuming you get your meat from the grocery store, these animals have been through hel*. Eating veg may not be normal, but you can't say it's amoral. By what means? Now, a veg may not be morally superior to a carnivore... but if animal abuse is considered amoral and can result in imprisonment, the statement that refusal to eat the animals (i.e. support a system of consistent animal cruelty) is a moral decision is justified.

Totally agree with you Chrissie, I have been a vegetarian since I was 15. I get so pissed off with people saying well "Are your shoes leather?" or other inane questions. The irony of me becoming a vegetarian was that my dad was a farmer. He was horrified that I stopped eating meat, I think he thought it was a phase, but I'm now 52 and it's been one hell of a long phase. And for me it is a deal breaker if I meet a guy, if he eats meat no chance.

I would quibble with her on one thing she said: "Everything that lives, lives off of something else that lives." ( 07:03 ) That is an argument made by meat-eaters to try to justify eating meat; the "you're killing the plants you're eating" shtick. But it simply isn't true: many foods that veg*ns eat _are not alive,_ such as fruits, seeds and grains. The plants and trees which produce them have evolved to make their fruits, seeds, nuts, etc., appealing to animals to be eaten -- often for seed dispersal. Papaya tress "want" their fruit to be eaten; they fall on the forest floor, and local frugivores come along and eat them, and poop the seeds a mile away. Nuts are not "living", neither are seeds. There is no detectible life within them (there only is with seeds, if the conditions are changed to cause them to sprout). So, no: NOT everything that lives, lives off of something else that lives. It is quite possible to live off of things that are no longer alive.
